My choice of Erling Haaland as my captain paid off with his two assists on Sunday and he was helped by Mohamed Salah, Bukayo Saka, Ollie Watkins, Kieran Tripper and Konstantinos Tsimikas, but my team still dropped ever so slightly in the standings. I think I have to bring Anthony Gordon in this week and surely I will start to climb in the rankings again very soon.
I’ll probably make Salah my captain this week as Liverpool’s trip to Sheffield United could be a goal fest considering how many goals United have conceded so far. Haaland is the other option, but I think Salah has the better fixture and City could find a trip to Villa difficult. The toughest thing at the moment is trying to find defenders who can consistently score points and it’s something I’m not doing too well at.
Tuesday December 5
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Burnley
7.30pm GMT, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton
Wolves lost 2-1 away to Arsenal on Saturday, but they remained in 13th place in the table. They have taken eight points from their last four home games and those four teams are all in the top six. They have lost three of their last four games, but their next two games are at home to teams below them in the table.
Hwang Hee-Chan and Matheus Cunha are the Wolves players who could do well for fantasy managers in the next few weeks.
Burnley eventually managed their first home points of the season at the weekend when they won 5-0 against Sheffield United. They have lost their last three away games with only Sheffield United scoring less goals on the road. They had lost six games in a row before beating Sheffield United, but they’re now only two points off 17th place.
Luca Koleosho is probably the Burnley player most likely to do well for fantasy managers at the moment.
I don’t think there will be too much between these two teams, but Wolves will most likely win.
Prediction: 2-1
Luton Town v Arsenal
8.15pm GMT, Kenilworth Road, Luton
Luton lost 3-1 away to Brentford on Saturday, but they still managed to stay two points above the relegation zone. They have taken four points from their last two home games after only taking one in the previous four with only Everton scoring less goals on their own ground. With three of the top six in their next four games they have a tough run of games coming up and only Sheffield United have scored less goals.
I’m not sure there are any Luton players doing enough to interest fantasy managers at the moment.
Arsenal won 2-1 at home to Wolves at the weekend to increase their lead at the top of the table to two points. They have taken 13 points from their six away games and they kept clean sheets in four of them with no other team conceding less goals on their travels. They have won their last three games and no other team has conceded less goals, but they have three very tough games in a row after this one.
Bukayo Saka is the must have Arsenal player for fantasy managers with their defenders and keeper very good choices too.
I think Luton won’t be an easy proposition for Arsenal, but Arsenal will take all three points.
Prediction: 0-2
Wednesday December 6
Brighton And Hove Albion v Brentford
7.30pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Brighton lost 3-2 away to Chelsea on Sunday and they are now eight points off the top four. They have drawn their last three home games with no other team drawing more games on their own ground. They have only won once in their last eight games and they haven’t kept a clean sheet yet this season with no other team drawing more games.
With so many injured players at the moment it’s not easy choosing a Brighton player for fantasy managers, but Joao Pedro and Kaoru Mitoma are both worth considering.
Brentford won 3-1 at home to Luton on Saturday and they’re only outside the top half of the table because Chelsea have scored more goals than them. They have only won once in their last five away games, but only Arsenal have conceded less goals on the road. They have won four of their last six games and they play two of the teams above them in their next three games before they have no game in gameweek 18.
Bryan Mbeumo is the Brentford player who has consistently returned points for fantasy managers this season.
I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the spoils shared.
Prediction: 2-2
Crystal Palace v Bournemouth
7.30pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London
Palace drew 1-1 away to West Ham on Sunday and they’re now three points off the top half of the table. They have only won once at home so far with only Everton scoring less goals on their own patch. They have lost four of their last six games with no other team drawing more games and only Sheffield United and Luton scoring less goals.
I’m not sure there are any Palace players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
Bournemouth drew 2-2 at home to Villa at the weekend and they’re now six points clear of the relegation zone. They won their last away game after falling to win the previous five with only Sheffield United conceding more goals on their travels. They have taken 10 points from their last five games after failing to win the previous nine and only the bottom two have conceded more goals.
Dominic Solanke is the Bournemouth player who has impressed for fantasy managers so far this season.
I think this will be a close game with Palace more than likely getting a badly needed home win.
Prediction: 2-1
Fulham v Nottingham Forest
7.30pm GMT, Craven Cottage, London
Fulham conceded two late goals to lose 4-3 away to Liverpool on Sunday, but they’re still a lot closer to the top half of the table than they are to the bottom three. They have lost as many games as they have won at home with only three other teams scoring less goals on their own ground. They have only won once in their last six games and they conceded 13 goals in those games.
I’m not sure there are any Fulham players doing enough to interest fantasy managers.
