Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 16

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games.  I did reasonably well last week with one perfect prediction, four correct outcomes and five incorrect outcomes which left me in fourth place in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

Mohamed Salah didn’t exactly perform heroics last week, but any return from a captain of your fantasy team is acceptable and I’m sticking with him yet again this week. My big move of last week was to bring Bernardo Silva in and that paid real dividends while Sergio Reguilon looks like he could be a good move too. In terms of bargain buys Emmanuel Dennis has a good run of games coming up and he might just flourish in them.

Friday December 10

Brentford v Watford

8pm GMT, Brentford Community Stadium, London

Brentford drew 2-2 away to Leeds last week and that point left them two points off the top half of the table. They won their last home game after only taking one point from their previous five at home and only two other teams have taken less points on their own ground. They have only won once in their last eight games and that was their only clean sheet in their last 10 games.

With Ivan Toney possibly back after a brush with Covid19 he’s probably the Brentford player most likely to have an impact for fantasy managers.

Watford lost 3-1 at home to City last week to leave themselves one place and three points above the relegation zone. No other team has lost more games away from home, but they have won two on the road as well. They have lost their last three games and they conceded nine goals in those games with only the bottom two conceding more goals, but no other team in the bottom half of the table has scored more goals.

Emmanuel Dennis is the bargain buy for fantasy managers in the Watford team and he could do well over the next few weeks.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 2-2

Saturday December 11

Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers

12.30pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City won 3-1 away to Watford last week to go to the top of the table after Chelsea were beaten by West Ham. Only Spurs have taken more points at home with only Liverpool and Chelsea scoring more goals at home and no other team conceding less. They have won their last five games and they scored 12 goals in those games while only conceding three with no other team conceding less goals.

Bernardo Silva is the City player in form for fantasy managers at the moment while all of their defenders and keeper are very good choices too.

Wolves lost 1-0 at home to Liverpool last week and that defeat saw them drop to eighth place. They haven’t won in their last three away games and they only scored one goal in those games, but only Chelsea have conceded less goals away from home. They haven’t won or scored a goal in their last three games, but they only conceded one goal in those games with only Norwich scoring less goals and only the top three conceding less.

Wolves are in the middle of a very tough run of games and it might be best for fantasy managers to avoid their players at the moment.

I don’t think there will be too many goals in this game, but the chances are City will win.

Prediction: 2-0

Arsenal v Southampton

3pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal lost 2-1 away to Everton on Monday night after leading at halftime and they’re now four points off the top four after having had a chance to go fourth last week. They have taken 16 points from their last six home games with only Spurs taking more points at home. They have lost three of their last four games and they conceded nine goals in those games.

Emile Smith-Rowe is the Arsenal player most likely to return points for fantasy managers.

Southampton drew 1-1 at home to Brighton last week and they’re only two places above the bottom three, but they do have six points to spare. They have lost their last two away games and they conceded six goals in those games with only two other teams taking less points on the road. They have only taken two points from their last four games and they conceded nine goals in those games with only two other teams scoring less goals.

Che Adams is the only Southampton player of any real interest to fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Arsenal should just about get the better of Southampton in a very close game.

Prediction: 2-1

Chelsea v Leeds United

3pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea lost 3-2 away to West Ham last week and that defeat cost them their place at the top of the table. They have drawn their last two home games, but no other team has scored more goals at home and only City have conceded less. They have only won two of their last five games, but only Liverpool have scored more goals and no other team has conceded less.

All of Chelsea’s defenders and their keeper are very good choices for fantasy managers while Mason Mount can be a very good choice too as long as he plays.

Leeds got a last minute goal to salvage a 2-2 draw at home to Brentford last week and they’re now six points above the bottom three. They have only won once in their seven away games with only three other teams scoring less goals on their travels. They have only lost once in their last seven games, but they drew four of them and only Brighton have drawn more games.

Raphinha is the Leeds player to have for fantasy managers and Patrick Bamford could be one to consider too now that he’s back from injury.

I think Chelsea will get back on track by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-0

Liverpool v Aston Villa

3pm GMT, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool got a last gasp goal to win 1-0 away to Wolves last week and they moved above Chelsea into second place in the table. They are the only team still unbeaten at home with no other team scoring more and only City conceding less goals on their own patch. Wolves were only the second team to stop them scoring more than one goal with no other team scoring more goals and only City and Chelsea conceding less.

Mohamed Salah is the must have Liverpool player for fantasy managers with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane great choices too and Liverpool’s defenders and keeper are also good options.

Villa came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Leicester last week and that win was enough to move them into the top half of the table on goal difference. They won their last away game after losing the previous three and no other team has lost more away games. They have taken nine points from their last four games and it looks like Steven Gerrard might have changed their fortunes very quickly.

