Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 28

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t do too well last week with one perfect prediction, three correct outcomes and five incorrect outcomes which left me in fourth place in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

My choice of Wout Weghorst as my captain last week didn’t work out, but hopefully I can choose better this week. With eight teams playing twice this week there are a lot of potential players to choose from and I probably won’t make my decision until just before the deadline. There are a few good cut price options in the Newcastle team and they play twice this week and twice next week again.  If he’s fit Allan Saint-Maximin looks like a very good choice while both Ryan Fraser and Joe Willock are appealing too.

Saturday 5 March

Leicester City v Leeds United

12.30pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester won 2-0 away to Burnley last week and they’re still only three points off the top half of the table. They have only taken two points from their last three home games, but they don’t play any of the top eight teams in their last seven home games. Their win against Burnley was their first win in six games, but only five other teams have conceded more goals.

With Jamie Vardy back from injury he’s well worth having a look at for fantasy managers while James Maddison and Harvey Barnes are good bets too.

Leeds lost 4-0 at home to Spurs last week and they’re now only two points above the bottom three. They have only won once in their last eight away games and they conceded 24 goals in their last six games on the road with no other team conceding more away goals. They have only taken one point from their last six games and they conceded 21 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals.

With two games this week Leeds players could look like good choices for fantasy managers with Raphinha the best of them.

I think Leicester should make it back to back wins in this game with at least a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 3-1

Aston Villa v Southampton

3pm GMT, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa won 2-0 away to Brighton last week and they’re only three points off the top half of the table going into this game. They have only taken two points from their last four home games and they conceded nine goals in those games. They have only won two of their last eight games and only four other teams have lost more games.

With two games this week Villa players are looking like good options for fantasy managers with Phillippe Coutinho, Jacob Ramsey and maybe even Ollie Watkins worth considering.

Southampton won 2-0 at home to Norwich last week and that win moved them up to ninth place. They have only lost one of their last five away games and they scored 10 goals in those games, but only two other teams have conceded more goals on their travels. They have only lost one of their last 10 games and they scored 20 goals in those games, but no other team in the top half of the table has conceded more goals.

Southampton are another team to play twice this week which makes James Ward-Prowse, Che Adams and Armando Broja all look like good options for fantasy managers.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 2-2

Burnley v Chelsea

3pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley drew 1-1 away to Palace and then lost 2-0 at home to Leicester last week which meant they stayed in the bottom three. They have only won once in their last seven home games, but they drew four of those games with only Norwich scoring less goals on their own ground. They have taken seven points from their last four games after failing to win the previous 11 with only Norwich scoring less goals.

I thought Burnley players might do well for fantasy managers last week, but I was wrong and they probably won’t do much this week either.

Chelsea didn’t play last week and they’re now 16 points off the top of the table with only two games in hand. They have only won two of their last six away games with only City taking more points and no other team conceding less goals on the road. They have only won three of their last nine games, but they drew five of those games with only City conceding less goals.

It’s not easy to know which Chelsea players to pick for fantasy managers, but Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Antonio Rudiger and Reece James probably look like the pick of the bunch and they play twice this week.

I think Chelsea will be too strong for Burnley and should win by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 0-2

Newcastle United v Brighton And Hove Albion

3pm GMT, St. James’s Park, Newcastle

Newcastle won 2-0 away to Brentford last week and they now have four points to spare over the relegation zone. They have only lost one of their last eight home games, but they play four away games in a row after this game. They’re unbeaten in seven games and they only conceded four goals in those games, but only three other teams have conceded more goals.

With two games this week and next week Newcastle players such as Ryan Fraser, Joe Willock and Allan Saint-Maximin (if he’s fit) are all looking like good choices for fantasy managers.

Brighton lost 2-0 at home to Villa last week, but they managed to hold on to their place in the top half of the table. They have only lost one of their last seven away games, but they drew four of them and no other team has drawn more games on the road. They have lost their last three games without scoring and no other team has drawn more games.

I’m not sure there are any Brighton players doing enough to interest fantasy managers at the moment.

