I did alright with my fantasy team last week thanks mainly to my choice of Erling Haaland as my captain and I lost a very small amount of ground overall for the first time in eight weeks. Unfortunately I got some of my choices wrong and left too many points on my bench with just David Raya and Harry Kane getting points for me besides Haaland.
Haaland is going to be my captain again this week and as it stands I’m going to use my triple captain chip on him which is the last chip I have. I’ll be taking a hit to bring in Mohamed Salah, Marcus Rashford and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but with two free transfers this week I think it’s worth the risk as they all play twice.
Saturday April 29
Crystal Palace v West Ham United
12.30pm BST, Selhurst Park, London
Palace lost 2-0 away to Wolves on Tuesday night, but they’re still eight points clear of the bottom three and their relegation worries must be gone. They have taken four points from their last two home games after failing to win the previous seven and no other team has scored less goals on their own patch. They had taken 10 points from four games before losing to Wolves and they have a good run of games to finish their season.
Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise are the Palace players who have impressed recently for fantasy managers while Sam Johnstone hasn’t done too badly either.
West Ham lost 2-1 at home to Liverpool on Wednesday night and they haven’t quite escaped from the relegation dogfight yet as they’re only five points above the bottom three. They have won their last two away games without conceding a goal, but Forest are the only team to have scored less goals on the road. They have taken 10 points from their last six games and they will probably be safe for another season if they can win this game.
Jarrod Bowen is still the West Ham player most likely to perform for fantasy managers while Michail Antonio has done well recently and they play twice this week.
I don’t think there will be too much between these two teams and the chances are the game will end in a draw.
Prediction: 1-1
Brentford v Nottingham Forest
3pm BST, Vtech Community Stadium, London
Brentford won 2-0 away to Chelsea on Wednesday night and they moved up to ninth place with a top half finish now almost guaranteed. They haven’t won in their last three home games and no other team has drawn more games on their own ground. They have taken four points from their last two games after losing the previous three and they have a very tough run of games after this one.
Ivan Toney and David Raya are the best of the Brentford players for fantasy managers with Bryan Mbeumo and Ben Mee looking good recently too.
Forest won 3-1 at home to Brighton on Wednesday night and that win was enough to move them one point clear of the relegation zone. They have lost their last six away games and no other team has taken less points or scored less goals on their travels. The win against Brighton was their first win in 12 games with only Leeds and Bournemouth conceding more goals.
I can’t see any Forest players to recommend to fantasy managers in this game, but Morgan Gibbs-White is their player to have when they play at home.
I think Brentford should make it back to back wins with a couple of goals to spare in this game.
Prediction: 2-0
Brighton And Hove Albion v Wolverhampton Wanderers
3pm BST, AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Brighton lost 3-1 away to Forest on Wednesday night and they need to get something from this game to keep their hopes of European football for next season alive. They have taken seven points from their last three home games, but their last four games were all away from home. With three home games in the next 10 days Brighton will hope to make up some ground on the teams ahead of them.
Solly March, Kaoru Mitoma, Pervis Estupinan and Alexis MacAllister are all doing very well for fantasy managers and they have a lot of games left to play starting with two this week.
Wolves won 2-0 at home to Palace on Tuesday night and they are as good as safe from relegation with an eight point advantage over the bottom three. They have only taken two points from their last five away games and only two other teams have scored less away goals. They have won three of their last four games, but those wins were all at home and only the bottom two have scored less goals.
The Wolves defenders and keeper have done well recently for fantasy managers, but only in their home games.
I think Brighton should get over their FA Cup hangover to take the three points in this game.
Prediction: 2-1
Sunday April 30
Bournemouth v Leeds United
2pm BST, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth
Bournemouth won 1-0 away to Southampton on Thursday night and they’re looking very likely to stay up now with a seven point gap to the relegation zone. They have lost their last two home games without scoring and only Palace have scored less goals on their own patch. They have taken 15 points from their last eight games and three more points should be enough to keep them up.
Dominic Solanke and Philip Billing are the Bournemouth players who can do well for fantasy managers and this could be a good game for them.
