Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Nine

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did very well last time out with two perfect predictions, five correct outcomes and three incorrect outcomes to leave me in fourth place in my predictions league, but I have moved a lot closer to the leader. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

I didn’t do too well with my fantasy team in the last gameweek and I ended up losing some of the ground I had made up recently, but I’m still in my second highest overall position so far this season. My choice of Erling Haaland didn’t work out with City failing to score against Arsenal, but as an Arsenal fan it was a hit I was happy to take. I’m sticking with him again this week with a home game against a Brighton team who can beat anyone, but they can’t keep a clean sheet. Other captaincy options this week are Son Heung-Min and Mohammed Salah who both have favourable fixtures.

The only players who did anything for me last week were Kieran Trippier, Joachim Andersen and James Maddison and I’m hoping for a much better return this week. I need to find a way to bring Ollie Watkins into my team after sticking with him for the first four weeks of the season only to see him burst into life as soon as I sold him. Pedro Neto will probably end up in my team very soon with an Arsenal defender a possibility too.

Saturday 21 October

Liverpool v Everton

12.30pm BST, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool drew 2-2 away to Brighton in their last game to leave them in fourth place in the league. They have won their three home games and only City have conceded less goals on their own ground. They have only taken one point from their last two games and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in four games, but they should put that to rights in this game.

Mohamed Salah is the Liverpool player to have for fantasy managers, but none of the other Liverpool players are doing an awful lot at the moment.

Everton won 3-0 at home to Bournemouth last time out to move themselves three points clear of the relegation zone. They have only lost one of their three away games, but the chances are it will become two after this game. They have won two of their last three games and they scored seven goals in those games, but they have a tough run of games coming up.

Abdoulaye Doucoure is the only Everton player for fantasy managers to even consider at the moment.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Liverpool victory in this game.

Prediction: 3-0

Bournemouth v Wolverhampton Wanderers

3pm BST, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth

Bournemouth lost 3-0 away to Everton in their last game and they’re one of only two teams without a win to their name. They have taken two of their three points at home, but no other team has scored less goals on their own patch. They have lost their last three games and they have only scored one goal in their last four with no other team scoring less goals.

Dominic Solanke is the Bournemouth player most likely to return points for fantasy managers.

Wolves drew 1-1 at home to Villa last time out and they’re now four points above the bottom three. They have taken four points from their last three away games, but their next three on the road are all games they can win starting with this one. They have taken five points from their last three games and this game gives them the opportunity to move into the middle of the table.

Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-Chan are both in very good form for fantasy managers at the moment and they’re available at great prices too.

I think this will be a close game with Wolves more than likely taking all three points.

Prediction: 1-2

Brentford v Burnley

3pm BST, Gtech Community Stadium, London

Brentford conceded two added time goals to lose 2-1 away to United in their last game and they’re now only three points and three places above the relegation zone. They haven’t won a home game yet, but no other team has drawn more games on their own ground. They haven’t won in six games, but no other team in the bottom half of the table has scored more goals.

Mathias Jensen is the Brentford player who has impressed the most for fantasy managers.

Burnley lost 4-1 at home to Chelsea last time out and they’re still in the bottom three, but they’re only three points behind Brentford going into this game. They have taken all of their points so far on their travels with only Arsenal conceding less goals away from home. They have a fairly good run of fixtures coming up, but only Sheffield United have conceded more goals.

Lyle Foster is the Burnley player who can do well for fantasy managers and he doesn’t cost the earth either.

I think Brentford will get a much needed win in this game, but it won’t be easy for them.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester City v Brighton And Hove Albion

3pm BST, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City lost 1-0 away to Arsenal in their last game to lose their place at the top of the table and drop to third. They have won all of their home games so far and no other team has conceded less goals on their own patch. They have lost their last two games and they only scored one goal in those games.

Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden are all very good choices for fantasy managers while City’s defenders and keeper are very good at home in particular too.

Brighton drew 2-2 at home to Liverpool last time out and they’re only two points behind City going into this game. They have won two of their three away games, but only four other teams have conceded more goals on the road. They haven’t kept a clean sheet so far, but no other team has scored more goals with only the bottom three conceding more.

Kaoru Mitoma and Solly March are the Brighton players who can do best for fantasy managers.

I think City will bounce back from their successive defeats to take all the points in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Newcastle United v Crystal Palace

3pm BST, St. James’ Park, Newcastle

Newcastle drew 2-2 away to West Ham in their last game to leave them in eighth place. They have won three of their four home games and they kept clean sheets in the last two. They have taken 10 points and scored 13 goals in their last four games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games too.

Kieran Trippier is the Newcastle player to have for fantasy managers while Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak are doing very well too.

