Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 37

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t do too well last week week with eight correct outcomes and eight incorrect outcomes which left me in seventh place in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

My captain choice cost me badly last week as Mohamed Salah failed to impress in his two games while deciding not to opt for Kevin de Bruyne was a huge mistake. There are five teams with two games this week and I’ll be using my free hit chip to fill my team with their players. Choosing my captain won’t be easy, but I’ll probably opt for one out of Danny Ings, Wilfried Zaha, James Maddison and Jamie Vardy. There are plenty of cut price options in those five teams playing twice, but it only makes sense to opt for them if you have your final free hit chip left to use. One final word of warning is Manchester United don’t play this week, but given their performance last that’s probably not a bad thing.

Sunday May 15

Tottenham Hotspur v Burnley

12pm BST, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Spurs drew 1-1 away to Liverpool and won 3-0 at home to Arsenal last week to move within one point of the top four. They have won five of their last six home games and they scored 19 goals in those games with only the top two winning more games and scoring more goals at home. They have only won two of their last five games, but their last two games are against teams at the wrong end of the table and they should win both of them.

Heung-Min Son is the Spurs player to have for fantasy managers at the moment with Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski doing pretty well too.

Burnley lost 3-1 at home to Villa last week and that defeat left them above the relegation zone on goal difference only. They have taken four points from their last two away games, but only Norwich have scored less goals on their travels. They lost their last game after taking 10 points from the previous four and they probably need to win one of their last three games to stay up.

With two games this week Burnley players could be of interest to fantasy managers and Wout Weghorst is probably the one most likely to return some points.

I think Burnley will give it their all, but Spurs should win by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 3-1

Aston Villa v Crystal Palace

2pm BST, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa won 3-1 away to Burnley before losing 2-1 at home to Liverpool last week and they’re still only two points off the top half of the table. They have lost three of their last four home games with only the bottom three losing more games on their own patch. They had won two games in a row before losing to Liverpool and they will see their two games this week as ones they can win.

With two games this week Danny Ings, Matty Cash and maybe Phillippe Coutinho could do well for fantasy managers.

Palace won 1-0 at home to Watford last week and they’re a point ahead of Villa going into this game. They have only lost two of their last eight away games, but they drew three of them with only Brighton and Burnley drawing more away games. They have taken seven points from their last three games and they kept clean sheets in two of them.

Wilfried Zaha and Conor Gallagher could do very well for fantasy managers with two games to play this week.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Leeds United v Brighton And Hove Albion

2pm BST, Elland Road, Leeds

Leeds lost 2-1 away to Arsenal and 3-0 at home to Chelsea last week and they need something from this game to try to get out of the bottom three. They have lost their last two home games and they conceded seven goals in those two games with only Watford and Norwich conceding more goals on their own ground. They have lost their last three games and they conceded nine goals in those games after taking 11 points from the previous five games and only Norwich have conceded more goals.

I’m not sure there are any Leeds players to interest fantasy managers at the moment.

Brighton won 4-0 at home to United last week and they’re in a strong position to finish in the top half of the table. They have won three of their last four away games with only three other teams taking more points on the road and no other team drawing more away games. They have taken 13 points from their last six games including wins against three of the big six and no other team has drawn more games.

I suggested Leandro Trossard might be a good choice for fantasy managers last week and he looks like a good choice again this week.

I think Brighton should be good enough to take the three points and put Leeds perilously close to relegation.

Prediction: 0-2

Watford v Leicester City

2pm BST, Vicarage Road, Watford

Watford lost 1-0 away to Palace and drew 0-0 at home to Everton last week and they will be playing their football in the Championship next season. They drew their last home game after losing the previous 11 and no other team has taken less points or conceded more goals at home. The point against Everton was their first point in seven games with only Norwich and Leeds conceding more goals and only Norwich scoring less.

I can’t see any Watford players who might make a difference for fantasy managers.

Leicester lost 2-1 at home to Everton before winning 3-0 at home to Norwich last week and that win was enough to move them into the top half of the table. They haven’t won in their last five away games with only three other teams taking less points on the road and only four other teams conceding more goals. The win against Norwich was their first win in six games and no other team in the top half of the table has conceded more goals.

With two games this week James Maddison, Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes could all do very well for fantasy managers.

I think Leicester will strengthen their grip on a place in the top half of the table by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

West Ham United v Manchester City

2pm BST, London Stadium, London

West Ham won 4-0 away to Norwich last week to move within three points of sixth place with a game in hand and better goal difference. They lost their last home game, but that was their first home defeat in seven games and only five other teams have taken more points on their own patch. The win against Norwich was their first win in five games and they will do well to get anything from this game.

Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma are in good form for fantasy managers, but they might not do well in this game.

City won 5-0 at home to Newcastle and 5-1 away to Wolves last week to stretch their lead at the top of the table to three points with only two games left to play. They have won 12 of their last 14 away games and no other team has taken more points or conceding less goals away from home. They have won their last five games and they scored 22 goals in those games with no other team scoring more or conceding less goals.

Kevin de Bruyne certainly lived up to his billing last week and he looks like the ideal City player for fantasy managers again this week.

I think City will get the three points they need to make the title almost theirs yet again.

Prediction: 1-3

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Norwich City

2pm BST, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton

Wolves drew 2-2 away to Chelsea and lost 5-1 at home to City last week. They have lost four of their last six home games and they have taken more points on the road than they have at home. They have only taken one point from their last five games, but they will see this as a game they should win.

With a very good game this week Raul Jiminez might be of interest to fantasy managers.