Leeds drew 1-1 at home to Leicester on Tuesday night and they’re only one point above the relegation zone going into this game. They have lost their last three away games with only Forest taking less points on the road. They have only taken one point from their last four games and they conceded 14 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals.
I’m not sure there are any Leeds players showing enough consistency to interest fantasy managers at the moment, but Jack Harrison could be the only exception.
This is a game which could go either way and I think it might just end with the spoils shared.
Prediction: 1-1
Fulham v Manchester City
2pm BST, Craven Cottage, London
Fulham lost 1-0 away to Villa on Tuesday night to drop to tenth place, but they’re still looking good to finish in the top half of the table. They won their last home game after falling to win the previous three and no other team in the top half of the table has conceded more goals on their own ground. They have lost five of their last seven games and they will do very well to get anything from their two games this week.
Andreas Pereira is the Fulham player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment and they play twice this week, but they are two very tough games.
City won 4-1 at home to Arsenal on Wednesday night to move within two points of them at the top of the table and they have two games in hand. They have won their last three away games with no other team conceding less goals on the road. They have won their last seven games and they scored 22 goals in those games with no other team scoring more goals and only Newcastle conceding less.
With two games this week Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne are the in form City players for fantasy managers with Jack Grealish doing pretty well too.
I can’t see anything other than a comfortable City victory in this game.
Prediction: 1-3
Manchester United v Aston Villa
2pm BST, Old Trafford, Manchester
United drew 2-2 away to Spurs on Thursday night after leading 2-0, but they’re still in a very strong position to finish in the top four. They have taken 10 points from their last four home games and they kept clean sheets in each of those games with no other team conceding less goals on their own ground. They have taken 10 points from their last four games and they kept clean sheets in three of them.
With two games this week Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw are all very good options for fantasy managers.
Villa won 1-0 at home to Fulham on Tuesday night and they’re six points behind United going into this game. They have taken 11 points from their last five away games, but they have to travel to both United and Liverpool before the season ends. They have taken 26 points from their last 10 games and they kept clean sheets in seven of those games.
Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Buendia, Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Martinez are the Villa players who can bring joy to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Villa get a draw.
Prediction: 1-1
Newcastle United v Southampton
2pm BST, St. James’ Park, Newcastle
Newcastle won 4-1 away to Everton on Thursday night and they’re looking almost certain to finish in the top four. They have won their last three home games and they scored 10 goals in those games with only United conceding less goals on their own patch. They have won seven of their last eight games and they scored 23 goals in those games with no other team conceding less goals.
Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson and Joe Willock are all doing very well for fantasy managers at the moment.
Southampton lost 1-0 at home to Bournemouth on Thursday night and they’re now six points from safety with only five games left to play. They have taken five points from their last four away games, but it’s their home form which is going to see them get relegated. They have only taken three points from their last eight games and they failed to score in five of those games with only Everton scoring less goals.
I can’t see any Southampton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Newcastle will continue their march towards next season’s Champions League with another victory in this game.
Prediction: 3-0
Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur
4.30pm BST, Anfield, Liverpool
Liverpool won 2-1 away to West Ham on Wednesday night to keep their slim hopes of a top four finish alive. They have taken 20 points from their last eight home games with only the top two scoring more goals at home. They have won their last three home games and they scored 11 goals in those games and they have a very good run of games to finish the season.
With two games this week Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota (if he’s fit to play) are looking very good for fantasy managers.
Spurs drew 2-2 at home to United on Thursday night to stay in fifth place, but their chances of a top four finish are fading fast. They have only taken two points from their last five away games and they conceded 15 goals in those games with no other team in the top half of the table conceding more goals on the road. They have only won once in their last six games and only five other teams have conceded more goals.
Harry Kane is still the only Spurs player of interest to fantasy managers.
I think Liverpool will keep their top four hopes alive with a few goals to spare in this game.
