My choice of Erling Haaland as my captain paid off last week and I used my last chip to make him my triple captain too. Otherwise Pervis Estupinan, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Marcus Rashford, Mohamed Salah and Jack Grealish all added points to my total as I gained more ground for the eighth time in the last nine weeks. I might not have a chance of matching my overall rank from last season, but at least I’m moving closer to a respectable finish.
Haaland has to be my captain again this week with a home game against Leeds while some of the Brighton players could be options too. I think I’ll save my transfer this week so I can use two next week as I look to bring in some of the players with an extra game.
Saturday May 6
Bournemouth v Chelsea
3pm BST, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth
Bournemouth won 4-1 at home to Leeds last week and they are now safe in the Premier League for another season. They have won three of their last five home games, but only Leeds and Southampton have conceded more goals on their own ground. They have won four of their last five games and they will move above Chelsea if they win this game.
Both Philip Billing and Dominic Solanke have done very well for fantasy managers and they can continue that over the last few weeks of the season.
Chelsea lost 3-1 away to Arsenal on Tuesday night and they’re only ahead of Bournemouth on goal difference going into this game. They have only won once in their last 11 away games and they still have to travel to both Manchester teams. They have lost their last four games and they have only scored two goals in their last six with only four other teams scoring less goals.
It’s difficult to see any Chelsea players who can perform for fantasy managers at the moment.
This isn’t an easy game to predict, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bournemouth take the three points.
Prediction: 2-1
Manchester City v Leeds United
3pm BST, Etihad Stadium, Manchester
City won 2-1 away to Fulham and 3-0 at home to West Ham last week and those six points moved them to the top of the table. They have won their last eight home games and they scored 26 goals in those games with no other team taking more points or scoring more goals on their own patch. They have won their last nine games and they scored 27 goals in those games with no other team scoring more goals and only Newcastle conceding less.
Erling Haaland is the must have City player for fantasy managers, but any of their players could do very well in this game.
Leeds lost 4-1 away to Bournemouth last week and that defeat cost them their second manager of the season with Sam Allardyce stepping in to try to keep them up. They have lost their last three away games and they conceded 10 goals in those games with only Forest and Bournemouth conceding more goals on the road. They have only taken one point from their last five games and they conceded 18 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals.
I can’t see any Leeds players to recommend to fantasy managers in this game in particular.
I can’t see anything other than a comprehensive City victory in this game.
Prediction: 5-0
Tottenham Hotspur v Crystal Palace
3pm BST, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London
Spurs lost 4-3 away to Liverpool last week and their chances of a top four finish are gone. They have only taken one point from their last two home games after winning the previous five and only three other teams have scored more goals at home. They have only taken one point from their last four games and they conceded 15 goals in those games with only five other teams conceding more goals.
Harry Kane remains the only Spurs player for fantasy managers to include in their teams.
Palace won 4-3 at home to West Ham last week to move into 11th place and keep their slight hopes of a top half finish alive. They lost their last away game after winning the previous two and they only have one away game left after this one. They have taken 13 points from their last six games and they scored 13 goals in those games, but only five other teams have scored less goals.
Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze are both worth considering for fantasy managers while Wilfried Zaha is a possibility too now that he’s back from injury.
I think Palace might be able to grab a share of the spoils in this game.
Prediction: 1-1
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Aston Villa
3pm BST, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton
Wolves lost 6-0 away to Brighton last week, but they should have enough points already to stay out of the relegation battle. They have won four of their last five home games and they kept clean sheets in each of those wins, but only Everton and Southampton have scored less goals on their own ground. They have lost two of their last three games, but they will want to get something from this local derby.
I don’t think there are any Wolves players to interest fantasy managers at the moment.
Villa lost 1-0 away to United last week and that defeat ended their slight hopes of finishing in the top four. They have taken 11 points from their last six away games, but no other team in the top half of the table has scored less goals on their travels. The defeat against United was their first defeat in 11 games and they have a tough run of games to finish the season after this one.
Ollie Watkins is the Villa player who can make a difference for fantasy managers while Emiliano Buendia, Emiliano Martinez and Tyrone Mings are good options too.
I think Villa will bounce back from their disappointment last week to take the three points in this game.
Prediction: 1-2
Liverpool v Brentford
5.30pm BST, Anfield, Liverpool
Liverpool won 4-3 at home to Spurs and 1-0 at home to Fulham last week and they haven’t quite given up on finishing in the top four yet. They have taken 26 points from their last 10 home games with only the top two scoring more goals on their own ground. They have won their last five games and they scored 16 goals in those games with only the top two scoring more goals.
Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the Liverpool players who fantasy managers need to have at the moment.
