Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Eight

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did fairly well last time out with one perfect prediction, five correct outcomes and four incorrect outcomes which saw me drop one place to third in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

I suggested Cristiano Ronaldo would be a good captain in the last Gameweek, but I have learned my lesson and I’m going to stick with Mohamed Salah this week. When it comes to cut price players Hee-Chan Hwang of Wolves might be a good option while the Everton trio of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray are very good options too.

Saturday October 16

Watford v Liverpool

12.30pm BST, Vicarage Road, Watford

Watford lost 1-0 away to Leeds last time out and yet again they parted ways with their manager after the game. They haven’t won in their last two home games and they have a really tough run of home games coming up starting with this one. They have lost four of their last six games and they failed to score in each of those defeats.

Ismailia Sarr is the Watford player most likely to do well for fantasy managers, but they have a tough run of games coming up.

Liverpool drew 2-2 at home to City in their last game and they’re one point behind Chelsea at the top of the table. Only Brentford have taken more points away from home and no other team has scored more goals on their travels. They’re the only team still unbeaten, but they have only won two of their last five games.

Mohamed Salah is an absolute must have for fantasy managers while Sadio Mane and all of the Liverpool defenders and keeper are very good choices too.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Liverpool victory in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Aston Villa v Wolverhampton Wanderers

3pm BST, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa lost 2-1 away to Spurs in their last game, but they managed to remain in the top half of the table on goal difference. They have taken seven points from their three home games with only City conceding less goals on their own patch. They had taken 10 points from their previous five games before losing to Spurs and they will want to get back to winning ways against their local rivals.

Danny Ings is probably the Villa player to have for fantasy managers with Emiliano Martinez worth considering too.

Wolves won 2-1 at home to Newcastle last time out to move within a point of the top half of the table. They have won their last two away games without conceding a goal and no other team has conceded less goals on the road. They have won three of their last four games and they kept clean sheets in two of those games while only three other teams have conceded less goals.

Raul Jiminez has done well for fantasy managers in recent weeks and Hee-Chan Hwang might just be one to consider too.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Leicester City v Manchester United

3pm BST, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester led 2-0 away to Palace last time out, but they they had to settle for a 2-2 draw and they’re still in the bottom half of the table. They have only taken one point from their last two home games and this is the first of three tough home games in a row. They have only taken two points from their last four games and they conceded seven goals in those games with only three other teams conceding more goals.

Despite Leicester not having a great start to their season Jamie Vardy is still looking very good for fantasy managers at the moment and Kelechi Iheanacho might be worth a shout too now that he might just be back in favour.

United drew 1-1 at home to Everton in their last game, but they’re still only two points off the top of the table. They have carried over their away form from last season with seven points from their three games so far. They really need three points from this game ahead of a difficult run of games which could go a long way to deciding whether they will challenge for the title.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood are all worth considering for fantasy managers, but they have a tough run of games in the pipeline.

I think this will be a close game with United probably winning by one goal.

Prediction: 1-2

Manchester City v Burnley

3pm BST, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City twice came from behind to draw 2-2 away to Liverpool last time out and like three other teams they’re only two points off the top of the table. They have taken seven points in three home games and no other team has scored more or conceded less at home. They have taken 14 points from six games since losing their opening game and they kept clean sheets in five of their last six games.

City’s defenders and keeper are the most likely to do well for fantasy managers as they seem to be avoiding the squad rotation while Gabriel Jesus is doing very well at the moment too.

Burnley drew 0-0 at home to Norwich in their last game, but that point wasn’t enough to move them out of the relegation zone. They have only taken one point away from home and they face Chelsea in their next away game after this one. They’re one of four teams still without a win with only Norwich scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Burnley players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

I think City should win this game with quite a few goals to spare.

Prediction: 4-0

Norwich City v Brighton And Hove Albion

3pm BST, Carrow Road, Norwich

Norwich got their first point of the season in a 0-0 draw away to Burnley last time out, but they’re still rooted to the foot of the table. They have lost all of their home games so far with only Newcastle and Leicester conceding more goals at home. No other team has scored less or conceded more goals and they’re already strong favourites for relegation.

I can’t see any Norwich players to interest fantasy managers at the moment.

Brighton drew 0-0 at home to Arsenal in their last game and they’re only two points off the top of the table after an impressive start to the season. They’re still unbeaten away from home with only Chelsea and Wolves conceding less goals on their travels. They have only lost one game so far, but they face City and Liverpool in their next two games.

Neal Maupay and Shane Duffy are the Brighton players to have for fantasy managers at the moment, but they have two very tough games after this one.

