Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 36

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did pretty well last week with two perfect predictions, five correct outcomes and three incorrect outcomes which left me in seventh place in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

My choice of Mohamed Salah as my captain didn’t work out well last week, but I can’t see a better option this week as Liverpool play twice and they have to win both games. Kevin de Bruyne could be a good choice too with City in the same position as Liverpool while James Maddison is an outside bet as Leicester have two home games against teams in the bottom three.

Saturday May 7

Brentford v Southampton

3pm BST, Brentford Community Stadium, London

Brentford lost 3-0 away to United last week, buy they’re still only three points off the top half of the table. They have taken seven points from their last three home games and they didn’t concede any goals in those games, but only the bottom two have lost more games at home. They had won five out of seven games before losing to United and their last three games are all against teams below them in the table.

Ivan Toney remains the Brentford player most likely to return some points for fantasy managers.

Southampton lost 2-1 at home to Palace last week and they’re behind Brentford on goal difference going into this game. They haven’t won in their last five away games and only two other teams have conceded more goals on the road. They have only won once in their last nine games with only three other teams conceding more goals.

James Ward-Prowse is the Southampton player for fantasy managers to have.

I don’t think there will be too much between these two teams, but the chances are Brentford will take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Burnley v Aston Villa

3pm BST, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley won 2-1 away to Watford last week and they’re now two places and two points above the relegation zone. They have won their last three home games, but only Brighton and Norwich have scored less goals on their own patch. They have taken 13 points from their last six games to give themselves a real chance of staying up.

Josh Brownhill has done well in recent weeks for fantasy managers, but I’m not sure Burnley players are a good option for fantasy managers.

Villa won 2-0 at home to Norwich last week and they’re still only three points off the top half of the table. They have only taken one point from their last three away games and only two other teams have lost more away games. The win against Norwich was their first win in six games with only the bottom three teams losing more games.

With two games this week and next week Villa players look like good value for fantasy managers at the moment with Ollie Watkins probably the best of them.

This isn’t an easy game to call, but I have a feeling Burnley will manage a narrow victory.

Prediction: 1-0

Chelsea v Wolverhampton Wanderers

3pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea lost 1-0 away to Everton last week and it looks like the end of the season can’t come quickly enough for them.  They have lost two of their last three home games and they conceded eight goals in those two defeats. They have lost three of their last six games, but three of their last four games are at home.

With two games this week Mason Mount and Kai Havertz could do well for fantasy managers as could the Chelsea defenders and keeper.

Wolves lost 3-0 at home to Brighton last week and their hopes of European football for next season are gone. They have lost four of their last five away games and they failed to score in three of those games. They have lost their last three games without scoring and they play all of the top three in their next four games.

Even with two games this week it’s difficult to recommend Wolves players to fantasy managers as they’re two very tough games.

Despite Chelsea’s recent poor results I still think they will manage a win in this game.

Prediction: 2-1

Crystal Palace v Watford

3pm BST, Selhurst Park, London

Palace won 2-1 away to Southampton last week and they’re only two points off the top half of the table. They’re unbeaten in four home games and they kept clean sheets in their last three home games with no other team drawing more games at home. They have only lost two of their last nine games and they play two of the bottom three in their last four games.

Wilfried Zaha could be the Palace player to have for fantasy managers, but he could do better next week with Palace playing twice.

Watford lost 2-1 at home to Burnley this week and it will take more than a miracle for them to avoid relegation at this stage. They have lost three of their last four away games and they conceded eight goals in those games, but they have taken more than two thirds of their points on the road. They have lost their last five games and they conceded 14 goals in those games with only Leeds and Norwich conceding more goals.

Even with two games this week I’m not sure there are any Watford players who can make a contribution for fantasy managers.

I think Palace should be strong enough to win this game by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 2-0

Brighton And Hove Albion v Manchester United

5.30pm BST, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton won 3-0 away to Wolves last week and that win moved them back into the top half of the table. They haven’t won in eight home games and no other team has scored less goals at home with only the bottom two taking less points on the road. They have taken 10 points from their last five games and they have kept clean sheets in three of their last six games.

Leandro Trossard is the Brighton player most likely to make an impression for fantasy managers at the moment.

United won 3-0 at home to Brentford last week and their chances of finishing in the top four are not mathematically gone yet. They have lost their last four away games and they conceded 12 goals in those games with no other team in the top half of the table conceding more goals away from home. They have only won two of their last seven games and they have less games left to play than any other team.