This looks like being a close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the spoils shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Norwich City v Brentford

3pm GMT, Carrow Road, Norwich

Norwich lost 2-0 away to Southampton last week to leave them rooted to the foot of the table. They have taken four points from their last three home games, but only Watford have taken less points and conceded more goals at home. They have lost their last three games and they conceded nine goals in those games with only Leeds conceding more goals and no other team scoring less.

I can’t see any Norwich players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment even though they have two games this week.

Brentford lost 2-0 at home to Newcastle last week and they’re now only three points above the relegation zone. They have lost their last five away games and they conceded 13 goals in those games with only two other teams conceding more goals away from home. They have only taken one point from their last eight games and only four other teams have conceded more goals.

I can’t see any Brentford players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment either.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Norwich give their survival hopes a boost with a win.

Prediction: 2-1

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Crystal Palace

3pm GMT, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton

Wolves lost 1-0 away to West Ham last week and they have now dropped to eighth place. They won two of their last three home games, but only Norwich have scored less goals at home. They have lost three of their last five games with only Norwich and Burnley scoring less goals.

With two games this week the Wolves defenders and keeper are all looking like good choices for fantasy managers.

Palace drew 1-1 at home to Burnley last week to leave themselves three points off the top half of the table. They are unbeaten in their last four away games, but they drew three of them with only Brighton drawing more games on the road. They have only won once in their last eight games and they have a tough run of games coming up.

Conor Gallagher, Michael Olise and Wilfried Zaha all look like possible options for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think this will be a very close game with Wolves more than likely taking the three points.

Prediction: 1-0

Liverpool v West Ham United

5.30pm GMT, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool didn’t play last week and they’re now six points behind City at the top of the table, but they do have a game in hand. They have won their last eight home games and they scored 26 goals in those games with no other team scoring more or conceding less goals on their own patch. They have won their last six games and they scored 18 goals in those games while only conceding two with no other team scoring more goals.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and all of the Liverpool defenders and keeper are very good choices for fantasy managers.

West Ham won 1-0 at home to Wolves last week to move back up to fifth place. They have only won two of their last eight away games and they face three of the big six in their next four away games including this one. They have taken eight points from their last four games despite only scoring five goals in those games, but Southampton are the only team in the top half of the table to have conceded more goals.

Jarrod Bowen continues to impress for fantasy managers while Aaron Cresswell is doing quite well too.

I think Liverpool will continue to keep the pressure on City by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-0

Sunday 6 March

Watford v Arsenal

2pm GMT, Vicarage Road, Watford

Watford drew 0-0 away to United last week, but they’re still only one place off the foot of the table. They have lost their last seven away games and no other team has taken less points or conceded more goals at home. They have only won once in their last 14 games with only Leeds and Norwich conceding more goals.

With two games this week Emmanuel Dennis and Ismailia Sarr are the Watford players most likely to gain some points for fantasy managers.

Arsenal didn’t play last week and they dropped to sixth place, but they’re only two points away from the top four and they have three games in hand on the two teams directly above them. They have won their last three away games and they scored 10 goals in those games, but they have still conceded more goals than they scored on the road.

Arsenal’s defenders and keeper are looking like good choices for fantasy managers along with Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe if he’s fit to play and he can get a game.

I think Arsenal will continue their pursuit of a top four finish by taking all the points in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Manchester City v Manchester United

4.30pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City won 1-0 away to Everton last week to stretch their lead at the top of the table to six points, but Liverpool do have a game in hand. They lost their last home game after winning the previous seven and no other team has scored more goals at home. They have won 15 of their last 17 games and no other team has conceded less goals, but they still can’t shake Liverpool.

City’s defenders and keeper are all very good choices for fantasy managers along with Phil Foden, Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez.

United could only draw 0-0 at home to struggling Watford last week, but that point was enough to keep them in fourth place. They are unbeaten in seven away games, but they drew four of them and only the top two have scored less goals away from home. They have only lost one of their last 15 games, but they drew six of them and Southampton are the only team in the top half of the table who have conceded more goals.

United have a tough run of games at the moment, but Bruno Fernandes still looks like a good choice for fantasy managers.

I think this will be a very close game with City probably winning by a single goal.

