Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 23

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t have a great week last week with one perfect prediction, four correct outcomes and five incorrect outcomes which left me still in fifth place in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

My choice of Diogo Jota as my captain paid off again this week and he was ably supported by Bernd Leno, Vitalii Mykolenko, Bukayo Saka, Dominic Solanke, Ollie Watkins and Matheus Cunha as my team climbed in the rankings for the seventh time in eight weeks. I’m not sure who I will opt for as my captain this week, but I’m almost certain to bring Erling Haaland back into my team and he’s the most obvious choice.

I brought Pervis Estupinan into my squad last week and it didn’t pay off, but I am expecting good things from him going forward. Other players to consider bringing in over the next few weeks could be Pedro Porro, Pedro Neto, Ivan Toney and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Saturday February 3

Everton v Tottenham Hotspur

12.30pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton drew 0-0 away to Fulham in midweek, but that point wasn’t enough to stop them dropping into the relegation zone. They have only taken one point from their last two home games and no other team has scored less goals on their own ground. They have only taken two points from their last five games and they have failed to score in their last three with only the two teams below them scoring less goals.

I’m not sure there are any Everton players who can make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

Spurs came back from 1-0 down to win 3-2 at home to Brentford on Wednesday night and that win moved them into the top four ahead of Aston Villa on goals scored. They have only won once in their last five away games and they conceded 11 goals in those games with no other team scoring more goals on the road. They have taken 16 points from their last seven games and they scored 18 goals in those games with only the top two scoring more goals.

There are quite a few Spurs players for fantasy managers to select from at the moment with Richarlison, James Maddison and Pedro Porro probably the best of them.

This is a game which could go either way and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Brighton And Hove Albion v Crystal Palace

3pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton lost 4-0 away to Luton on Tuesday night and that defeat saw them drop to ninth place. They are unbeaten in nine home games, but they drew five of them with no other team drawing more games on their own patch. They have only won once in their last seven games, but they drew four of them with no other team drawing more games.

If Brighton are going to put their result against Luton behind them Pervis Estupinan and Joao Pedro could do well for fantasy managers.

Palace twice came back from behind to win 3-2 at home to Sheffield United in midweek and that win moved them six points clear of the relegation zone. They have only taken two points from their last five away games with only two other teams scoring less goals on their travels. They have won two of their last three games after failing to win the previous eight.

I suggested Eberechi Eze could do well for fantasy managers in midweek and he proved me right which probably makes him a good choice along with Michael Olise.

I think this will be a close game with Brighton probably taking the three points narrowly.

Prediction: 2-1

Burnley v Fulham

3pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley lost 3-1 away to City in midweek to leave them one place and two points off the foot of the table. No other team has taken less points or scored less goals at home with only Sheffield United conceding more goals on their own ground. They have only taken one point from their last four games and they conceded nine goals in those games with only Sheffield United scoring less and conceding more goals.

Zeki Amdouni is the Burnley player who could possibly be of interest to fantasy managers.

Fulham drew 0-0 at home to Everton on Tuesday night to leave them seven points above the bottom three. They have lost their last five away games and they conceded 14 goals in those games with only Sheffield United conceding more goals on the road. They have only taken four points from their last six games and they failed to score in five of them.

Bernd Leno has been the most consistent Fulham player for fantasy managers and he could prove to be so again in this game.

I think this will be a very close game with a draw being the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Newcastle United v Luton Town

3pm GMT, St. James’ Park, Newcastle

Newcastle put their away day blues behind them in midweek with a 3-1 win at Villa to move back up to eighth place. They have lost their last two home games after winning the previous seven with only four other teams scoring more goals on their own patch. They had lost four games in a row before beating Villa and they conceded 11 goals in those four defeats.

Despite not returning for fantasy managers during the week Anthony Gordon is still a good option.

Luton won 4-0 at home to Brighton on Tuesday night and that win was enough to see them climb out of the bottom three. They have taken four points from their last two away games, but only two other teams have scored less goals on their travels. They have taken 10 points from their last five games and they scored 11 goals in those games.

Alfie Doughty and Elijah Adebayo have both done enough recently to peak the interest of fantasy managers.

I think Newcastle should have enough at home to win this game with a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 3-1

Sheffield United v Aston Villa

5.30pm GMT, Bramall Lane, Sheffield

United led twice away to Palace on Tuesday night, but they ended up losing 3-2 which left them rooted to the foot of the table. They have taken five points from their last four home games, but only Burnley have taken less points on their own ground. They have only taken two points from their last six games with no other team scoring less or conceding more goals.

James McAtee and Rob Brerton Diaz have both looked like possibilities for fantasy managers recently.