Cristiano Ronaldo is in very good form for fantasy managers at the moment, but it’s hard to pick United players as they only have two games left to play.

I think this will be a very close game with a draw probably the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur

7.45pm BST, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool won 1-0 away to Newcastle last week to remain one point behind City at the top of the table. They have won their last 12 home games and they kept clean sheets in 10 of those games with no other team team taking more points or conceding less goals at home. They have taken 40 points from the last 42 available to them and they kept 11 clean sheets in those games with no other team scoring more goals and only City conceding less.

Mohamed Salah is the Liverpool player to have for fantasy managers with Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and all of the Liverpool defenders and keeper very good choices too.

Spurs won 3-1 at home to Leicester last week and they’re only two points behind Arsenal in the race for a top four finish. They have taken 13 points from their last seven away games, but they will do very well to get anything from this game. They have taken 16 points from their last seven games, but defeat in this game would put a huge dent in their top four hopes.

Heung-Min Son is the Spurs player who can make a very good impression for fantasy managers with Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski worth considering too.

I think Liverpool will be too strong for Spurs and should take all three points in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Sunday May 8

Arsenal v Leeds United

2pm BST, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal won 2-1 away to West Ham last week to hold on to their place in the top four. They won their last home game after losing the previous two, but only two other teams have taken more points on their own patch. They have won their last three games and they scored nine goals in those games.

Bukayo Saka is the Arsenal player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers.

Leeds lost 4-0 at home to City last week and they’re now only two points above the bottom three. They have taken seven points from their last three away games, but no other team has conceded more goals away from home. They have taken 11 points from their last six games, but they have to play two of the top four this week.

Raphinha is the Leeds player who can return points for fantasy managers and they need him to do so if they’re going to keep their place in the top flight.

I think Leeds will make a game of it, but Arsenal should be able to take the three points.

Prediction: 3-1

Leicester City v Everton

2pm BST, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester lost 3-1 away to Spurs last week, buy they’re still only one point off the top half of the table. They have taken 10 points from their last four home games and they play two of the bottom three in their next two home games. They have only taken two points from their last four games, but they will hope to move back into the top half of the table as they play each of the bottom three teams in their next three games.

If Leicester can get over their midweek European disappointment then James Maddison could do very well for fantasy managers.

Everton won 1-0 at home to Chelsea last week to stay two points behind Leeds and Burnley, but they’re still in the bottom three. They have lost their last seven away games with no other team taking less points on the road and only Norwich scoring less goals. They have taken 10 points from their last seven games and they play twice this week and next week too.

With two games in each of the next two weeks both Anthony Gordon and Richarlison could do well for fantasy managers.

I think this will be a close game with Leicester probably winning narrowly.

Prediction: 2-1

Norwich City v West Ham United

2pm BST, Carrow Road, Norwich

Norwich lost 2-0 away to Villa last week and that defeat meant they were relegated. They have lost four of their last five home games and they conceded 13 goals in those games with no other team scoring less goals at home. They have only won once in their last 12 games with no other team scoring less goals and only Leeds conceding more.

With two games this week Teemu Pukki is the only Norwich player who might interest fantasy managers.

West Ham lost 2-1 at home to Arsenal last week and their chances of qualifying for European football this season are very slim now. The have lost their last four away games and they failed to score in three of them, but they will hope to reverse that trend against the team at the foot of the table. They have only taken one point from their last four games as their midweek exploits took precedence and they might find it hard to get their Premier League form back before the season ends.

If West Ham can recover from their midweek disappointment then Jarrod Bowen can do well for fantasy managers.

I think Norwich can take advantage of a tired West Ham team to win this game by one goal.

Prediction: 1-0

Manchester City v Newcastle United

4.30pm BST, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City won 4-0 away to Wolves last week to maintain their one point lead at the top of the table. They have taken 10 points from their last four home games with no other team scoring more goals at home. They have won their last three games and they scored 12 goals in those games with only Liverpool scoring more goals and no other team conceding less.

Kevin de Bruyne is the City player to have for fantasy managers with two games to play this week while all of City’s defenders and keeper are good choices too and Gabriel Jesus is in very good form at the moment.