Forest lost 1-0 at home to Everton on Saturday, but they’re only two points behind Fulham going into this game. They have only taken one point from their last four away games and only two other teams have scored less points on the road. They have lost their last three games and only won once in their last 10 which has put Steve Cooper under a lot of pressure.
Forest players aren’t exactly setting the world alight for fantasy managers at the moment.
I think this will be a very close game with a draw being the most likely outcome.
Prediction: 1-1
Sheffield United v Liverpool
7.30pm GMT, Bramall Lane, Sheffield
United lost 5-0 away to Burnley on Saturday to move them back to the foot of the table. They have lost five of their seven home games with only Burnley conceding more goals on their own ground. No other team has lost more games, scored less or conceded more goals and this game could go very badly for them.
I can’t see any United players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
Liverpool left it late, but managed to win 4-3 at home to Fulham on Saturday and that win moved them up to second place. They haven’t won in their last four away games, but they drew three of them and no other team has drawn more games on their travels. They have taken 14 points from their last six games with only Arsenal conceding less goals and only City and Villa scoring more.
Mohamed Salah is an absolute must have for fantasy managers at the moment while Trent Alexander-Arnold is in very good form too.
I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Liverpool victory in this game.
Prediction: 0-4
Aston Villa v Manchester City
8.15pm GMT, Villa Park, Birmingham
Villa got a very late goal to draw 2-2 away to Bournemouth on Sunday, but they’re only four points off the top of the table. They’re one of two teams still with a 100% record at home and no other team has scored more goals on their own patch. They have taken 23 points from their last 10 games, but they only kept one clean sheet in those games and only City have scored more goals.
Ollie Watkins is the Villa player to have for fantasy managers with Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby good choices too.
City conceded a last minute goal to draw 3-3 at home to Spurs at the weekend and that result meant they dropped back to third place. They have only won once in their last four away games with only Spurs taking more points and scoring more goals on the road. They have drawn their last three games and they conceded eight goals in those games, but no other team has scored more goals.
Erling Haaland is the must have City player for fantasy managers with Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku good options too.
I think this game could go either way and the most likely scenario is a share of the points.
Prediction: 2-2
Manchester United v Chelsea
8.15pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester
United lost 1-0 away to Newcastle on Saturday night, but they’re still only five points off the top four. They have lost three of their last five home games with only five other teams scoring less goals on their own ground. They had won five of their previous six games before losing to Newcastle and no other team in the top half of the table has scored less goals.
Bruno Fernandes remains the best option in the United team for fantasy managers with their defenders and keeper doing well recently too.
Chelsea won 3-2 at home to Brighton on Sunday despite playing half of the game with 10 players and that win just about kept them in the top half of the table. They have won three of their last four away games and they scored 11 goals in those games. They have only won two of their last six games, but they have a very good run of games coming up.
Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer are the Chelsea players who could do well for fantasy managers over the next few weeks.
I’m not too sure how this game will go, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.
Prediction: 1-1
Thursday December 7
Everton v Newcastle United
7.30pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool
Everton won 1-0 away to Forest on Saturday and they’re now only two points behind 17th placed Luton. They have lost five of their seven home games and no other team has scored less goals on their own patch. They have won five of their last nine games and they would be in 12th place if it wasn’t for the points deduction, but only two other teams have scored less goals.
Vitalli Mykolenko and James Tarkowski have done well recently for fantasy managers, but Everton have a tough run of games coming up.
Newcastle won 1-0 at home to United at the weekend to move within three points of the top four. They have only won once in their six away games, but only three other teams have scored more goals on their travels. They have taken 23 points in their last 10 games and only two other teams have scored more goals.
If he’s fit to play Anthony Gordon is the Newcastle player to have for fantasy managers with Alexander Isak and Martin Dubravka possibly worth considering too.
I think Newcastle should be too strong for Everton and will probably win by the odd goal.
Prediction: 1-2
Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham United
8.15pm GMT, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London
Spurs got a very late goal to draw 3-3 away to City on Sunday and they’re still only six points off the top of the table despite their recent poor run. They have lost their last two home games after winning the previous four and four of their next six games are on their own ground. They have only taken one point from their last four games and they conceded 11 goals in those games, but they only play one of the other big six teams in their next 11 games.
Son Heung-Min is the Spurs player to have for fantasy managers while Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski have looked good recently too.
West Ham drew 1-1 at home to Palace at the weekend to stay in ninth place, but the two teams directly below them both won. They won their last away game after losing the previous three and they will have their work cut out to get anything from this game. They have taken seven points from their last three games, but they face three of the big six in their next five games.
Jarrod Bowen has been the outstanding West Ham player for fantasy managers while James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek and Mohammed Kudus are all worth considering too.
I think this will be a close game and home advantage should just see Spurs prevail.
Prediction: 2-1
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
