Newcastle United v Aston Villa
8pm GMT, St. James’s Park, Newcastle
Newcastle drew 0-0 away to West Brom last week and they’re now only one point above the relegation zone with worse goal difference than the two teams directly below them. They have taken four points from their last two home games after failing to win the previous five, but only West Brom have conceded more goals at home. They haven’t won in four games and they face crucial trips to both Brighton and Burnley in the next few weeks.
I can’t see any Newcastle players to interest fantasy managers at the moment.
Villa drew 0-0 at home to Wolves last week to leave them in ninth place, but they still have games in hand on all of the teams above them. They have taken seven points from their last four away games and they only conceded one goal in those games with only City conceding less goals on their travels. They have only won once in their last five games and they have only scored two goals in those games as they continue to struggle without Jack Grealish.
With Grealish still on the injured list it looks Emiliano Martinez is the Villa player to have for fantasy managers with all of their defenders and Ollie Watkins worth considering too.
I think there won’t be too much between these two teams, but the chances are Villa will take the three points.
Prediction: 0-1
Saturday March 13
Leeds United v Chelsea
12.30pm GMT, Elland Road, Leeds
Leeds lost 2-0 away to West Ham last week to stay in 11th place, but the teams behind them are closing in quickly. They have won two of their last three home games, but only the bottom three teams have lost more games at home. They have lost four of their last five games and they failed to score in three of those games with only three other teams conceding more goals.
Leeds players haven’t done too much for fantasy managers in recent weeks, but Raphinha, Patrick Bamford and Stuart Dallas are all still worth considering.
Chelsea won 2-0 at home to Everton last week and they’re now only four points off second place. They have taken 10 points from their last four away games and they only conceded two goals in those games. They have taken 21 points from their last nine games and they only conceded two goals in those games with only City conceding less goals.
Chelsea’s defenders and keeper are in great form for fantasy managers at the moment and Mason Mount is doing pretty well too.
I think Chelsea should continue their progress with another narrow victory in this game.
Prediction: 0-2
Crystal Palace v West Bromwich Albion
3pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London
Palace lost 4-1 away to Spurs last week, but they should be safe for another season with eight points to spare over the bottom three. They have only taken two points from their last three home games and they failed to score in all of those games with only three other teams conceding more goals at home. They have only won once in their last six games and only West Brom and Southampton have conceded more goals.
With Wilfried Zaha back from injury he’s the only Palace player for fantasy managers to even consider.
West Brom drew 0-0 at home to Newcastle last week and they’re eight points from safety with only 10 games left to play. They have only taken one point from their last four away games and only Sheffield United have taken less points on the road. They have only won once in their last 10 games and they’ve only scored two goals in their last six games with no other team conceding more goals.
I can’t see any West Brom players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment even if their defenders and keeper have done well in recent weeks.
I think this is a very hard game to call and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended in a draw.
Prediction: 1-1
Everton v Burnley
5.30pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool
Everton lost 2-0 away to Chelsea last week, but they’re still only four points off the top four with at least one game in hand on all of the top four. They won their last home game after failing to win the previous six with only four other teams conceding more goals at home. They had won three games in a row without conceding a goal before losing to Chelsea and their next three games are all against teams towards the wrong end of the table.
Richarlison and Lucas Digne are the Everton players most likely to make an impression for fantasy managers at the moment.
Burnley drew 1-1 at home to Arsenal last week and they’re now only four points above the relegation zone. Only two other teams have taken less points away from home and only Sheffield United have scored less goals on their travels. They have only won once in their last nine games and only Sheffield United have scored less goals.
Burnley’s defenders and keeper had being doing well for fantasy managers until a few weeks ago, but I’m not so sure they’re a good idea at the moment.
I think Everton should put the disappointment of their defeat to Chelsea behind them with a victory in this game.
Prediction: 2-1
Fulham v Manchester City
8pm GMT, Craven Cottage, London
Fulham won 1-0 away to Liverpool last week and they’re now only in the bottom three on goal difference. They have only won once in their last 10 home games and they have failed to score in six of their last eight games on their own patch with no other team scoring less home goals. They have taken 11 points from their last six games and they have only conceded two goals in their last seven games with no other team in the bottom half of the table conceding less goals.
Fulham’s defenders and keeper have all done very well in recent weeks, but they could struggle in this game.
City’s fantastic winning streak came to an end last week when they lost 2-0 at home to United, but they bounced back to win 5-2 at home to Southampton in midweek. They have won their last seven away games and no other team has conceded less goals away from home. They have won 16 of their last 17 games with no other team scoring more or conceding less goals.