Villa lost 3-1 at home to Newcastle in midweek and that defeat saw them drop out of the top four. They have only taken one point from their last two away games, but their next three away games are against teams at the wrong end of the table. They have only won once in their last five games, but only three other teams have scored more goals.

Ollie Watkins, Douglas Luiz and Leon Bailey are all capable of doing a very good job for fantasy managers.

I think Villa will bounce back from their defeat to Newcastle with a narrow victory in this game.

Prediction: 1-2

Sunday February 4

Bournemouth v Nottingham Forest

2pm GMT, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth

Bournemouth drew 1-1 away to West Ham on Thursday night to keep themselves in twelfth place. They lost their last home game after taking 10 points in the previous four games, but no other team has scored less goals on their own patch. They have only taken one point from their last three games and they conceded eight goals in those games with only the bottom two conceding more goals.

Dominic Solanke remains the Bournemouth player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers.

Forest lost 2-1 at home to Arsenal on Tuesday night and they’re now only two points above the relegation zone. They have only won once in their last eight away games and they could do with getting something from this game. They have lost eight of their last 11 games with only the bottom two conceding more goals.

With Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Elanga back from injury they’re the Forest players who could make an impression for fantasy managers.

I don’t think there will be too much between these two teams with Bournemouth probably taking all three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Chelsea v Wolverhampton Wanderers

2pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea lost 4-1 away to Liverpool on Wednesday night, but they managed to stay in the top half of the table. They have won their last four home games after only winning one of their previous seven. They had won three games in a row before losing to Liverpool and Brighton are the only team in the top half of the table to have conceded more goals.

Cole Palmer is still the best choice among the Chelsea players for fantasy managers.

Wolves lost 4-3 at home to United on Thursday night thanks to a very late goal and that defeat kept them in the bottom half of the table. They have taken four points from their last three away games after losing the previous four and they have a tough run of away games coming up. They had taken 10 points from four games before losing to United and they will go ahead of Chelsea if they win this game.

Matheus Cunha and Pedro Neto are the Wolves players for fantasy managers to own at the moment.

I have a feeling Wolves can cause Chelsea some real problems in this game and they might just get a narrow win.

Prediction: 1-2

Manchester United v West Ham United

2pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester

United got a very late goal to win 4-3 away to Wolves on Thursday night and that win moved them up to seventh place, but they still have eight points to make up on the top four. They have only won once in their last three home games and they conceded seven goals in those games with only four other teams scoring less goals on their own ground. The win against Wolves was only their second win in seven games, but they have a good run of games coming up.

If he’s fit to play Marcus Rashford has been in good form recently for fantasy managers while Rasmus Hojlund might just be worth considering too.

West Ham came from behind to draw 1-1 at home to Bournemouth in midweek and they’re one place and one point ahead of United going into this game. They have taken 10 points from their last five away games, but only six other teams have conceded more goals on the road. They have only lost once in their last 11 games and they have kept clean sheets in four of their last six.

Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus are the West Ham players most likely to return points for fantasy managers.

This is another game which could go either way and the chances are United will just shade it.

Prediction: 2-1

Arsenal v Liverpool

4.30pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal won 2-1 away to Forest on Tuesday night to stay in third place five points behind Liverpool going into this game. Only Liverpool and Villa have taken more points and scored more goals at home and only Liverpool have conceded less goals. They have won their last two games after only taking one point in the previous three and this a game they really have to win.

Bukayo Saka remains the biggest attacking threat in the Arsenal team and he’s probably the best bet for fantasy managers in this game.

Liverpool won 4-1 at home to Chelsea on Wednesday night to maintain their five point lead at the top of the table. They have won their last four away games and they only conceded one goal in those games with no other team taking more points or conceding less goals on their travels. They have won their last four games and they scored 14 goals in those games with no other team scoring more or conceding less goals.

Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez are both in fine form for fantasy managers at the moment.

This is a game which could go either way, but I think a draw is probably the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 2-2

Monday February 5

Brentford v Manchester City

8pm GMT, Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford

Brentford lost 3-2 away to Spurs on Wednesday night after taking an early lead and they’re now only four points above the bottom three. They won their last home game after losing the previous two with only two other teams conceding more goals on their own patch. They have lost six of their last seven games and they conceded 17 goals in those games.

Ivan Toney and Neal Maupay are both in very good form for fantasy managers at the moment.

City won 3-1 at home to Burnley in midweek and that win kept them in second place five points behind Liverpool with a game in hand. They have won their last three away games and they scored eight goals in those games with no other team taking more points or scoring more goals on the road. They have taken 16 points from their last six games and they scored 15 goals in those games with no other team scoring more goals.

Erling Haaland should be back from the start which would make him a must have for fantasy managers with Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez good options too.

I can’t see anything other than a victory for City in this game, but Brentford might have their moments.

Prediction: 1-3

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
