My choice of Erling Haaland as my fantasy captain paid off last week and his contribution helped to move me up to my highest overall ranking of the season for the third week in a row. Haaland was ably assisted by almost all of my squad as I used my bench boost to full effect for my highest weekly score and rank of the season. Hopefully I can continue that trend this week and finish the season in a fairly respectable position.
If I’m going to do so I need to get the right players in my team this week and those with something to play for on the final day must surely be good choices. My squad is looking quite strong already with plenty of players from City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle who all still have something to play for plus some Spurs players who play away to the worst defence the Premier League has ever seen. My captaincy choice could be crucial and I just can’t see past Haaland at home to Wolves with City needing a win to clinch the title.
Sunday May 19
All games kick off at 4pm
Arsenal v Everton
Arsenal won 1-0 away to United last week, but their title hopes took a huge blow when City won their game in hand to move to the top of the table with just one game left to play. Only Liverpool have taken more points at home and no other team has conceded less goals on their own ground. They have taken 46 points from their last 17 games and they scored 52 goals in those games with no other team conceding less goals and only City scoring more.
Just about any of the Arsenal players who will play can make a real difference for fantasy managers this week.
Everton won 1-0 at home to Sheffield United last week and they will finish comfortably above the bottom three despite their eight point deduction. They haven’t won in their last 10 away games and they conceded 20 goals in those games with only Sheffield United scoring less goals on the road. They have taken 15 points from their last seven games and they kept clean sheets in five of them, but those five games were all at home with only Sheffield United scoring less goals and only the top three conceding less.
Everton’s defenders and keeper have done very well recently for fantasy managers, but that might not be the case in this game.
I think Arsenal will see out their season in style with a win in this game, but it won’t be enough to stop City winning the league.
Prediction: 3-0
Brentford v Newcastle United
Brentford won 2-1 away to Bournemouth last week and they can still move up one more place in the table if they win this game and Everton don’t win theirs. They are unbeaten in five home games, but they drew four of them and they kept clean sheets in each of their last three games on their own patch. They have only lost one of their last eight games, but they drew four of them and they only conceded six goals in those games.
Bryan Mbeumo is the Brentford player most likely to perform for fantasy managers in this game.
Newcastle drew 1-1 at home to Brighton and then lost 3-2 away to United last week and it looks like they will have to win this game just to qualify for the European Conference League next season. They have lost four of their last six away games with only three other teams conceding more goals on their travels. They only took one point from their two games last week when all six points would have left them in control of the race for sixth place and only the top three have scored more goals.
Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak are the Newcastle players to have in this game if they’re going to get the victory they need.
I think Brentford will push Newcastle all the way, but Newcastle will narrowly take the points.
Prediction: 1-2
Brighton And Hove Albion v Manchester United
Brighton drew 1-1 away to Newcastle and lost 2-1 at home to Chelsea last week and that was enough to move them back into the top half of the table on goal difference. They have lost three of their last four home games after being unbeaten in the previous 12 and they only scored two goals in those four games. They have only won once in their last nine games and no other team in the top half of the table has scored less goals.
If Brighton are going to finish their season well the likes of Pascal Gross and Jaoa Pedro might be of interest to fantasy managers.
United lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal and then won 3-2 at home to Newcastle last week to keep their hopes of some form of European football next season alive. They have only taken two points from their last five awsy games and they conceded 14 goals in those games with no other team in the top half of the table scoring less goals on the road. The win against Newcastle was only their second win in nine games and it looks like they might have to win the FA Cup final if they want to play in Europe next season.
Bruno Fernandes remains by far the best of the United players for fantasy managers to consider.
I think Brighton might just take advantage of the turmoil at United by taking the three points in this game.
Prediction: 2-1
Burnley v Nottingham Forest
Burnley lost 2-1 away to Spurs last week and that defeat confirmed their relegation. No other team has taken less points or scored less goals on their own patch. They have only won two of their last 19 games and they didn’t keep a clean sheet in any of those games with only Sheffield United scoring less goals.
I can’t see any Burnley players for fantasy managers to seriously consider in this game.
Forest lost 3-2 at home to Chelsea last week and they will avoid relegation even if they lose this game unless Luton can win and turn around a 12 goal gap in goal difference. They won their last away game after only taking two points from the previous seven with only two other teams scoring less goals on their travels. They have only won two of their last 12 games and they didn’t keep a clean sheet in any of those games with only three other teams scoring less goals.
Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi are the in form Forest players who could possibly do well for fantasy managers
It’s hard to know which way this game will go, but the chances are Forest will take all three points.
Prediction: 1-2
Chelsea v Bournemouth
Chelsea won 3-2 away to Forest and 2-1 away to Brighton last week and those two wins moved them up to sixth place. They have taken 16 points from their last six home games and they scored 22 goals in those games. They have won their last four games and they scored 12 goals in those games and the season is probably ending too soon for them.
