Aston Villa v Arsenal
12.30pm GMT, Villa Park, Birmingham
Villa lost 3-1 at home to West Ham on Wednesday night and they’re in ninth place one point ahead of Arsenal going into this game, but they have games in hand on almost every other team. They hadn’t conceded a goal in three home games before losing to West Ham, but they have lost as many home games as they have won. They have only won twice in their last seven games, but they have a good run of games coming up.
Jack Grealish is the best of the Villa players for fantasy managers with Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Martinez and Matt Targett doing quite well too.
Arsenal lost 2-1 away to Wolves on Tuesday after leading 1-0 and they had two players sent off which leaves them a point behind Villa. They had won three away games in a row before losing to Wolves and they scored eight goals in those victories while only conceding one. They have taken 16 points from their last eight games and they kept five clean sheets in those games.
Arsenal’s defenders have done very well recently for fantasy managers while Bukayo Saka is well worth a look too.
I think Arsenal will get back on track after their midweek loss with a narrow victory in this game.
Prediction: 1-2
Burnley v Brighton And Hove Albion
3pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley
Burnley lost 2-0 at home to City in midweek and they’re only one place above the bottom three, but crucially that place gives them an eight point buffer. They have lost two of their last three home games with only West Brom and Fulham scoring less goals at home. They have lost four of their last six games and they failed to score in each of those defeats with no other team scoring less goals.
Nick Pope is still the only Burnley player I can see making an impression for fantasy managers.
Brighton had a fantastic 1-0 away to Liverpool on Wednesday night to move 10 points clear of the relegation zone. They won their last home game against Spurs and it was their first home win of the season with no other team drawing more games on their own patch. They have taken 10 points from their last four games and they didn’t concede any goals in those games with no other team drawing more games.
Brighton’s defenders and keeper are looking pretty good for fantasy managers at the moment.
I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Brighton take the three points with the only goss of the game.
Prediction: 0-1
Newcastle United v Southampton
3pm GMT, St. James’s Park, Newcastle
Newcastle led 1-0 at home to Palace on Tuesday, but they lost 2-1 to drop to two places and eight points above the bottom three. They haven’t won in five home games and they have lost their last three with only West Brom conceding more goals on their own ground. They have only taken five points from their last 11 games with only West Brom and Crystal Palace conceding more goals.
Callum Wilson is the only Newcastle player for fantasy managers to even consider at the moment.
Nine man Southampton were absolutely thrashed away to United on Tuesday night and they fell to 12th place on goal difference as a result. They have only taken two points from their last four away games with no other team conceding more goals on the road. They have only taken six points from their last nine games and they failed to score in six of those games.
After their midweek defeat I’m not sure Southampton players are the best bet for fantasy managers, but Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse could do well in this game.
Despite their disaster against United I think Southampton might just get the better of Newcastle.
Prediction: 1-2
Fulham v West Ham United
5.30pm GMT, Craven Cottage, London
Fulham lost 2-0 at home to Leicester on Wednesday night and the gap between them and 17th place is now eight points. They haven’t won in their last seven home games and no other team has taken less points or scored less goals at home. They haven’t won in 11 games, but they drew seven of those games with only Brighton have drawn more games.
I can’t see any Fulham players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
West Ham won 3-1 away to Villa on Wednesday night and they’re now only two points off fourth place. They have won their last three away games and only four other teams have taken more points away from home. They have won five of their last six games and they play two of the bottom three in their next two games.
Tomas Soucek, Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell are all doing really well for fantasy managers while Jesse Lingard might just be an option too after his midweek performance.
I think West Ham will continue their fine form with a win by a couple of goals in this game.
Prediction: 0-2
Manchester United v Everton
8pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester
United strolled to a 9-0 victory at home to nine man Southampton on Tuesday, but they’re still three points behind City at the top of the table and they’ve played a game more. They have won four of their last five home games and they scored 19 goals in those games with no other team scoring more goals at home. They have only lost once in their last 16 games and no other team has scored more goals.
Bruno Fernandes is still the best of the United players for fantasy managers while Marcus Rashford is a good choice and United’s defenders have impressed recently too.
Everton won 2-1 away to Leeds in midweek and they’re still only four points off the top four. They have taken 16 points from their last six away games with only two other teams taking more points points on their travels. They have taken 19 from their last nine games, but they play four of the “big six’ in their next six games.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks like he might be finding some form again for fantasy managers while Lucas Digne could be worth a shout too.
I think this will be a very close game, but the chances are United will win narrowly.
