Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 38

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t do so well last week with only four correct outcomes and six incorrect outcomes which still left me on top of my predictions league, but not by too much with the season almost over. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

Sunday May 23

All Kick Offs 4pm

Arsenal v Brighton And Hove Albion

Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal left it late in midweek, but they won 3-1 away to Palace to keep their slim hopes of European football for next season alive. They won their last home game against West Brom, but that was only their second home win in six games and they have lost as many games as they have won at home. They have won their last four games and they scored nine goals in those games while only conceding two with only City and Chelsea conceding less goals.

Nicolas Pepe has done well for fantasy managers in recent weeks while Emile Smith-Rowe hasn’t done too badly either.

Brighton came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at home to City in midweek and they can still finish as high as 13th if they win this game. They have only taken one point from their last four away games with only two other teams scoring less goals on their travels. Their win against City was only their second win in eight games and no other team has drawn more games.

Pascal Gross has done quite well in recent weeks for fantasy managers and he’s certainly worth considering.

I think this will be a very close game with Arsenal probably winning by a single goal.

Prediction: 2-1

Aston Villa v Chelsea

Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa won 2-1 away to Spurs in midweek and they will finish in 11th no matter what happens in this game or any other. They have only won once in their last eight home games and they have lost more games than they have won at home. They have only won once in their last seven games and they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 11 games.

Ollie Watkins is probably the Villa player to have for fantasy managers for the final game of the season.

Chelsea won 2-1 at home to Leicester in midweek to leave their top four fate in their own hands going into the last game of the season. They have taken 20 points from their last eight away games and they kept clean sheets in half of those games. They have taken 16 points from their last seven games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games with only City conceding less goals.

Chelsea’s defenders and keeper are the ones to have for fantasy managers with Mason Mount worth a shout too.

Chelsea will finish in the top four if they win this game, but I think Villa might thwart their hopes by taking a point off them.

Prediction: 1-1

Fulham v Newcastle United

Craven Cottage, London

Fulham drew 1-1 away to United in midweek and they will want to say goodbye to the Premier League with a rare home win before they depart for the Championship. They have lost their last five home games and they failed to score in four of those games with no other team taking less points or scoring less goals at home. They have only taken two points and scored five goals in their last nine games with only Sheffield United scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Fulham players to recommend to fantasy managers.

Newcastle won 1-0 at home to Sheffield United in midweek as their strong finish to the season continued and they can finish as high as 12th if they win this game. They have taken seven points and scored seven goals in their last three games, but only five other teams have conceded more goals away from home. They have taken 14 points and scored 16 goals in their last eight games, but only four other teams have conceded more goals.

Joe Willock is the Newcastle player to have for fantasy managers while Allan Saint-Maximin could be worth considering too.

I think this will be another very close game with Newcastle probably just getting the better of proceedings.

Prediction: 1-2

Leeds United v West Bromwich Albion

Elland Road, Leeds

Leeds won 2-0 away to Southampton in midweek and they could finish as high as eighth place if they win this game and other results go their way. They are unbeaten in five games at home and they only conceded three goals in those games. They have only lost once in their last 10 games and they kept clean sheets in four of those games.

There are so many Leeds players to choose from for fantasy managers with Stuart Dallas, Jack Harrison, Patrick Bamford, Raphinha and Rodrigo Moreno all worth having.

West Brom lost 3-1 at home to West Ham in midweek and they could possibly move up a place in the table if they win this game, but it won’t stop them being relegated. They have only taken five points from their last nine away games with only two other teams conceding more goals on the road. They have only taken two points from their last six games and they conceded 14 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals.

If he’s fit to play Matheus Pereira is the only West Brom player to really interest fantasy managers.

I think Leeds will give their fans a taste of what they missed all season by winning this game well.

Prediction: 3-1

Leicester City v Tottenham Hotspur

King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester lost 2-1 away to Chelsea in midweek and that defeat saw them drop out of the top four for the first time in a very long time. They have lost four of their last eight home games and only five other teams have lost more games on their own patch. They have only taken four points from their last four games and they conceded eight goals in those games with only the top two scoring more goals.

If Leicester are going to make the top four then they will need Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy to perform and that could be of benefit to fantasy managers.

Spurs lost 2-1 at home to Villa last week and they need a win in this game to have a chance of finishing in the top six and qualifying for the Europa League. They have only won once in their last five away games and they conceded nine goals in those games. They have only won three of their last eight games and they conceded 13 goals in those games, but they did score 15 goals.

If Spurs are going to get the win they need then Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Gareth Bale could all do well for fantasy managers.

I think this will be another very close game and the chances are Leicester will win despite their poor home record.