Brentford won 2-1 at home to Forest last week and they can still finish as high as sixth. They won their last away game after falling to win the previous three and no other team has drawn more games on the road. They have won their last two games after failing to win the previous six and no other team has drawn more games.
Ivan Toney is the Brentford player most likely to return points for fantasy managers with David Raya a good choice too.
I think Brentford will give Liverpool a tough time, but the chances are the home team will prevail.
Prediction: 2-1
Sunday May 7
Newcastle United v Arsenal
4.30pm BST, St. James’ Park, Newcastle
Newcastle won 3-1 at home to Southampton last week and they’re very close to guaranteeing themselves a top four place. They have won their last four home games and they scored 13 goals in those games with only United conceding less goals on their own ground. They have won nine of their last 10 games and they scored 26 goals in those games with no other team conceding less goals.
Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak are the Newcastle players for fantasy managers to look to while Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock and Joelinton have looked good recently too.
Arsenal won 3-1 at home to Chelsea on Tuesday night to keep their title hopes just about alive, but they need to win all of their remaining games and hope City slip up twice. They lost their last away game at City, but no other team has won more games, taken more points or scored more goals away from home. The win against Chelsea was their first win in five games with only City scoring more goals.
Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus are all doing very well for fantasy managers.
I want nothing more than an Arsenal victory in this game, but I think Newcastle will take the three points.
Prediction: 3-1
West Ham United v Manchester United
7pm BST, London Stadium, London
West Ham lost 4-3 away to Palace and 3-0 away to City last week and they still haven’t got enough points to keep their Premier League place for next season. They have only taken one point from their last three home games and they conceded nine goals in those games. They have lost their last three games and they desperately need one more win to ensure their survival while they try to concentrate on their upcoming Europa Conference League semi final.
Michail Antonio has looked good recently for fantasy managers and Jarrod Bowen is a possibility too.
United won 1-0 at home to Villa and lost 1-0 away to Brighton last week and they’re just starting to look over their shoulders in the fight for a top four finish. They have only won once in their last five away games and they failed to score in three of those games. They have taken 13 points from their last six games and they kept clean sheets in four of those games
Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw are the United players to own for fantasy managers.
I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.
Prediction: 1-1
Monday May 8
Fulham v Leicester City
2pm BST, Craven Cottage, London
Fulham lost 2-1 at home to City and 1-0 away to Liverpool last week, but they’re still looking pretty good to finish in the top half of the table. They have lost three of their last four home games, but they have two good home fixtures remaining. They have lost their last three games and they only scored one goal in those games with only one other team in the top half of the table conceding more goals.
Andreas Pereira is probably the Fulham player most likely to do well for fantasy managers in this game.
Leicester drew 2-2 at home to Everton last week and that point was enough to move them out of the bottom three on goal difference. They have only taken two points from their last six away games with only two other teams conceding more goals on their travels. They have taken five points from their last four games after only taking one in the previous nine and no other team in the bottom half of the table has scored more goals.
James Maddison is the best of the Leicester players for fantasy managers while Jamie Vardy has done well in recent weeks too.
I think Fulham will pile more pressure on Leicester by taking all the points in this game.
Prediction: 2-1
Brighton And Hove Albion v Everton
5.30pm BST, AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Brighton won 6-0 at home to Wolves and 1-0 at home to United last week and they still have an outside chance of finishing in the top four. They have taken 13 points from their last five home games and they scored 15 goals in those games. They have taken 20 points from their last 10 games and they kept clean sheets in half of them.
Pervis Estupinan, Solly March, Kaoru Mitoma and Alexis MacAllister are the Brighton players who can do well for fantasy managers over the next few weeks.
Everton drew 2-2 away to Leicester last week and that result meant they stayed in the relegation zone with games running out quickly. They haven’t won in their last 12 away games, but they drew half of them and they failed to score in nine of them. They haven’t won in seven games and no other team has scored less goals.
I can’t see any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Brighton will continue their impressive form with a few goals to spare in this game.
Prediction: 3-0
Nottingham Forest v Southampton
8pm BST, City Ground, Nottingham
Forest lost 2-1 away to Brentford last week and that defeat saw them drop back into the relegation zone on goal difference. They won their last home game after falling to win the previous five, but it’s only their home results which are giving them a chance of staying up. They have only won once in their last 13 games with only Leeds and Bournemouth conceding more goals.
Morgan Gibbs-White is the Forest player for fantasy managers to own at the moment.
Southampton lost 3-1 away to Newcastle last week and they need to win all four of their remaining games to have any hope of staying up. They have only taken two points from their last five away games, but they have actually taken more points on the road than at home. They have only taken three points from their last nine games and they failed to score in five of them with only Everton scoring less goals.
I can’t see any Southampton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Forest will give their chances of staying up a real boost by taking all the points in this relegation six pointer.
Prediction: 2-1
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
