Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Six

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did reasonably well in midweek with one perfect prediction, four correct outcomes and five incorrect outcomes which put me back on top of my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

My choice of Erling Haaland for my fantasy captain last week went very well with his hat trick against Forest being the highlight of the week for my team. Joao Cancelo, Gabriel Martinelli and Aleksandar Mitrovic all did well for me too as I made up some of the ground I lost last week. Haaland looks like the best choice for this week again as long as he avoids the dreaded rotation policy of Pep Guardiola. With Rodrigo injured I’ll probably be looking to bring in a midfielder and the chances are Wilfried Zaha might be on my radar.

Saturday September 3

Everton v Liverpool

12.30pm BST, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton drew 1-1 away to Leeds on Tuesday night and it was just enough to keep them out of the bottom three. They have only taken one point and scored one goal in their two home games and they will do well to get anything from this game too. They have drawn their last three games by the same 1-1 scoreline, but they have Liverpool and Arsenal in their next two games.

Anthony Gordon is the only Everton player who looks capable of doing something for fantasy managers.

Liverpool came back from 1-0 to win 2-1 at home to Newcastle with a last minute goal on Wednesday night. They scored more goals away from home than any other team last season, but they didn’t win either of their two away games so far. They have won their last two games after failing to win their first three and only City have scored more goals.

There are so many Liverpool players for fantasy managers to consider with Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and all of their defenders and keeper really good choices.

I think Liverpool will make it three wins in a row with a couple of goals to spare in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Brentford v Leeds United

3pm BST, Brentford Community Stadium, London

Brentford drew 1-1 away to Palace on Tuesday night and they’re only one point off the top half of the table. Only two other teams lost more home games last season, but they have taken four points from their two home games so far. They haven’t won in their last three games, but they will hope to put that right in this game.

Ivan Toney remains the best of the Brentford players for fantasy managers while Bryan Mbeumo should be considered too.

Leeds came back from 1-0 down to draw 1-1 at home to Everton on Tuesday night and they have taken eight points from their first five games. They took more points away from home than they did at home last season, but they’re still looking for their first away win this season. They have a reasonable run of games coming up and they will hope to keep themselves safely in mid-table.

With Rodrigo injured Jack Harrison is the Leeds player for fantasy managers to have a look at while the return of Patrick Bamford could be interesting too.

This is a tough game to call and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Chelsea v West Ham United

3pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea lost 2-1 away to Southampton on Tuesday night after leading 1-0 and they’re already losing ground on the pacesetters. Their home form let them down last season and it will have to be better this season considering they have lost two away games already. They managed to bring some players in on deadline they and that might be just what they need to get back on track.

Raheem Sterling seems to have settled in at Chelsea and he can do well for fantasy managers along with Reece James.

West Ham came back from 1-0 down to draw 1-1 at home to Spurs on Wednesday night and that point was enough to move them out of the bottom three. Their only win so far came away from home, but Chelsea will be a tougher opponent than Villa were. Their games get a little easier after this one and they will need to take advantage of that to climb the table.

It’s not east to see which West Ham players to recommend to fantasy managers until they at least start to score on a more consistent basis.

I think this will be a close game, but Chelsea should have enough to take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Newcastle United v Crystal Palace

3pm BST, St. James’s Park, Newcastle

Newcastle lost 2-1 away to Liverpool on Wednesday night to put an end to their unbeaten start to the season. They have taken four points from their first two home games and they have a good run of home games coming up. They have only lost one game, but they have drawn three and they could do with turning a few of those draws into wins.

Allan Saint-Maximin is looking pretty good for fantasy managers at the moment while Alexander Isak might be one to watch too.

Palace drew 1-1 at home to Brentford on Tuesday night and they have only won once in their first five games. They only won four away games last season, but they don’t play any of the big six in their next seven away games. They have had a tough start to their season and their games don’t get much easier for a few more weeks.

With Wilfried Zaha back from injury he’s the Palace player to have for fantasy managers with Eberechi Eze worth considering too.

This looks like it will be a very close game and the chances are the spoils will be shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Nottingham Forest v Bournemouth

3pm BST, City Ground, Nottingham

Forest lost 6-0 away to City on Wednesday night and they will be happy to put that game behind them and play against one of the teams that came up from the Championship with them. They were very good at home last season and they will be expected to get their second home win in this game. They have come through two very tough games with no goals or points, but they have a good run of games starting with this one.

I still think we have to wait a little while before we see the best Forest players for fantasy managers, but we might get a better idea in this game.