I think Brighton will continue their good start to the season by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Southampton v Leeds United

3pm BST, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton lost 3-1 away to Chelsea in their last game and they’re only one point and one place above the bottom three. No other team has scored less goals at home, but they don’t play any of the “big six” in their next six home games. Only Norwich have scored less goals and no other team has drawn more games.

With James Ward-Prowse suspended for three games I can’t see any Southampton players who might make a difference for fantasy managers.

Leeds won 1-0 at home to Watford in their last game to get their first win of the season and move three points above the bottom three. They have drawn their last two away games and they have a good run of away games coming up. Only Norwich and Newcastle have conceded more goals, but they will hope to climb the table with their favourable run of games coming up.

Raphinha is the Leeds player to have for fantasy managers at the moment (as long as he returns intact from international duty) with a good run of games coming up and Patrick Bamford should be considered too if he recovers from injury.

I think this will be another very close game with the points more than likely being shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Brentford v Chelsea

5.30pm BST, Brentford Community Stadium, Brentford

Brentford won 2-1 away to West Ham in their last game and they’re only two points off the top four. They haven’t won in their last two home games and they will do very well to get anything from this game. They have a good run of games after this one which could see them maintain their impressive start to the season.

Brentford’s defenders and keeper are all doing very well for fantasy managers while Ivan Toney is worth considering too.

Chelsea won 3-1 at home to Southampton in their last game to move to the top of the table. No other team has taken more points at home and only the two Manchester clubs have scored more goals on their own patch. They have a very good run of games at the moment which could see them open a bit of a gap at the top of the table.

Chelsea’s defenders and keeper are all very good choices for fantasy managers while Romelu Lukaku might do well over the next few weeks.

I think Chelsea should just about win this game, but it won’t be easy for them.

Prediction: 0-1

Sunday October 17

Everton v West Ham United

2pm BST, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton drew 1-1 away to United last time out and they’re only outside the top four on goal difference. They’re the only team still with a 100% record at home with only City and Villa conceding less goals on their own ground. They have had a very good start to their season and it could get even better if they can get Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison back from injury.

Abdoulaye Doucoure, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray are all very good options for fantasy managers and they’re available at very good prices too.

West Ham lost 2-1 at home to Brentford in their last game as their midweek European excursions seemed to catch up on them. They’re one of six teams still unbeaten away from home with only Brentford taking more points on their travels. Only the top two have scored more goals, but no other team in the top half of the table has conceded more goals.

Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma have been in great form for fantasy managers, but the big question is can they continue to impress.

This is a game which could go either way and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end all square.

Prediction: 2-2

Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur

4.30pm BST, St. James’s Stadium, Newcastle

Newcastle lost 2-1 away to Wolves in their last game and they’re now only one place above the foot of the table. Only Norwich have taken less points and scored less goals at home and they play Chelsea in their next home game. No other team has conceded more goals and only Norwich have taken less points, but only one other team in the bottom half of the table has scored more goals.

Despite their poor form Allan Saint-Maximin is still a good choice for fantasy managers and Callum Wilson should be considered when he returns from injury.

Spurs won 2-1 at home to Villa in their last game and they’re only two points off the top four. They have lost their last two away games and they conceded six goals in those two games. They had lost three games in a row before beating Villa and they have three hard games in a row after this game.

Heung-Min Son is the Spurs player to have for fantasy managers as so many of them wait for Harry Kane to eventually get going.

I think Spurs will just about get the better of proceedings despite Newcastle suddenly becoming the “richest” club in the world.

Prediction: 1-2

Monday October 18

Arsenal v Crystal Palace

8pm BST, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal drew 0-0 away to Brighton in their last game, but they dropped into the bottom half of the table on goal difference. They have won their last two home games and they don’t face any of the other big six sides in their next seven home games. They have taken 10 points and only conceded one goal in their last four games, but only Norwich have scored less goals.

Arsenal’s defenders and keeper have done very well for fantasy managers in recent weeks, but their attacking players haven’t done too much to write home about.

Palace came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to Leicester last time out and they’re only three points behind Arsenal going into this game. They have only taken one point from their three away games with only Newcastle and Leicester conceding more goals on the road. No other team has drawn more games than Palace and only four other teams have conceded more goals.

Conor Gallagher is the cut price bargain for fantasy managers in the Palace team while Wilfried Zaha is a fairly good option too.

There probably won’t be too much in this game, but the chances are Arsenal will win narrowly.

Prediction: 2-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