Prediction: 4-1
Monday May 1
Leicester City v Everton
8pm BST, King Power Stadium, Leicester
Leicester drew 1-1 away to Leeds on Tuesday night, but that point wasn’t enough to get them out of the relegation zone. They won their last home game after losing the previous four with only Southampton taking less points on their own patch and this is an absolute must win game for them. They have taken four points from their last two games after only taking one in the previous nine, but no other team in the bottom half of the table has scored more goals.
James Maddison is the Leicester player who can do very well for fantasy managers if Leicester are going to manage to stay up.
Everton lost 4-1 at home to Newcastle on Thursday night and their chances of staying up seem to be fading with each game. They haven’t won in their last 12 away games and they failed to score in nine of them with only Forest scoring less goals on their travels. They have only taken three points from their last six games and they conceded 12 goals in those games with no other team scoring less goals.
I can’t see any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
This is a huge game for two teams in the bottom three and I think Leicester will emerge with all three points.
Prediction: 2-1
Tuesday May 2
Arsenal v Chelsea
8pm BST, Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal lost 4-1 away to City on Wednesday night and the chances are they will have been knocked off the top of the table by City before this game. They drew their last home game after winning the previous four and they scored 18 goals in those games with only City scoring more goals on their own ground. They have only taken three points from their last four games and they conceded 11 goals in those games with their chances of winning the title fading fast.
Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard are the Arsenal players who could do well for fantasy managers in this game.
Chelsea lost 2-0 at home to Brentford on Wednesday night and it’s looking like they won’t even finish in the top half of the table never mind the top four. They have only won once in their last 10 away games and they failed to score in five of those games. They have only taken two points from their last six games and they failed to score in four of those games with only four other teams scoring less goals.
I can’t see any Chelsea players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Arsenal will get a badly needed win in this game, but only just.
Prediction: 2-1
Wednesday May 3
Liverpool v Fulham
8pm BST, Anfield, Liverpool
Liverpool play their second home game of the week and they have to take all six points to keep their top four hopes alive. Their best chance of finishing in that top four is for United to slip up, but it’s a long shot at this stage.
The Liverpool players I mentioned above can all do very well for fantasy managers this week with Salah probably a very good captaincy choice.
Fulham play their second game of the week and a trip to Liverpool is no easier than their home game against City. They have lost three of their last four away games and they still have to travel to United too. They play three games in a row against teams below them after this game and they will be anxious to get to those games after what could be a tough week.
This might not be the best week for fantasy managers to own Fulham players despite them playing twice.
I think Liverpool will be strong enough to get their second win of the week in this game.
Prediction: 3-1
Manchester City v West Ham United
8pm BST, Etihad Stadium, Manchester
City play their second game of the week and they will go to the top of the table if they win both of them. They have won their last seven home games and they scored 23 goals in those games with no other team taking more points or scoring more goals on their own ground.
The City players I mentioned already are great options for fantasy managers this week and Haaland is the obvious choice for captain.
West Ham play their second away game of the week and away games don’t come any harder than a trip to City. They have to try to keep a balance between their Europa Conference League semi final and making sure they avoid relegation and it’s not an easy task. Anything they can get from this game would be a huge boost for them, but I can’t see it happening.
I’m not sure this will be the best week for fantasy managers to own West Ham players despite their two games.
I can’t see anything other than a comprehensive City victory in this game.
Prediction: 4-0
Thursday May 4
Brighton And Hove Albion v Manchester United
8pm BST, AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Brighton play their second home game of the week and they will be right back in the hunt for European football if they win both of them. They need to put the disappointment of the FA Cup behind them and beating the team that put them out would surely be the best way to do that.
The Brighton players I mentioned already could have a very good week for fantasy managers if things go their way.
United play their second game of the week and they’re both against teams who are hoping to chase them down. They have only won two of their last seven away games with only four other teams conceding more goals on the road. Their two games this week could make or break their top four hopes, but they have a good run of games to finish the season.
The United players I mentioned above are the ones who are most likely to perform for fantasy managers this week with Rashford a possible option for the captain’s armband.
I think Brighton might just be able to get some sort of revenge for their FA Cup semi final defeat in this game.
Prediction: 2-1
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