Prediction: 2-1

Monday 7 March

Tottenham Hotspur v Everton

8pm GMT, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Spurs won 4-0 away to Leeds last week and that win was enough to move them up to seventh place. They have lost their last two home games, but no other team has drawn less games on their own ground. They have lost four of their last six games, but they only face one of the other big six teams in their next nine games.

With two games next week fantasy managers might be tempted to stock up on Spurs players such as Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski this week.

Everton lost 1-0 at home to City last week and they’re only one place and one point above the relegation zone. They haven’t won in their last 10 away games and no other team has taken less points on their travels. They have only won two of their last 18 games and they need to halt their slide very quickly or their long stay in the top flight will come to an end.

Even with two games next week it’s still not easy to find any Everton players to interest fantasy managers.

I think Spurs should be good enough to win this game by at least a couple of goals.

Prediction: 3-1

Thursday 10 March

Norwich v Chelsea

7.30pm GMT, Carrow Road, Norwich

Norwich play their second game of the week and a home game against Chelsea is tougher than one against Brentford. As I mentioned already their home form isn’t good and it’s unlikely to get any better in this game. With two games they have an opportunity to climb off the foot of the table or even out of the relegation zone, but I can’t see that happening.

I suppose at a push Teemu Pukki could do well for fantasy managers this week, but I doubt it.

Chelsea play their second away game of the week and their schedule is looking very full at the moment. They have taken more points and conceded less goals away from home than they have at home. Their next four games are against teams in the bottom six and they could make up some ground on the two teams above them if they can win those games.

With the rotation in the Chelsea squad Rudiger is probably the best bet for fantasy managers this week.

I think Chelsea will make it two wins out of two this week with a few goals to spare in this game.

Prediction: 0-3

Southampton v Newcastle United

7.30pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton play their second game of the week and they have a chance to strengthen their place in the top half of the table. They are unbeaten in 10 home games, but they drew five of them and no other team has drawn more games at home. Their next four games are against teams below them in the table including the two this week and they could even end up in the top eight with two wins if other results go their way.

If I had to recommend one Southampton player this week I think Adams is the in form player to have.

Newcastle play their second game of the week too and they will hope to move even further away from the bottom three. They have taken seven points from their last three away games and they only conceded one goal in those games, but only Norwich have scored less goals on the road. They have a tough run of games at the moment and all the points they gained recently could come in very handy.

At a push Saint-Maximin is the Newcastle player to have over the next two weeks once he’s passed fit to play.

I think Southampton should continue their impressive run by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-1

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Watford

7.30pm GMT, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton

Wolves play their second home game of the week and they will hope to move a lot closer to the top four. With two games this week and four of their next five games at home Wolves have an opportunity to make up some ground on the teams above them. Their next six games are all against teams in the bottom half of the table and that could go very well for them.

As well as the Wolves defensive players both Raul Jiminez and Hee-Chan Hwang might just be good options over the next few weeks if Wolves can find their shooting boots.

Watford play for the second time this week too and they have the opportunity to move out of the bottom three. Three of their five wins have come away from home and they have scored more and conceded less goals away from home than they have at home. With their next four games against teams in the top half of the table they could find themselves a long way from safety very soon.

It’s difficult to recommend Watford players to fantasy managers as they fail to score so often, but Dennis and Saar are the ones to have if they do manage to produce anything.

I think Wolves should be good enough to win this game by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 2-0

Leeds United v Aston Villa

7.45pm GMT, Elland Road, Leeds

Leeds play their second game of the week and they have the chance to give themselves a little breathing space at the wrong end of the table. They have lost four of their last five home games and they conceded 14 goals in those games with only Watford conceding more goals on their own patch. Their next three games are against teams in the bottom half of the table including the two this week and they might just have the chance to reverse their recent slide.

I’m not sure there are any other Leeds players to recommend to fantasy managers this week, but it’s difficult to know how they will fare with a new man in charge.

Villa will hope they can get two wins this week and that might be enough to move them into the top half of the table. They have won three of their last five away games and they kept clean sheets in each of those wins, but only Norwich have lost more games on the road. They have a tough run of games at the moment besides this game and they probably need to get all three points against Leeds.

If Leeds defend in this game like they have done recently then the Villa players I mentioned above could all do very well in this game.

This is a tough game to call, but the chances are Villa will take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