Newcastle lost 1-0 at home to Liverpool last week, but they’re still in the top half of the table. They won their last away game after losing the previous three and a trip to the reigning champions will be a tough day out for them. They lost their last game after winning the previous four and they kept three clean sheets in those games.

I can’t see any Newcastle players to recommend to fantasy managers in this game although Bruno Guimaraes is in good form at the moment.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable City victory in this game as long as they can recover from their midweek drama and disappointment.

Prediction: 3-0

Tuesday May 10

Aston Villa v Liverpool

8pm BST, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa play their second game of the week and a home game against title chasing Liverpool is not going to be easy for them. They have only won two of their last eight home games and they will have their work cut out in this game.

As good as it is for fantasy managers to pick Villa players this week the chances are they won’t do well in this game.

Liverpool play their second game of the week too and nothing less than six points will do them in these two games. They have taken 17 points from their last seven away games with no other team scoring more goals on the road.

Liverpool might be tempted to rest players ahead of the FA Cup Final, but I think they will resist the temptation and the players I mentioned above are all very good choices.

I can’t see anything other than a Liverpool win in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Wednesday May 11

Leeds United v Chelsea

7.30pm BST, Elland Road, Leeds

Leeds play their second game of the week and both of them are against teams in the top four. They have lost five of their last seven home games with only Watford conceding more goals at home.

As I mentioned already Raphinha could do well for fantasy managers this week if Leeds can continue their recent good form.

Chelsea play their second game of the week, but their minds might be elsewhere with the FA Cup final coming up. They have won four of their last six away games with only City taking more points and only Liverpool scoring more goals away from home.

If Chelsea do rest some players it’s difficult to know which ones to recommend to fantasy managers.

I think Chelsea will keep the pressure on Leeds by narrowly taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 1-2

Leicester City v Norwich City

7.45pm BST, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester play their second game of the week and they’re both at home to teams in the bottom three. If they’re going to climb back into the top half of the table they will need to win both of these home games.

If he’s back in the team Jamie Vardy  could have a very good week along James Maddison and Harvey Barnes.

Norwich play their second game of the week and they’re both against teams who suffered European semi final disappointment in midweek. They have only taken one point from their last six away games and no other team has scored less goals on the road while only Leeds have conceded more.

As I said already Teemu Pukki has looked good recently and could have a good week for fantasy managers.

I think Leicester will take advantage of playing on their own ground to win this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Watford v Everton

7.45pm BST, Vicarage Road, Watford

Watford play their second game of the week and the chances of their relegation not being confirmed before this game are almost nonexistent. They have lost their last 11 home games and no other team has conceded more goals at home.

At a push I suppose Emmanuel Dennis could be the Watford player for fantasy managers to consider this week.

Everton play their second away game of the week and they need to win at least one of them to improve their chances of avoiding relegation. With Watford’s home record this is the game Everton will feel is there for the taking.

As I said already Richarlison (if he’s fit) and Anthony Gordon could do well over the next two weeks for fantasy managers.

This is a huge game for Everton and I have a feeling they will get a badly needed victory in it.

Prediction: 1-2

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester City

8.15pm BST, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton

Wolves play their second game of the week and they’re both against teams in the top three. They have lost four of their last seven home games with only the bottom two losing more games on their own ground.

With two very tough games this week the chances are the Wolves players won’t do too much for fantasy managers.

City play their second game of the week and they have to win them both or they could finish the season with no trophies to their name. They have taken 35 of their last 39 points available to them away from home with no other team taking more points or conceding less goals away from home.

With only the league left to play for City players could do very well over the next few weeks for fantasy managers.

I think City will win this game by at least two goals to keep  their place at the top of the table.

Prediction: 0-2

Thursday May 12

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal

7.45pm BST, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Spurs play their second game of the week and it’s an absolute must win game for them if they’re going to overtake Arsenal in the race for a top four finish. They have won four of their last five home games and they scored 16 goals in those games with only the top two scoring more goals at home.

The Spurs players I mentioned already are all very good choices for fantasy managers this week.

Arsenal play their second game of the week too and they could possibly guarantee a top four finish if they win them both. They have won seven of their last nine away games and victory in this game would almost guarantee a top four place.

Arsenal players haven’t really done too much for fantasy managers recently, but its difficult to ignore Bukayo Saka

I think this will be another very close game and a draw might just be on the cards.

Prediction: 1-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