Bournemouth recovered from their mauling by Liverpool with a 0-0 draw at home to Wolves on Wednesday night. They conceded 13 goals in losing their first two away games and they will hope to improve on that awful away form in this game. No other team has conceded more goals so far, but they have kept clean sheets in two of their five games.

I can’t see any Bournemouth players to recommend to fantasy managers in this game.

I think Forest should be good enough to win this game by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 2-0

Tottenham Hotspur v Fulham

3pm BST, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Spurs led 1-0 away to West Ham on Wednesday night, but they had to settle for a point which kept them in third place. They have won their two home games so far and they have a good run of home games coming up. They are still unbeaten and they have only conceded one goal in their last three games.

Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski, Ivan Perisic and Son Heung-Min are all good options for fantasy managers even if Son hasn’t hit the heights of last season yet.

Fulham won 2-1 at home to Brighton on Tuesday night and they’re only one point off the top five. They haven’t won away from home yet and they will do well to get anything from this game. Their only defeat came away to Arsenal, but they will have their work cut out with Spurs and Chelsea in their next two games.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is the Fulham player to have for fantasy managers while Andreas Pereira hasn’t done too badly either and he’s still available at a very good price.

I think Fulham will make a game of it, but Spurs should take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Southampton

3pm BST, Molineux Stadium, London

Wolves could only draw 0-0 away to Bournemouth on Wednesday night as their inability to take their chances continues to hamper them. They have drawn both of their home games so far, but they only scored one goal in those two games. No other team has scored less goals so far, but only Brighton have conceded les.

I am still waiting to see which Wolves players will emerge as their best options for fantasy managers.

Southampton came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 at home to Chelsea on Tuesday night and that win moved them into the top half of the table. They have a couple of good away games coming up starting with this one and they will be hoping to build on the win they got in their last away game at Leicester. They have won two of their last three games and they have some favourable fixtures starting with this one.

James Ward-Prowse remains the best choice in the Southampton team for fantasy managers.

I don’t think we will see too many goals in this game with a draw probably the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Aston Villa v Manchester City

5.30pm BST, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa lost 2-1 away to Arsenal on Wednesday night and they face an even tougher task in this game. They have lost all three of their away games with only Bournemouth and Forest conceding more goals on the road. They have dropped back to second last in the table with four defeats from their first five games and Steven Gerrard must be feeling some pressure at this point.

I can’t see any Villa players to recommend to fantasy managers for the moment at least.

City strolled to a 6-0 win at home to Forest on Wednesday night and they’re still only two points behind Arsenal at the top of the table. Their only dropped points so far were in a 3-3 draw away to Newcastle and they should find this game a lot easier. No other team has scored more goals so far and the chances are they could add considerably to that tally in this game.

Erling Haaland is an absolute must have for fantasy managers with Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden and all of City’s defenders and keeper very good choices too.

I can’t see anything other than a comprehensive City victory in this game.

Prediction: 0-4

Sunday September 4

Brighton And Hove Albion v Leicester City

2pm BST, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton lost for the first time this season when Fulham beat them 2-1 on Tuesday night, but they kept their place in the top four. They only won five home games last season, but they are the only team who haven’t conceded a goal at home so far. No other team has conceded less goals so far and their next three games are all ones they will hope to win.

Despite their first defeat Pascal Gross, Leandro Trossard and all of the Brighton defenders and keeper are good choices for fantasy managers.

Leicester lost 1-0 at home to United on Thursday night and that defeat left them at the foot of the table. They only won four away games last season and they have lost both of their away games so far. They’re one of three teams without a win and only Bournemouth have conceded more goals.

James Maddison is the Leicester player most likely to return points for fantasy managers.

I think Brighton will get back to winning ways in a tight game.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester United v Arsenal

4.30pm BST, Old Trafford, Manchester

United won 1-0 away to Leicester on Thursday night to make it three wins in a row and move up to fifth place. They only lost four home games last season and they won their last home game against Liverpool, but this will be a big test for them too. They have only scored five goals in their five games, but they have only conceded one in their last three.

Jadon Sancho has scored two goals in his last three games and he could be of interest to fantasy managers while United’s defenders and keeper have done well recently too.

Arsenal won 2-1 at home to Villa on Wednesday night to maintain their position at the top of the table. They have won both of their away games without conceding a goal so far, but this will be a tougher test for them. Only City and Liverpool have scored more goals and only Brighton have conceded less, but this will be their biggest challenge to date.

Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard are the attacking players doing the business for fantasy managers at the moment with Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba looking good in defence.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end all square.

Prediction: 2-2

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