Prediction: 2-1
Sunday February 7
Tottenham Hotspur v West Bromwich Albion
12pm GMT, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London
Spurs lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea on Thursday night and they’re now down to seventh place with teams closing quickly behind them. They have only won once in their last five home games and they have lost as many games as they have won at home. They have only won twice in their last 10 games and they only kept one clean sheet in those games.
Being-Min Son is the only Spurs player to consider while Harry Kane is injured, but he hasn’t done too much recently.
West Brom led away to Sheffield United on Tuesday, but they ended up losing 2-1 and they’re now 10 points off the safety of 17th place. They have only won once in their 11 away games with no other team conceding more goals away from home. They have lost eight of their last 12 games and no other team has conceded more goals.
Matheus Pereira is the only West Brom player making an impact for fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Spurs should get a much needed win in this game with a couple of goals to spare.
Prediction: 3-1
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Leicester City
2pm GMT, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton
Wolves came from behind to win 2-1 at home to nine man Arsenal on Tuesday night to put an end to a bad run of results and leave themselves comfortably in mid-table. The win against Arsenal was their first home win in four games and they have lost as many games as they have won at home. The midweek win was their first win in nine games and they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 15 games.
I’m not sure there are any Wolves players making enough of an impression at the moment to interest fantasy managers.
Leicester won 2-0 away to Fulham in midweek to move ahead of Liverpool into third place. They haven’t lost in their last six away games with only United taking more points and scoring more goals on the road. They have only lost once in their last nine games and they kept four clean sheets in those games with only United and Liverpool scoring more goals.
James Maddison and James Justin are the must have Leicester players for fantasy managers at the moment while Harvey Barnes is worth considering too.
I think Leicester’s away form should be enough to see them take the three points in this game.
Prediction: 0-2
Liverpool v Manchester City
4.30pm GMT, Anfield, Liverpool
Liverpool lost 1-0 at home to Brighton on Wednesday night and they’re now seven points behind City at the top of the table and they’ve played a game more. They haven’t won in their last four home games and they haven’t scored in the last three, but only City have taken more points at home. They have only won twice in their last eight games and they failed to score in five of those games, but only United have scored more goals.
Mohamed Salah is still the best of the Liverpool players for fantasy managers, but he might not do so well in this game.
City won 2-0 away to Burnley in midweek and their current run is making it difficult for the chasing pack to keep pace with them at the top of the table. They have won their last four away games and they have kept clean sheets in four of their last five games on the road with no other team conceding less goals away goals.
City’s defenders and keeper are doing magnificently for fantasy managers at the moment while Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan are worth considering too.
I think this will be a very close game and the chances are it will end all square.
Prediction: 0-0
Sheffield United v Chelsea
7:15pm GMT, Bramall Lane, Sheffield
United came from behind to win 2-1 at home to fellow strugglers West Brom in midweek and they’re now only one point behind them at the foot of the table. They have won two of their last three home games, but only two other teams have scored less goals at home. They have taken nine points from their last five games, but only Burnley have scored less goals.
Despite their recent recovery I still can’t see any United players to recommend to fantasy managers.
Chelsea won 1-0 to Spurs on Thursday night to climb back up to sixth place and they’re only four points off the top four. They have won two of their last three away games and they kept clean sheets in both of those games. They have taken seven points from their three games under their new manager and they didn’t concede any goals in those games.
Chelsea’s defenders and keeper are all looking pretty good to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Chelsea’s recovery will continue as they take the three points in this game.
Prediction: 0-2
Monday February 8
Leeds United v Crystal Palace
8pm GMT, Elland Road, Leeds
Leeds lost 2-1 at home to Everton in midweek, but they’re still only two points off the top half of the table. They have lost five of their last eight home games and only four other teams have conceded more goals at home. They have won six and lost six of their last 12 games and no other team has drawn less games with only West Brom conceding more goals.
Patrick Bamford has been the best of the Leeds players for fantasy managers with Stuart Dallas and Jack Harrison looking fairly good too.
Palace came from behind to win 2-1 away to Newcastle on Tuesday night and they’re only behind Leeds on goal difference going into this game. The win at Newcastle was their first away win in five games and only three other teams have conceded more goals away from home. They have only lost two of their last seven games, but only two other teams have conceded more goals.
With Wilfried Zaha injured it looks like Eberechi Eze is the Palace player most likely to perform for fantasy managers.
I think Leeds might just be good enough to win this game by the narrowest of margins.
Prediction: 2-1
That’s it for this week.
