It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I had a pretty good week last week with three perfect predictions, two correct outcomes and five incorrect outcomes which saw me move to the top of my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.
Pos. Player. Res. Cls. Exa. Slm. Pts.
- JamrockRover 9 19.5 15 5 48.5
- Always a Gooner 5 19.5 21 3 48.5
- Cole 9 15 18 4 46
- Gunnerdapper 11 12 18 3 44
- Derek 7 21 12 3 43
My fantasy team did very well too and I managed a significant move up in the overall standings for the second week in a row. I still have a long way to go to reach the heights of last season, but the use of my chips over the last two weeks has paid handsome dividends. With that in mind I’m considering using my triple captain on Erling Haaland at home to Burnley this week, but he is nursing a slight knock and there is a possibility he will not play so I will have to make my decision late.
Haaland was one of those to do well for me last week along with Trevoh Chalobah, Marcos Senesi, Antoine Semenyo, Mohamed Salah and Tijjani Reijnders, but I had hoped to get more than 10 points from using my bench boost chip. I have two free transfers this week and I’m considering holding them until next week when I can use three for a mini wildcard if needed. If that is the case I am considering selling Salah as he’s just not looking like enough value for his huge price at the moment.
Saturday September 27
Brentford v Manchester United
12.30pm BST, Gtech Community Stadium, London
Brentford lost 3-1 away to Fulham last week and they’re now only one place above the bottom three. All of their points so far have come at home, but their next four games on their own ground are all very difficult. They hack only taken one point from their last three games with only West Ham and Wolves conceding more goals.
I’m not sure there are any Brentford players doing enough to interest fantasy managers at the moment.
United won 2-1 at home to Chelsea last week thanks in part to playing against 10 men for most of the game, but they had a red card of their own too. They have only taken one point and scored one goal in two games away from home, but they will feel they have a good chance of getting something from this game. They have won two of their last three games, but they need to score more goals.
Bruno Fernandes is still the United player of choice for fantasy managers with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha worth considering too.
I think Brentford can make a game of it at home and can probably share the points with United.
Prediction: 1-1
Chelsea v Brighton And Hove Albion
3pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London
Chelsea lost 2-1 away to United last week after having their keeper sent off very early on and that defeat saw them drop to sixth place. They have taken four points from their first two home games and they’re one of three teams yet to concede a goal on their own patch. The defeat against United was their first defeat of the season and they have a fairly good run of games coming up with the exception of Liverpool next week.
Joao Pedro, Enzo Fernandez, Trevoh Chalobah and Moises Caicedo are the Chelsea players who should be of interest to fantasy managers.
Brighton led 2-0 at home to Spurs last week, but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw which put them in 14th place and only two points above the drop zone. They have lost both of their away games with only three other teams scoring less goals on their travels. They have only won once so far and they have a tough run of games coming up.
Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh are the Brighton players to watch for fantasy managers.
Brighton are never an easy team to beat and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them take a point off Chelsea in this game.
Prediction: 2-2
Crystal Palace v Liverpool
3pm BST, Selhurst Park, London
Palace won 2-1 away to West Ham last week to maintain their unbeaten start to the season and move up to fifth place. They have drawn both of their home games with only Villa scoring less goals on their own ground and only three other teams conceding less. They’re one of two teams still unbeaten with no other team conceding less goals.
The Palace defenders and keeper are doing well for fantasy managers while Ismaila Sarr (if he’s fit to play) and Jean-Philippe Mateta are good options too.
Liverpool won 2-1 at home to Everton last week to keep their perfect start to the season intact and move five points clear at the top of the table. They have won both of their away games, but three of their next four games on the road are very difficult. They are the only team still with a 100% record with no other team scoring more goals.
Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk are the Liverpool players to have for fantasy managers at the moment.
I think this will be a very close game, but Liverpool will be the only unbeaten team afterwards.
Prediction: 1-2
Leeds United v Bournemouth
3pm BST, Elland Road, Leeds
Leeds won 3-1 away to Wolves last week to leave themselves safely in mid table. They are still unbeaten at home with no other team conceding less goals on their own patch, but only Villa scoring less. The win against Wolves was very important for them, but they have failed to score in three of their five games with only three other teams scoring less goals.
Anton Stach and Dominic Calvert-Lewin might be of interest to fantasy managers while the Leeds defenders are looking good at home too.
Bournemouth drew 0-0 at home to Newcastle last week and they’re now in fourth place. They won their last away game at Spurs and will feel they have every chance of winning this game too. They have taken 10 points from their last four games and they only conceded one goal in those games.
Antoine Semenyo and Marcos Senesi are the best bets in the Bournemouth team for fantasy managers with Evanilson and the returning Justin Kluivert possibilities too.
I think Bournemouth should be strong enough to take the three points in this game.
