Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Nine

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did reasonably well last week with one perfect prediction, three correct outcomes and six incorrect outcomes which meant I stayed in third place in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

My captain choice for last week worked out very well with Mohamed Salah returning plenty of points and I’m going to stick with him again considering how well he is playing at the moment. When it comes to cut price players Tino Livramento has impressed recently and Bryan Mbeumo has hit the woodwork so often that he’s bound to score a few goals soon. My fantasy team is still doing pretty well as it sits just outside the top 200,000 out of almost 8.5 million teams.

Friday October 22

Arsenal v Aston Villa

8pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal got a fairly lucky 2-2 draw at home to Palace last week which meant that they stayed in the bottom half of the table. They have taken seven points from their last three home games and they scored six goals in those games. They have taken 11 points from their last five games and they kept three clean sheets in those games.

I still can’t see any Arsenal players who are making enough of an impression to interest fantasy managers.

Villa were 2-0 at home to Wolves last week with 10 minutes to go, but they somehow managed to lose 3-2 and they’re a point behind Arsenal going into this game. They have lost three of their four away games and only three other teams have conceded more goals on their travels. They have lost their last two games and they conceded five goals in those two games.

Danny Ings looks like he’s a good option for fantasy managers as always.

I think this will be a very close game which could go either way and the chances are Arsenal will just edge it.

Prediction: 2-1

Saturday October 23

Chelsea v Norwich City

12.30pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea just about held on to win 1-0 away to Brentford last week and that win was enough to keep them on top of the table. Only City have taken more points and conceded less goals on their own ground. They have won six of their eight games with only Liverpool scoring more goals and no other team conceding less.

As I’ve said previously Chelsea’s defenders and keeper are doing very well for fantasy managers.

Norwich got their second point of the season with another 0-0 draw at home to Brighton last week, but they’re still rooted to the foot of the table. They’re the only team without a goal away from home and no other team has taken less points on the road. They have drawn their last two games after losing the previous six with no other team scoring less goals and only Newcastle conceding more.

I can’t see any Norwich players to recommend to fantasy managers.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Chelsea victory in this game.

Prediction: 3-0

Crystal Palace v Newcastle United

3pm BST, Selhurst Park, London

Palace drew 2-2 away to Arsenal last week after they conceded a last minute equaliser, but they’re still closer to the top half of the table than the bottom three. They’re one of three teams still unbeaten at home, but no other team has drawn more games on their own patch. They have only lost one of their last seven games, but no other team has drawn more games and only five other teams have conceded more goals.

Conor Gallagher looks like the best of the Palace players for fantasy managers with Wilfried Zaha and Odsonne Edouard worth considering too.

Newcastle lost 3-2 at home to Spurs last week and they’re now only one point off the foot of the table. No other team has taken less points away from home and only Palace have conceded more away goals. They’re one of three teams still without a win and no other team has conceded more goals.

Despite their poor league position I still think there’s value in Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin for fantasy managers.

I think Palace will get a much needed win in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Everton v Watford

3pm BST, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton lost 1-0 at home to West Ham last week, but they’re still only one point off the top four. The defeat last week was the first points they have dropped at home with only three other teams conceding less goals on their own ground. They have only won once in their last four games, but a win in this game could put them back into the top four.

Despite the defeat against West Ham Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray are still pretty good options for fantasy managers, but they are missing some key players through injury.

Watford lost 5-0 at home to Liverpool last week as Claudio Ranieri’s reign got off to a pretty inauspicious start. They have lost three of their four away games and they failed to score in each of those defeats. They have only taken one point in their last three games with only Norwich losing more games and only Newcastle and Norwich conceding more goals.

Ismailia Sarr is the only Watford player for fantasy managers to consider.

I think Everton will bounce back with by winning this game by at least a couple of goals.

Prediction: 2-0

Leeds United v Wolverhampton Wanderers

3pm BST, Elland Road, Leeds

Leeds lost 1-0 away to Southampton last week and they’re only one place above the relegation zone. They won their last home game after failing to win the previous three. Their only clean sheet so far came in their only win and only two other teams have conceded more goals.

Raphinha should be available again this week and he’s a very good choice for fantasy managers.

Wolves came back from 2-0 down with 10 minutes to go to win 3-2 away to Villa last week and that win was enough to move them into the top half of the table. They have won their last three away games and only three other teams have conceded less goals away from home. They have won four of their last five games and they’re one of only two teams who haven’t drawn a game yet.