Norwich lost 4-0 at home to West Ham and 3-0 away to Leicester last week week and it’s only a matter of whether they finish last or second last in the table at this point. They have only taken one point from their last seven away games and with no other team taking less points or conceding less goals on their travels. They have lost their last five games and they conceded 15 goals in those games while only scoring one with no other team conceding more or scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Norwich players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Wolves will bounce back from their defeat against City to take the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-0

Everton v Brentford

4.30pm BST, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton won 2-1 away to Leicester and drew 0-0 away to Watford last week week and those four points were enough to move them two points clear of the bottom three. They have taken 10 points from their last four home games and they only conceded one goal in those four games. They have taken 11 points from their last six games and they only need four points from their last three games to guarantee their survival, but realistically one point will probably be enough.

With two games this week Anthony Gordon and Richarlison could both do quite well for fantasy managers.

Brentford won 3-0 at home to Southampton last week and they can still finish in the top half of the table if they win their last two games and other results go their way. They have won three of their last five away games and they will fancy their chances against a team three places below them in the table. They have taken 13 points from their last six games and they stand a very good chance of winning their last two games.

Ivan Toney is the Brentford player most likely to score points for fantasy managers this week.

I think this will be a close game, but the chances are Everton will get the win they need to as good as guarantee their survival.

Prediction: 2-1

Monday May 16

Newcastle United v Arsenal

8pm BST, St. James’s Park Newcastle

Newcastle lost 5-0 away to City last week, but they’re still only two points off the top half of the table. They lost their last home game against Liverpool, but they won six in a row at home before that and only three other teams have conceded more goals at home. They lost their last two games without scoring, but they won the previous four and they will want to finish their home games on a high.

Bruno Guimaraes is the Newcastle player who could do well for fantasy managers while the returning Callum Wilson should be considered too.

Arsenal won 2-1 at home to Leeds and then lost 3-0 away to Spurs last week and they now only have one point to spare in the battle for a top four place. They lost their last away game after winning the previous three and no other team has drawn less games on the road. They lost their last game after winning the previous four with only the top two winning more games and no other team drawing less.

Eddie Nketiah is the Arsenal player most likely to do well for fantasy managers at the moment.

This is a game which could go either way, but I think Arsenal should just manage a narrow victory.

Prediction: 1-2

Tuesday May 17

Southampton v Liverpool

7.45pm BST, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton lost 3-0 away to Brentford last week and it looks like the end of the season can’t come quickly enough for them. They have lost four of their last five home games and their chances of reversing that trend in this game are slim. They have only once in their last 10 games and they conceded 20 goals in those games with only the bottom three conceding more goals.

James Ward-Prowse is the Southampton player to have for fantasy managers, but maybe not in this game.

Liverpool drew 1-1 at home to Spurs and won 2-1 away to Villa last week and they need City to drop a minimum of three points in their last two games if they’re going to catch them. The only points they dropped in their last seven away games were in their draw at City and no other team has scored more goals away from home. They have taken 44 points from their last 16 games with only City scoring more and conceding less goals.

With Liverpool needing to score plenty of goals Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are all possibilities for fantasy managers while all of their defenders and keeper are worth considering too.

I think Liverpool should be too good for Southampton and should win by a few goals.

Prediction: 0-3

Thursday May 19

Everton v Crystal Palace

7.45om BST, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton play their second home game of the week and a win in either of them should be enough to keep them up. As I said already it looks like they will avoid relegation and this game should give them a chance to finish their home games on a positive note.

As I mentioned previously Everton players might not be the worst options for fantasy managers this week with two games.

Palace play their second away game of the week and they could move up to eighth place if they win them both and other results go their way. Both of their games are against teams below them in the table so they will be hopeful of setting themselves up for a good finale to their season at home to United next week.

Both Zaha and Gallagher are the Palace players of most interest to fantasy managers this week, but Marc Guehi is worth considering too if he’s fit to play.

This is a tough game to call as other results will have an influence on it, but I think a draw is the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 2-2

Aston Villa v Burnley

8pm BST, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa play their second home game of the week and they have the opportunity to climb the table if they can win them both. A home game against a team that will probably just survive in the top flight for another should see then as strong favourable to take the three points.

The Villa players I mentioned previously could all have a very good week for fantasy managers as could Ollie Watkins if he’s fit to play.

Burnley play their second away game of the week and they could be as good as safe going into this game if they win away to Spurs and Leeds lose to Brighton. It’s unlikely they will beat Spurs though and anything they can get from this game could prove to be very important to them.

Despite having two games and possibly needing to get something from them I’m still not convinced Burnley players will do well for fantasy managers this week.

I think Villa will more than likely get the better of Burnley and take the three points.

Prediction: 2-0

Chelsea v Leicester City

8pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea drew 2-2 at home to Wolves and won 3-0 away to Leeds and they will finish in third place if they win this game. They have only won once in their last four home games and it’s their home form which stopped them from keeping up their title challenge. Despite losing the Cup Final on Saturday they should still be favourites to win this game and secure their third place finish.

It’s hard to know which Chelsea players will play this game after the FA Cup Final on Saturday, but Mason Mount and Romelu Lukaku are their form players at the moment.

Leicester play their second away game of the week and a trip to Chelsea should be a lot tougher than their game against Watford. After their European adventure ended their will want to finish in the top half of the table, but they could struggle in this game.

The Leicester players I mentioned above could all have a very good week if they don’t make too many changes from one game to another.

I think Leicester will push Chelsea, but the chances are Chelsea will take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
