Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Three

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did pretty well last week with three perfect predictions, four correct outcomes and three incorrect outcomes which moved me up to the top of my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

My choice of Mohamed Salah as my captain didn’t work out last week and I would have been better off going with my vice captain who was Gabriel Jesus. He was my star player of the week with Gabriel Martinelli, Ivan Toney and Joao Cancelo all having another very good week for me too. I lost a little ground overall, but I am still very hopeful as I think my squad looks very strong. I didn’t make a transfer last week so I can make two without losing any points this week and I might even make three for a four point hit.

At the moment Rodrigo, Pascal Gross and Josh Dasilva are looking like the bargains to be had in midfield while Newcastle defenders look attractive, but they have to play City and Liverpool in their next three games. James Maddison looks pretty good too, but I will probably have to sell Son Heung-Min to get him. The chances are I will probably bring in Aleksandar Mitrovic too despite his missed penalty at the weekend.

Saturday August 20

Tottenham Hotspur v Wolverhampton Wanderers

12.30pm BST, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Spurs came from behind twice last week to draw 2-2 away to Chelsea as both managers saw red after the game. They won their first home game 4-1 with only the top two scoring more goals at home last season. They have a very good run of games coming up and they will be looking to put pressure on the three teams above them.

With the fixture list being kind to them Son Heung-Min, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski are all very good options for fantasy managers.

Wolves drew 0-0 at home to Fulham last week thanks to Jose Sa saving a penalty. They took more points away from home than they did at home last season, but they lost their opening away game at Leeds. With only one point and one goal from their first two games Wolves need to get a win and their games get a little easier after this one.

Wolves haven’t started the season too well, but Sa has showed he could do as well as he did last season for fantasy managers.

I think this will be a close enough game with Spurs taking the three points.

Prediction: 2-0

Crystal Palace v Aston Villa

3pm BST, Selhurst Park, London

Palace drew 1-1 away to Liverpool last week to get their first point of the season and they will be looking for their first win in this game. They lost their opening home game against Arsenal, but they only lost four home games last season even if they did draw more home games than any other team. They have a reasonable runs of games coming up with the exception of a trip to City next week.

Wilfried Zaha showed against Liverpool that he’s the Palace player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers.

Villa won 2-1 at home to Everton last week to get their first points of the season and they will be hopeful of adding to them in this game. They lost their first away game against Bournemouth and only three other teams lost more games on the road last season.  They have a tough run of games coming up and they will have to improve on what we have seen so far if they’re going to get anywhere near the top half of the table.

Danny Ings is the Villa player who can score points for fantasy managers and Ollie Watkins might not be a bad option either.

I think this will be another close game with Palace probably winning by a single goal.

Prediction: 2-1

Everton v Nottingham Forest

3pm BST, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton lost 2-1 away to Villa last week and they are pointless after their first two games. They lost their first home game against Chelsea, but this game should give them the ideal opportunity to get off the mark at home. With two defeats from two games they are only off the foot of the table on goal difference, but their next three games are all ones they have a chance of winning.

I’m not sure there are any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Forest won 1-0 at home to West Ham last week to get their first Premier League win in over 20 years. They lost their first away game against Newcastle and they will want to get something from this game as their next trip is to play City. Their aim this season has to be to stay up and three points in this game would really help that cause.

Neco Williams showed what good value he can be for fantasy managers last week while Jessie Lingard isn’t the worst choice either.

I think this is a very tough game to call, but a draw is probably the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Fulham v Brentford

3pm BST, Craven Cottage, London

Fulham drew 0-0 away to Wolves last week, but a missed penalty cost them two points. They drew their first home game against Liverpool and they will want to build on that in this game. They have drawn their first two games and they could easily have won both of them so they will be anxious to get their first win as soon as possible.

Mitrovic still looks like the best choice in the Fulham team for fantasy managers despite his penalty miss last week.

Brentford waltzed to a 4-0 win at home to United last week to make it four points from their first two games. They came back from 2-0 down to draw their first away game with Leicester and they will feel they can build on that in this game. They have scored six goals in their first two games with no other team scoring more goals so far.

Ivan Toney, Josh Dasilva and Bryan Mbeumo are all looking like very good options for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think this will be a close game with Brentford most likely winning narrowly.

Prediction: 1-2

Leicester City v Southampton

3pm BST, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester lost 4-2 away to Arsenal last week and they have only taken one point and conceded six goals from their first two games. They let a two goal lead slip in their first home game to draw 2-2 with Brentford, but they have a very good run of home games coming up. This game should give them the ideal opportunity to get their first win of the season.