Prediction: 2-1

Liverpool v Crystal Palace

Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool won 3-0 away to Burnley in midweek and a win in this game will be enough to qualify them for the Champions League unless Leicester absolutely thrash Spurs and Chelsea win too. They have taken seven points from their last three home games after losing the previous six. They have taken 23 points from their last nine games and they scored 19 goals in those games with only the top two scoring more goals.

If Liverpool are going to get the win they need then Mohamed Salah has to be a good choice for fantasy managers and Trent Alexander-Arnold looks good too.

Palace lost 3-1 at home to Arsenal in midweek and like a few other teams they could finish as high as 12th if they win this game. They have lost three of their last five away games and they conceded 10 goals in those five games with only four other teams conceding more goals on their travels. They have lost five of their last seven games and they conceded 16 goals in those games with only two other teams conceding more goals.

I can’t see any Palace players doing too much for fantasy managers in this game, but then again Christian Benteke is in very good form at the moment.

I can’t see anything other than a comprehensive Liverpool victory in this game.

Prediction: 3-0

Manchester City v Everton

Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City lost 3-2 away to Brighton in midweek after playing with 10 men for 80 minutes and the chances are they will rest a lot of players with the Champions League final coming six days after this game. They have lost three of their last four home games and they conceded eight goals in those games, but no other team has taken more points or scored more goals at home. They have lost three of their last six games and they conceded 11 goals in those games, but no other team has scored more or conceded less goals.

With rotation probably at a premium for City in this game it’s impossible to know which players to opt for.

Everton won 1-0 at home to Wolves in midweek to keep their hopes of European football for next season alive. They have taken eight points from their last four away games and they didn’t concede any goals in those games with only three other teams taking more points away from home and no other team conceding less goals on the road. They have taken seven points from their last four games and they only conceded one goal in those games, but they only scored two and no other team in the top half of the table has scored less goals.

I’m not too sure there are any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers in this game.

Despite probably playing their “second” string I still think City will sign their domestic season off with a home win.

Prediction: 2-1

Sheffield United v Burnley

Bramall Lane, Sheffield

United lost 1-0 away to Newcastle in midweek and they will be the lowest scoring team since the inception of the Premier League if they fail to score in this game. They have lost five of their last seven home games with only Fulham taking less points and scoring less goals at home. They have lost eight of their last 10 games and they failed to score in seven of those games with no other team scoring less goals.

I can’t see any United players to interest fantasy managers in this game.

Burnley lost 3-0 at home to Liverpool in midweek and they’re only one place above the bottom three, but it doesn’t particularly matter as the relegation places are already decided. They have won their last two away games and they scored six goals in those games without conceding any. They have lost six of their last eight games though and they conceded 16 in those games with only two other teams scoring less goals.

Chris Wood could be the Burnley player to have in this game and their defenders and keeper can’t be ruled out either considering United have failed to score in 21 games.

I think this game could be fairly close, but the chances are Burnley will take the three points.

Prediction: 1-2

West Ham United v Southampton

London Stadium, London

West Ham won 3-1 away to West Brom in midweek and they will qualify for the Europa League if don’t lose this game. They have lost their last two home games without scoring a goal, but only three other teams have taken more points at home. They have only won two of their last six games and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 10 games.

Michail Antonio and Jessie Lingard could do well for fantasy managers in this game while Said Benrahma has done well in recent games.

Southampton lost 2-0 at home to Leeds in midweek and they can finish anywhere from 12th to 16th place depending on the result of this game and others. They have lost their last four away games and they conceded 12 goals in those games with only two other teams taking less points away from home. They have lost four of their last seven games and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 10 games with only West Brom conceding more goals.

Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse are the Southampton players who might perform for fantasy managers in this game.

I think West Ham will take the three points in this game and set themselves up for a European adventure next season.

Prediction: 2-1

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester United

Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton

Wolves lost 1-0 away to Everton in midweek and they will finish 12th if they win this game, but they could finish as low as 15th if they lose it. They have won two of their last three home games, but only the bottom four teams have scored less goals at home. They have lost three of their last five games and they failed to score in each of those defeats with only the bottom three clubs scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Wolves players who might make a difference for fantasy managers in this game.

United drew 1-1 at home to Fulham in midweek and that point was enough to guarantee them the runners up spot ahead of their Europa League final on Wednesday night. They will go through the whole season unbeaten away from home if they avoid defeat in this game and no other team has conceded less goals on their travels. They have only taken one point from their last three games and they conceded seven goals in those games, but only City have scored more goals.

The chances are United will rest a lot of players for this game as it’s so close to the Europa League final so it’s probably not a good idea for fantasy managers to opt for their players.

I think United will want to keep their unbeaten away record intact and that should see them take a point in this game despite a depleted lineup.

Prediction: 1-1

That’s it for this week and season.

See you soon.