Raul Jiminez could be the Villa player to have for fantasy managers while Hee-Chan Hwang is worth a shout too.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Southampton v Burnley

3pm BST, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton got their first victory of the season last week when they won 1-0 at home to Leeds and that was enough to move them four points clear of the bottom three. No other team has scored less goals at home, but only City have conceded less. Only Palace have drawn more games while only Norwich and Burnley have scored less goals.

With James Ward-Prowse suspended Tino Livramento looks like he could be the Southampton player to make an impression for fantasy managers and he’s available at a very good price too.

Burnley did well to limit their defeat to two goals away to City last week, but they’re only one point off the bottom of the table. They have only taken one point away from home with only Norwich and Arsenal scoring less away goals and only Palace conceding more. Only Norwich have lost more games and scored less goals and they’re one of three teams without a win.

I can’t see any Burnley players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Southampton will make it back to back victories with a narrow win in this game.

Prediction: 1-0

Brighton And Hove Albion v Manchester City

5.30pm BST, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton drew 0-0 away to Norwich last week and that point was enough to move them into the top four. Their only defeat so far came at home, but only three other teams have conceded less goals at home. No other team in the top half of the table has scored less goals, but only Chelsea and City have conceded less.

Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk are both doing very well for fantasy managers while Neal Maupay isn’t doing too badly either.

City won 2-0 at home to Burnley last week and they’re still only two points behind Chelsea at the top of the table. Their only defeat so far came away from home and they have only scored four goals in their four away games. Only Liverpool have scored more goals and no other team has conceded less and they only play one of the other big six teams in their next 12 games.

City’s defenders and keeper are still the best bets for fantasy managers while Gabriel Jesus might be worth considering too.

I think City will keep up their pursuit of Chelsea with another three points in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Sunday October 24

Brentford v Leicester City

2pm BST, Brentford Community Stadium, London

Brentford were very unlucky to lose 1-0 at home to Chelsea last week, but they’re still in the top half of the table. They haven’t won in their last three home games, but they have already played three of the big six on their own patch. They have been very impressive so far and they look capable of getting a result against any team.

Brentford’s defenders and keeper have impressed for fantasy managers while Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo are doing pretty well too.

Leicester came from behind to win 4-2 at home to United last week and they’re only one point off the top half of the table. They have only won once in their four away games with only Palace conceding more goals on the road. The win against United was their first win in five games and only four other teams have conceded more goals.

As always Jamie Vardy is the Leicester player to have for fantasy managers with Youri Tielemans performing well too while Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka look more than capable given a chance.

I think this is a very tough game to call, but I have a feeling Brentford might just sneak a win.

Prediction: 2-1

West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur

2pm BST, London Stadium, London

West Ham won 1-0 away to Everton last week to move within one point of the top four. They have only won once in their four home games with only three other teams conceding more goals at home. The win against Everton was only their second win in six games and they have a tough run of games coming up.

Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma have been the West Ham players to have for fantasy managers, but they haven’t performed in their last two games.

Spurs came from behind to win 3-2 away to Newcastle last week and they’re only outside the top four on goal difference. They have lost two of their last three away games and they conceded eight goals in those three games with only four other teams conceding more goals away from home. They have won their last two games after losing the previous three and no other team in the top half of the table has conceded more goals.

Heung-Min Son is the Spurs player to have for fantasy managers with Harry Kane worth considering too now that he’s eventually off the mark.

I think this is a game with could go either way with a draw probably the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 2-2

Manchester United v Liverpool

4.30pm BST, Old Trafford, Manchester

United lost 4-2 away to Leicester last week and that defeat saw them drop to sixth in the table. They have only taken one point from their last two home games, but only City have scored more goals at home. They have only taken one point from their last three games and they conceded six goals in those games, but only Liverpool have scored more goals.

There are still a lot of United players to choose from for fantasy managers with Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Cristiano Ronaldo doing very well while Marcus Rashford should be considered too now that he’s fit again.

Liverpool won 5-0 away to Watford last week and they’re only one point behind Chelsea at the top of the table. No other team has taken more points or scored more goals away from home and they have kept three clean sheets in their four away games. They’re the only team still unbeaten with no other team scoring more goals and they have scored three or more goals in five of their eight games.

Mohamed Salah is still an absolute must have for fantasy managers with all of their defenders and keeper very good options too along with Sadio Mane.

This is a very big game for both teams and I think Liverpool might just take the three points.

Prediction: 1-3

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