James Maddison is the Leicester player who can make a real difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

Southampton came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to Leeds last week to get their first point of the season, but like Leicester they have conceded six goals in their first two games. They lost their first away game 4-1 against Spurs and no other team conceded more goals away from home last season. They have a very tough run of games coming up and they could be in the bottom three very soon.

James Ward-Prowse remains the Southampton player most likely to score points for fantasy managers.

I think Leicester will get their first win of the season with a couple of goals to spare in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Bournemouth v Arsenal

5.30pm BST, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth

Bournemouth lost 4-0 away to City last week, but they did win their first home game. They won that game 2-0 against Villa, but Arsenal will be a tougher nut to crack. Their aim is to avoid relegation, but with Liverpool to play after this game the fixture list has not been kind to them.

I’m still not sure which Bournemouth players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Arsenal won 4-2 at home to Leicester last week and they’re only behind City at the top of the table on goal difference. They won their first away game 2-0 against Palace and no other team drew less games on their travels last season. They will be looking to make it three wins from three and they have some favourable games coming up too.

Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Oleksandar Zinchenko are all doing very well for fantasy managers with Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes all worth considering too.

I think Arsenal will continue their winning ways by taking another three points in this game.

Prediction: 1-3

Sunday August 21

Leeds United v Chelsea

2pm BST, Elland Road, Leeds

Leeds led 2-0 away to Southampton last week, but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw to make it four points from their first two games. Only two other teams took less points at home last season and they need to improve that record this season. They have looked good in attack so far despite selling their best two players, but they could struggle in this game.

Rodrigo has had a great start to the season for fantasy managers, but that could change in this game.

Chelsea led twice at home to Spurs last week, but they had to settle for a point too and they’re a place behind Leeds going into this game. Only the top two took more points away from home last season and they had the best defensive record on the road too. They have a very good run of games coming up, but they need to do more work in the transfer market if they’re going to challenge City and Liverpool.

Reece James, Marc Cucurella and Edouard Mendy are all looking like very good options for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Chelsea should just have enough to take the three points in this game.

Prediction: 0-1

West Ham United v Brighton And Hove Albion

2pm BST, London Stadium, London

West Ham lost 1-0 away to Forest last week and they’re without a point or a goal from their first two games. They lost their first home game against City and they play an in form Brighton team in this game. They have a very tough start to the season and the distraction of their European qualifiers won’t help their cause.

Jarrod Bowen is the West Ham player most likely to perform for fantasy managers and he managed a goal in their midweek European game too.

Brighton drew 0-0 at home to Newcastle last week and they have been very impressive in their first two games. Only the top four took more points away from home last season and they won their first away game against United. They have a very good run of games coming up and they could be in a very good position if they can find the goals they were lacking last season.

Pascal Gross has started the season very well for fantasy managers while Leandro Trossard and Danny Welbeck are possibilities too.

I think Brighton will continue their impressive start to the season by winning this game.

Prediction: 1-2

Newcastle United v Manchester City

4.30pm BST, St. James’s Park, Newcastle

Newcastle drew 0-0 away to Brighton last week and they have kept clean sheets in their first two games. They finished the season strongly at home last season, but they will struggle to get anything from this game. With City in this game and Liverpool to play in 10 days Newcastle have a tough run of games, but they have looked up to the task recently.

Newcastle have a very tough run of games coming up, but Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson could do well after those games along with Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope and Fabian Schar.

City won 4-0 at home to Bournemouth last week to move to the top of the table on goal difference. It was their away record which won them the title last season and they won their first away game against West Ham. They haven’t conceded a goal yet and they have a very good run of games to start the season.

Kevin de Bruyne is looking really good for fantasy managers at the moment along with Joao Cancelo and Erling Haaland and all of City’s defenders and keeper.

I think City will get their third win out of three games in this game by at least a couple of goals.

Prediction: 0-2

Monday August 23

Manchester United v Liverpool

8pm BST, Old Trafford, Manchester

United lost 4-0 away to Brentford last week and they find themselves propping up the rest of the table. Only four other teams took more points at home last season, but they will do very well to get anything from this game. They have had an awful start to their season and they need to find some stability quickly or their season will be over before it starts.

I can’t see any United players to recommend to fantasy managers in this game, but that could change over the next few weeks.

Liverpool drew 1-1 at home to Palace last week and they are still waiting for their first win of the season. They scored more goals away from home than any other team last season and they will see this as the perfect chance to get their first win. They are already four points behind City and they cannot afford to lose any more ground so I fully expect them to win this game.

Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz are the attacking players to have in the Liverpool team for fantasy managers while all of their defenders and keeper will surely come good soon too.

I think Liverpool will get their first win in this game and condemn United to yet another defeat.

Prediction: 1-3

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