Palace drew 0-0 at home to Forest last time out and that point was enough to keep them in the top half of the table. They have only lost one of their four away games with only Arsenal conceding less goals on their travels. They haven’t lost in six games and they haven’t conceded a goal in three with only City and Arsenal conceding less goals.

Joachim Andersen is a very good choice for fantasy managers at the moment with most of the Palace defenders and keeper worth considering too.

I think Newcastle will continue to climb the table by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-1

Nottingham Forest v Luton Town

3pm BST, City Ground, Nottingham

Forest drew 0-0 away to Palace in their last game and they’re still a healthy five points above the bottom three. They’re still unbeaten at home, but they have drawn two of their three games. They have only lost one of their last five games and they only conceded four goals in those games, but they’re not scoring too many goals.

I still think Morgan Gibbs-White will have a very good season for fantasy managers, but he needs to start scoring more points very soon.

Luton lost 1-0 at home to Spurs in their last game despite playing against 10 men for more than half of the game. Their only win so far came on the road, but only Bournemouth and Villa have conceded more away goals. They have taken four points from their last four games after losing their previous four, but only Bournemouth have scored less goals and only four other teams have conceded less.

Carlton Morris is the only Luton player for fantasy managers to even consider.

I think Forest should be good enough to take the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-0

Chelsea v Arsenal

5.30pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea won 4-1 away to Burnley in their last game to make it two wins in a row and leave them within a point of the top half of the table. They have only won once in their four home games with only three other teams scoring less goals on their own patch. They have won their last two games after only winning once in their first six with only Arsenal and City conceding less goals.

Raheem Sterling is probably the best bet in the Chelsea team for fantasy managers while their keeper and defenders are worth considering too.

Arsenal won 1-0 at home to City last time out to move up to second in the table and they’re one of two teams still unbeaten. They’re the only team with a 100% record away from home and they haven’t conceded a goal on their travels either. They’re only behind Spurs on goals scored at the top of the table and no other team has conceded less goals.

Once he’s fit to play Bukayo Saka is Arsenal’s best player for fantasy managers with Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli good options too.

I think this will be a close game with Arsenal more than likely emerging victorious.

Prediction: 1-2

Sheffield United v Manchester United

8pm BST, Bramall Lane, Sheffield

United lost 3-1 away to Fulham last time out to leave them at the foot of the table with only one point from eight games. Their only point so far has come at home and only Burnley have conceded more goals on their own ground. They have lost seven of their eight games and they’re one of only two teams who haven’t won a game yet with no other team conceding more goals.

I can’t see any United players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

United scored two very late goals to win 2-1 at home to Brentford in their last game and that win kept them in the top half of the table. They have lost two of their three away games and no other team has scored less goals on their travels. They have lost half of their games, but they have a very good run of games coming up starting with this one.

Despite not doing too well so far Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund must all come good soon for fantasy managers surely.

I think Manchester United should be good enough to take the three points in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Sunday October 22

Aston Villa v West Ham United

4.30pm BST, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa drew 1-1 away to Wolves last time out and they’re still only one point off the top four. They have won all three of their home games and no other team has scored more goals on their own patch. They have taken 10 points and scored 11 goals in their last four games with only Brighton and Newcastle scoring more goals.

Ollie Watkins is the Villa player of choice for fantasy managers with Matty Cash, Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby and Douglas Luis all worth a shout too.

West Ham drew 2-2 at home to Newcastle in their last game and they’re only two points and two places behind Villa going into this game. They lost their last away game against Liverpool after taking seven points from the previous three. They have only won once in their last four games, but they have a favourable run of fixtures after this one.

Jarrod Bowen is in very good form for fantasy managers while James Ward-Prowse, Vladimir Coufal and Alphonse Areola are all possibilities too.

I think West Ham will make a game of it, but home advantage should help Villa to win.

Prediction: 2-1

Monday October 23

Tottenham Hotspur v Fulham

8pm BST, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Spurs won 1-0 away to Luton last time despite being reduced to 10 men and that victory put them on top of the table on goals scored ahead of Arsenal. They have won all three of their home games with only City conceding less goals on their own ground. With Arsenal playing away to Chelsea they should be able to remain on top of the table with a win in this game.

Son Heung-Min and James Maddison are the best of the Spurs players for fantasy managers while their defenders and keeper are doing pretty well too.

Fulham won 3-1 at home to Sheffield United in their last game and they’re only one point off the top half of the table. They have only lost one of their four away games and that was against last season’s champions, but no other team has drawn more games on the road. Their three wins have all come against teams in the bottom five, but they will avoid the relegation zone if the continue to beat the teams most likely to go down.

Bernd Leno is the Fulham player who has impressed the most for fantasy managers so far.

I think Spurs will keep their place at the top of the table by winning this game with at least a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 3-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