Kevin de Bruyne is back and he has to be the best of the City players for fantasy managers while Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan are very good choices too.
I think Fulham will give City a very tough game, but the chances are City will win by a couple of goals.
Prediction: 0-2
Sunday March 14
Southampton v Brighton And Hove Albion
12pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton
Southampton put an end to their awful run of results with a 2-0 win away to Sheffield United last week, but they lost 5-2 away to Southampton on Wednesday night. They have only taken one point from their last four home games and six of their next eight games are at home after playing their last four games on the road. They have only taken four points from their last 11 games and they’re only seven points above the bottom three with only West Brom conceding more goals.
With Danny Ings injured it could mean Che Adams is a good choice for fantasy managers while James Ward-Prowse is a pretty good option too.
Brighton lost 2-1 at home to Leicester last week and they’re now only above the relegation zone on goal difference. They have taken seven points from their last four away games and they have taken more points away from home than they have at home. They have lost their last three games and they need to get something from their next two games before their fixtures become very tough.
Brighton’s defenders and keeper have done quite well recently for fantasy managers with Lewis Dunk probably the pick of them.
I think this will be another very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw too.
Prediction: 1-1
Leicester City v Sheffield United
2pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester
Leicester came from behind to win 2-1 away to Brighton last week and they’re only one point behind second placed United. They have lost two of their last three home games and they have taken an awful lot more points away from home than they have at home. They have taken 14 points from their last seven games, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet in five games.
With their best performers injured it’s not easy to see which Leicester players to recommend to fantasy managers, but Kelechi Iheanacho has scored in his last two games.
United lost 2-0 at home to Southampton last week to bring their inevitable relegation one step closer. They have lost five of their last six away games and they failed to score in each of those defeats with no other team scoring less goals on their travels. They have lost five of their last six games and they failed to score in four of their last five with no other team scoring less goals.
I can’t see any United players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Leicester will strengthen their grip on a top four spot by taking the three points in this game.
Prediction: 2-0
Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur
4.30pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal drew 1-1 away to Burnley last week and they’re in 10th place seven points behind Spurs going into this game. They have only lost one of their last seven home games and only two other teams have conceded less goals at home. They have only won two of their last seven games and their next three games are all against teams above them.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the Arsenal player to have for fantasy managers at the moment and Willian has being doing well recently too.
Spurs won 4-1 at home to Palace last week and they’re only five points off the top four with a game in hand. They had lost three away games in a row before winning their last away game at Fulham. They have won their last three games and they scored nine goals in those games with only three other teams conceding less goals.
Harry Kane has become a must have for fantasy managers in recent weeks while Gareth Bale and Heung-Min Son have done quite well too.
This is a big game for these fierce rivals and I think Arsenal should make home advantage count with a narrow victory.
Prediction: 2-1
Manchester United v West Ham United
7.15pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester
United won 2-0 away to City last week, but they’re still 14 points behind them at the top of the table even if they do have a game in hand. They have taken 16 points from their last seven home games and they scored 25 goals in those games with only City scoring more goals at home. They are unbeaten in their last eight games and they kept clean sheets in five of those games with only City scoring more goals.
Bruno Fernandes is still the best of the United players for fantasy managers, but their defenders have done very well recently and Marcus Rashford is worth considering too.
West Ham won 2-0 at home to Leeds last week and they’re only two points off the top four with a game in hand on the three teams they hope to catch. They lost their last away game at City after taking 11 points from their previous five away games. They have taken 25 points from their last 11 games and they kept clean sheets in five of those games.
Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell are both doing very well for fantasy managers at the moment and so is Jessie Lingard, but he can’t play in this game.
I think West Ham will make a real game of this and the chances are it will end in a draw.
Prediction: 1-1
Monday March 15
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool
8pm GMT, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton
Wolves drew 0-0 away to Villa last week and they’re only three points off the top half of the table. They have taken seven points from their last three home games and they kept clean sheets in two of those games with only two other teams conceding less goals at home. They have only lost one of their last seven games, but they have two very tough games before they play five of the bottom six in a row.
Pedro Neto and Ruben Neves have done well recently for fantasy managers and the Wolves keeper and defenders haven’t done too badly either.
Liverpool lost 1-0 at home to Fulham last week and they’re now seven points off the top four. They have taken nine points from their last four away games with only Leicester and United scoring more goals on their travels. They have lost six of their last seven games and they failed to score in four of those games with no other team in the top half of the table conceding more goals.
I’m still of the opinion Mohamed Salah is a good choice for fantasy managers despite the recent evidence to the contrary.
Despite their awful current form I still think Liverpool are more than capable of winning this game and they probably will do just that.
Prediction: 1-2
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
