Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 14

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t do too well last week with only three correct outcomes and seven incorrect outcomes, but it was enough to keep me on top of my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

Saturday December 19

Crystal Palace v Liverpool

12.30pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London

Palace drew 1-1 away to West Ham in midweek and they’re only two points off the top half of the table. They have only won once in their last five home games with only Spurs and Burnley conceding less goals at home. They’re unbeaten since Wilfried Zaha returned from illness, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet since their opening game.

Zaha is the Palace player who can make a difference for fantasy managers.

Liverpool won 2-1 at home to Spurs on Wednesday night to move above them at the top of the table. They haven’t won in their last five away games, but they did draw four of those games and only West Brom and Sheffield United have conceded more goals on their travels. They’re unbeaten in nine games with no other team scoring more goals, but only six other teams have conceded more goals.

Mohamed Salah continues to be the Liverpool player of choice for fantasy managers while Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all good options too.

I think Palace will give Liverpool a tough game, but the points will probably go to the away team.

Prediction: 1-2

Southampton v Manchester City

3pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton drew 1-1 away to Arsenal on Wednesday night to move up to third place. Only Liverpool have taken more points at home with only Liverpool and Chelsea scoring more goals on their own patch. They have taken 24 points from their last 11 games with only Liverpool and Chelsea scoring more goals.

Danny Ings is still the best of the Southampton players for fantasy managers, but Che Adams, Theo Walcott, Jannik Vestergaard and Jan Bednarek are all good options too.

City could only draw 1-1 at home to struggling West Brom in midweek, but they’re still only four points off the top four with a game in hand on most of the teams above them. They have only won once in their last five away games with only Villa conceding less goals on the road, but only five other teams scoring less goals. They’re unbeaten in four games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games with no other team conceding less goals.

Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling are probably the best of the City players for fantasy managers while all of their defenders have done well recently and Sergio Aguero might just be back in contention too.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended all square.

Prediction: 1-1

Everton v Arsenal

5.30pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton won 2-0 away to Leicester in midweek to move within a point of the top four. They won their last home game against Chelsea after failing to win the previous three and only Liverpool and Chelsea have scored more goals at home. They have won their last two games without conceding a goal and both of those games were against teams above them.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still the Everton player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers.

Arsenal drew 1-1 at home to Southampton on Wednesday night, but they’re still in 15th place with no sign of improvement. They have only scored one goal in their last four away games with only Villa and City conceding less goals on their travels. They haven’t won in six games and they have only scored three goals in their last nine games with only three other teams scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Arsenal players who can make an impact for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think this will be another very close game with Arsenal just about taking the three points.

Prediction: 1-2

Newcastle United v Fulham

8pm GMT, St. James’ Park, Newcastle

Newcastle lost 5-2 away to Leeds on Wednesday night, but they’re still eight points above the bottom three. They have lost as many home games as they have won with only Leeds conceding more goals at home. They had won two games in a row before the defeat against Leeds and they have a very tough run of games after this one.

Callum Wilson is the only Newcastle player for fantasy managers to consider at the moment.

Fulham drew 0-0 at home to Brighton in midweek, but it wasn’t enough to move them out of the relegation zone. They have lost four of their six away games with only two other teams taking less points on their travels. They have taken five points from their last four games, but only three other teams have conceded more goals.

Ademola Lookman has done well recently for fantasy managers and he’s available at a very good price too.

I don’t think there will be too much between these two teams and the chances are the spoils will be shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Sunday December 20

Brighton And Hove Albion v Sheffield United

12pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton drew 0-0 away to Fulham in midweek, buy they’re now only two points above the bottom three. They’re one of only two teams without a home win and no other team has drawn more games at home. They have only won once in their last 11 games, but they have a great chance to get their first home win in this game.

I can’t see any Brighton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

United lost 3-2 at home to Manchester United on Thursday night and they’re now six points adrift at the foot of the table. They have lost all six of their away games so far and no other team has scored less goals away from home with only West Brom conceding more. They have lost their last eight games and they failed to score in four of those games with only Burnley scoring less goals and only West Brom conceding more.

I can’t see any United players who might make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think United will make a game of it, but Brighton will get three badly needed points in this game.