Cole Palmer is a must have for fantasy managers this week with Nicolas Jackson a very good option too.
Bournemouth lost 2-1 at home to Brentford last week and that defeat saw them drop into the bottom half of the table on goal difference. They have lost three of their last four away games and they conceded eight goals in those games with only four other teams conceding more goals on the road. They have lost four of their last seven games, but they can still finish in the top half of the table if they get something from this game.
Dominic Solanke is the best of the Bournemouth players for fantasy managers to look at this week.
I think Chelsea should continue their impressive form with another win in this game.
Prediction: 3-1
Crystal Palace v Aston Villa
Palace won 3-1 away to Wolves last week and there’s a very good chance they will move into the top half of the table if they win this game. They have won their last three home games and they scored 11 goals in those games. They have taken 16 points and scored 16 goals in their last six games and they probably would prefer if the season lasted a little longer.
Michael Olise, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eberechi Eze are all in very good form for fantasy managers at the moment.
Villa drew 3-3 away to Liverpool last week and that win was enough to see them finish in the top four when Spurs lost to City. They have only won once in their last four away games, but only the top three have won more games on their travels. They have only taken two points from their last three games, but it was enough to get them Champions League football.
Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey are probably the Villa players fantasy managers should be considering this week.
I think Palace will continue their impressive form with the three points in this game.
Prediction: 3-1
Liverpool v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Liverpool drew 3-3 away to Villa last week and they will be looking to say farewell to Jurgen Klopp with a top quality display in his last game as their manager. They have only lost one home game this season and no other team has taken more points on their own ground. They have only won two of their last seven games and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 10 games and it’s that defensive record which ruled them out of the title race.
Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz could be the Liverpool players to make a difference for fantasy managers this week.
Wolves lost 3-1 at home to Palace last week, but they can still finish in the top half of the table if they win this game and other results go their way. They have only taken two points in their last five away games and they conceded 13 goals in those games. They have lost four of their last five games and they conceded 12 goals in those games.
Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan have both done enough since their return from injury to suggest they can do well in this game.
I think Liverpool will get the result and performance they want on what promises to be a very emotional day for them.
Prediction: 3-1
Luton Town v Fulham
Luton lost 3-1 away to West Ham last week and that defeat almost certainly confirmed their relegation barring a miracle. They have only won once in their last seven home games and no other team has conceded more goals on their own patch. They have only won once in their last 16 games with only Sheffield United conceding more goals.
Elijah Adebayo could be the Luton player to do well for fantasy managers this week.
Fulham lost 4-0 at home to City last week and that defeat meant they can no longer finish in the top half of the table. They have taken four points from their last two away games and they didn’t concede any goals in those games, but only two other teams have scored less goals on their travels. They have only won once in their last eight games and they conceded 15 goals in those games.
Rodrigo Muniz and Andreas Pereira could be the Fulham players to do well for fantasy managers in this game.
I think Fulham might just manage to get the better of Luton in a very close game.
Prediction: 1-2
Manchester City v West Ham United
City won 4-0 away to Fulham and 2-0 away to Spurs last week to move to the top of the table and they will retain their crown if they win this game regardless of how Arsenal fare. They’re the only team still unbeaten at home with only Newcastle scoring more goals on their own ground and no other team conceding less. They have won their last eight games and they scored 30 goals in those games with no other team scoring more goals and only Arsenal conceding less.
Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne are all great choices for fantasy managers this week with all of their defenders and keeper worth having too.
West Ham won 3-1 at home to Luton last week and that result meant they will finish in ninth place no matter what. They have lost three of their last four away games and they conceded 15 goals in those games with only three other teams conceding more goals on the road. They have only won two of their last 10 games and they conceded 24 goals in those games with only the bottom three conceding more goals.
I can’t see any West Ham players who might make an impression for fantasy managers in this game.
I can’t see anything other than a comprehensive City victory in this game.
Prediction: 4-0
Sheffield United v Tottenham Hotspur
United lost 1-0 away to Everton last week and they have only had their pride left to play for over the last few weeks. They haven’t won in their last nine home games and they conceded 33 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals on their own patch and only Burnley scoring less. They have only taken three points from their last 13 games and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 21 games with no other team scoring less or conceding more goals.
Gustavo Hamer and Ben Brereton Diaz have both done well recently for fantasy managers.
Spurs won 2-1 at home to Burnley and lost 2-0 at home to City last week and they will finish fifth as long as they don’t lose this game. They have only taken one point from their last five away games and they conceded 14 goals in those games. They have lost five of their last six games and they conceded 16 goals in those games.
Son Heung-Min could be the Spurs player to succeed for fantasy managers as he plays against the worst defence in the history of the Premier League.
I think Spurs should win this game with at least a couple of goals to spare.
Prediction: 1-3
That’s it for this week.
See you next season.