Both John McGinn and Ollie Watkins look like good choices for fantasy managers, but maybe not in this game.

I can’t see anything other than a Liverpool victory in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Norwich City v Manchester United

5.30pm GMT, Carrow Road, Norwich

Norwich lost 3-0 away to Spurs last week and that defeat sent them back to the foot of the table. They have taken five points from their last three home games, but no other team has taken less points or scored less goals on their own ground. The defeat against Spurs was their first defeat in five games, but no other team has scored less or conceded more goals.

Teemu Pukki is the only Norwich player for fantasy managers to consider, but it’s a risk to pick him as they score so few goals.

United won 1-0 at home to Palace last week and they’re now only three points off the top four. They have only won once in their last four away games and they conceded nine goals in those games, but they have a good run of away games coming up. They have won their last two games after only winning one of the previous eight, but no other team in the top half of the table has conceded more goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes are the United players most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers, but there are plenty of others who can step up too.

United’s recovery should continue by taking the three points in this game with a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 0-2

Sunday December 12

Brighton And Hove Albion v Tottenham Hotspur

2pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton drew 1-1 away to Southampton last week and they’re still in the top half of the table despite all their draws. They haven’t won in their last four home games, but they drew three of them with only Wolves and Norwich scoring less goals at home. They haven’t won in 10 games, but they drew eight of those games with no other team drawing more games.

It’s not too easy to see any Brighton players to recommend to fantasy managers, but Tariq Lamptey, Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard are all worth considering.

Spurs won 3-0 at home to Norwich last week and they have now moved up to fifth place with a game in hand on the teams above them. They have only won once in their last five away games with only Norwich scoring less goals on the road. They have won their last three games and they scored seven goals in those games as well as keeping three clean sheets in their last four games.

Heung-Min Son is the in form Spurs player for fantasy managers while Sergio Reguilon is looking like a good option along with the other Spurs defenders and their keeper.

This is a tough game to predict, but the chances are it will end all square.

Prediction: 1-1

Burnley v West Ham United

2pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley lost 1-0 away to Newcastle last week and they’re now only off the foot of the table on goal difference. They have taken five points from their last three home games, but only Norwich have taken less points at home. They had only lost once in eight games before losing to Newcastle, but they drew six of those games with only Brighton drawing more games.

Maxwel Cornet is the Burnley player most likely to make an impression for fantasy managers, but he’s carrying an injury and might not play.

West Ham won 3-2 at home to Chelsea last week to strengthen their grip on fourth place. They have lost their last two away games, but only the top three have taken more points away from home and only three other teams have conceded less goals on their travels. They beat Chelsea after failing to win their previous three games and they have a run of games coming up which could see them doing very well.

I think Jarrod Bowen is the West Ham player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think West Ham will strengthen their top four place with a narrow victory in this game.

Prediction: 1-2

Leicester City v Newcastle United

2pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester lost 2-1 away to Villa last week after going 1-0 up and that defeat saw them fall below Villa and into the bottom half of the table. They have lost two of their last three home games and they have conceded nine goals in their last four games at home. They have only won once in their last six games and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 14 games with only three other teams conceding more goals.

Jamie Vardy might not have started against Villa, but he could be the Leicester player to have in this game for fantasy managers while James Maddison and Harvey Barnes have done well recently.

Newcastle won 1-0 at home to Burnley last week to register their first win of the season and it was enough to get them off the foot of the table on goal difference. They are one of two teams without an away win and no other team has taken less points on the road with only Norwich scoring less goals. They have a very tough run of games coming up and only Norwich have conceded more goals.

Callum Wilson is the Newcastle player to have for fantasy managers as long as he can stay fit.

I think Leicester should bounce back from their defeat by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Crystal Palace v Everton

4.30pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London

Palace lost 1-0 away to United last week, but they’re still closer to the top half of the table than the relegation zone. They lost their last home game, but that was their first defeat at home and only Southampton have drawn more games on their own patch while only three other teams have conceded less goals at home. They have only taken one point from their last four games, but they have a run of games coming up in which they will hope to do better.

Conor Gallagher hasn’t done as well as he had being doing in recent weeks, but he still looks like a good option for fantasy managers.

Everton came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Arsenal on Monday night and they’re now only one point off the top half of the table. Only two other teams have taken less points away from home and only three other teams have scored less goals on their travels. The win against Arsenal was their first win in nine games and they lost six of those games while  only four other teams have conceded more goals.

Demarai Gray has managed to find some form in recent games and he’s still available at a very good price for fantasy managers.

I think Palace should have enough to get the better of Everton in a close game.

Prediction: 2-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