Prediction: 2-1

Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester City

2.15pm GMT, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Spurs lost 2-1 away to Liverpool on Wednesday night and that defeat saw them drop below Liverpool into second place. They have won their last three home games and they kept clean sheets in two of those games with no other team conceding less goals at home. The defeat against Liverpool was their first defeat in 12 games with no other team conceding less goals and only Liverpool and Chelsea scoring more.

Both Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane have done really well for fantasy managers and they well worth having.

Leicester lost 2-0 at home to Everton in midweek, but they’re still in the top four. They have won five of their six away games with only United scoring more goals on the road. They’re the only team who haven’t drawn a game so far which is why they are in the top four despite their five defeats.

Jamie Vardy is still the Leicester player of choice for fantasy managers while James Maddison has looked good recently too.

I think this is a game which could go either way and the chances are it will end in a draw.

Prediction: 2-2

Manchester United v Leeds United

4.30pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester

United came from behind to win 3-2 away to Sheffield United on Thursday night and they moved up to sixth place with a game in hand on all the teams above them. They have only won once in their six home games and only Burnley have scored less goals at home. They have taken 16 points from their last six games and they will have a real chance of doing well if they can sort out their home form.

Bruno Fernandes is still the best of the United players for fantasy managers and Marcus Rashford is pretty hard to ignore too.

Leeds won 5-2 at home to Newcastle on Wednesday night and they’re only three points off the top half of the table. They have won as many games as they have lost away from home and they will fancy their chances against a team who are struggling at home. They have lost four of their last seven games with only West Brom conceding more goals.

Patrick Bamford continues to impress for fantasy managers while Mateusz Klich, Jack Harrison, Stuart Dallas and Illan Meslier have done quite well too.

I think Leeds will give United a very tough game, but United will just about take the three points.

Prediction: 3-2

West Bromwich Albion v Aston Villa

7.15pm GMT, The Hawthorns, Birmingham

West Brom got a very good 1-1 draw away to City in midweek, but they’re still second last in the league. They have taken five of their seven points at home with only Leeds conceding more goals on their own patch. They have only taken one point in their last three games and they conceded eight goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals.

I still can’t see any West Brom players who might make a difference for fantasy managers.

Villa drew 0-0 at home to Burnley on Thursday night and they’re only one point off the top half of the table with two games in hand on most of the teams above them. They have won four of their five away games and no other team has conceded less goals on their travels. They have lost four of their last seven games with only Spurs and City conceding less goals.

Jack Grealish and Emiliano Martinez are the best of the Villa players for fantasy managers with Tyrone Mings doing pretty well too.

I think Villa will get Sam Allardyce’s tenure off to a bad start by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 1-2

Monday December 21

Burnley v Wolverhampton Wanderers

5.30pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley drew 0-0 away to Villa on Thursday night and they’re one point clear of the bottom three as well as only one point behind Brighton. They have taken four points from their last two home games after losing the previous three and no other team has scored or conceded less goals at home. They have taken nine points from their last six games and they kept clean sheets in four of those games, but no other team has scored less goals.

Nick Pope is looking like a better prospect for fantasy managers with each passing week while Charlie Taylor is a reasonably priced defender worth considering too.

Wolves came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Chelsea on Tuesday night which moved them into the top half of the table. They have won as many away games as they have lost and only two other teams have scored less goals on the road. They had lost their previous two games without scoring before they beat Chelsea and they have two very tough games after this one.

Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto look like they could be the Wolves players to have for fantasy managers while Raul Jiminez is injured.

I think this will be a low scoring game with Wolves probably winning by a single goal.

Prediction: 0-1

Chelsea v West Ham United

8pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea lost 2-1 away to Wolves in midweek and they dropped back to seventh place as a result of that defeat. Only two other teams have taken more points at home and only Liverpool have scored more home goals. They have lost their last two games after going unbeaten in the previous nine and only Liverpool have scored more goals.

Kurt Zouma and Ben Chilwell are the Chelsea players who have impressed for fantasy managers so far with Olivier Giroud doing well in recent weeks.

West Ham drew 1-1 at home to Palace on Wednesday night and they’re only three points off the top four. They have won two of their last three away games and only five other teams have won more away games. They have taken 13 points from their last six games and they don’t play any of the “big six” after this game until the end of January.

Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals have done very well for fantasy managers while some of West Ham’s defenders looked like good choices too.

I think this will be another very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