Prediction: 0-2
Manchester City v Burnley
3pm BST, Etihad Stadium, Manchester
City conceded very late to draw 1-1 away to Arsenal last week which leaves them in ninth position. They won their last home game 3-0 against United and they have a good run of home games coming up starting with this one. They have only won once in their last four games, but they will be expected to win this game with a few goals to spare.
Erling Haaland is a must have for fantasy managers (if he’s fit to play) and a good choice for triple captain too with Tijjani Reijnders worth owning too.
Burnley drew 1-1 at home to Forest last week and that point was enough to keep them out of the relegation zone. They have had a very difficult start to their away games and this will be their hardest game on the road so far with only Brentford and Leeds conceding more away goals.
Jaidon Anthony has had a very good start to the season and he’s definitely an option for fantasy managers.
I can’t see anything other than a comfortable City victory in this game.
Prediction: 4-0
Nottingham Forest v Sunderland
5.30pm BST, City Ground, Nottingham
Forest drew 1-1 away to Burnley last week and they’re three points behind Sunderland going into this game. They lost their last home game against West Ham and they will be hopeful of putting that right in this game. They haven’t won in four games with only three other teams conceding more goals.
Chris Wood looks like he’s still the best bet in the Forest team for fantasy managers.
Sunderland drew 1-1 at home to Villa last week despite having a man sent off to keep themselves in the top half of the table. They have taken one point from their two away games, but they’re one of three teams yet to score on their travels. Their only defeat was against Burnley with only four other teams conceding less goals.
Wilson Isidor is the Sunderland player most likely to perform for fantasy managers while Robin Roefs is doing pretty well too.
I think Forest will just about get the better of a very close game.
Prediction: 2-1
Tottenham Hotspur v Wolverhampton Wanderers
8pm BST, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London
Spurs came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 away to Brighton last week and that point kept them in third place. They lost their last home game against Bournemouth, but only three other teams have conceded less goals on their own ground. They have a good run of games coming up with only Liverpool scoring more goals and only Arsenal and Palace conceding less.
Mohammed Kudus is the Spurs player looking very good for fantasy managers with their defenders and keeper performing well too.
Wolves lost 3-1 at home to Leeds last week to remain rooted to the foot of the table without a point. They lost both of their away games by the same 1-0 scoreline with no other team scoring less goals on the road. They are the only team to have lost all of their games with only West Ham conceding more goals and only Villa scoring less.
I can’t see any Wolves players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Spurs should win this game with a few goals to spare.
Prediction: 3-0
Sunday September 28
Aston Villa v Fulham
2pm BST, Villa Park, Birmingham
Villa drew 1-1 away to Sunderland last week, but they’re still only two places above the foot of the table. They have taken one point from their two home games and they’re the only team not to have scored on their own patch. They haven’t won a game yet and they only scored their first goal last week with no other team scoring less goals.
None of the Villa players are looking good for fantasy managers at the moment, but surely it’s just a matter of time before Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers come good.
Fulham won 3-1 at home to Brentford last week and that win moved them into the top half of the table. They were very unlucky in their last away game against Chelsea, but only three other teams have scored less goals on their travels. They have won their last two games after failing to win in the first three.
Alex Iwobi and Joachim Andersen are the Fulham players for fantasy managers to consider.
I think this will be a very close game with the points probably being shared.
Prediction: 1-1
Newcastle United v Arsenal
4.30pm BST, St. James’s Park, Newcastle
Newcastle drew 0-0 away to Bournemouth last week to make it six points from their first five games. Their only win so far came in their last home game and three of their next four games are on their own ground. They have kept clean sheets in four of their five games, but they failed to score in three of them with only Villa scoring less goals.
Newcastle’s defenders and keeper are in great form for fantasy managers, but none of their attacking players have hit any form just yet.
Arsenal scored very late to draw 1-1 at home to City last week and that point was enough to keep them in second place. Their only defeat so far came away to Liverpool, but only three other teams have scored less goals on the road. They have had a tough run of games to start the season, but their fixtures improve after this game and only Liverpool have scored more goals with no other team conceding less.
Arsenal’s defenders and keeper are very good choices for fantasy managers along with Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyokeres.
This looks like being a very close game with Arsenal probably just about taking the three points.
Prediction: 1-2
Monday September 29
Everton v West Ham United
8pm BST, Bill Dickinson Stadium, Liverpool
Everton lost 2-1 away to Liverpool last week, but they’re still in the top half of the table on goal difference. They have taken four points from their first two home games with no other teams conceding less goals on their own patch. This is a big game for them as it gives them a chance to put themselves in a strong position ahead of a tough run of games.
Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish are the Everton players to have for fantasy managers with Jordan Pickford and James Tarkowski possibilities too.
West Ham lost 2-1 at home to Palace last week and they are just one place above the bottom of the table. Their only points so far came away to Forest and they travel to Arsenal next week. They have lost four of their five games with no other team conceding more goals.
Despite West Ham’s poor form Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and El Hadji Malick Diouf can still do well for fantasy managers.
I think Everton should be good enough to take the three points in this game.
Prediction: 2-1
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
