Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 21

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did reasonably well last week with two perfect predictions, four correct outcomes and four incorrect outcomes which left me still on top of my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

Saturday January 30

Everton v Newcastle United

12.30pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton drew 1-1 at home to Leicester on Wednesday night and they’re still only four points off the top four with games in hand on all of the teams above them. They haven’t won in their last two home games, but their next two home games are against teams at the wrong end of the table. They have taken 16 points from their last seven games and they only conceded four goals in those games with only four other teams conceding less goals.

Everton’s defenders look pretty good for fantasy managers in this game and overall at the moment, but their attacking output has fallen off recently.

Newcastle lost 2-1 at home to Leeds in midweek as their slide towards the relegation zone continues. They have lost their last five away games and they haven’t scored in their last four with only two other teams scoring less goals on their travels. They have only taken two points from their last nine games and they have only scored twice in their last seven games.

I’m not sure there are any Newcastle players to interest fantasy managers at the moment with the possible exception of Callum Wilson.

I think Everton should be good enough to take the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-0

Crystal Palace v Wolverhampton Wanderers

3pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London

Palace lost 3-2 at home to West Ham on Tuesday night, but they’re still in 14th place with 10 points to spare over the bottom three. They have only won once in their last six home games with only West Brom conceding more goals at home. They have only won once in their last nine games with only West Brom conceding more goals.

Wilfried Zaha is the only Palace player for fantasy managers to even consider.

Wolves drew 0-0 away to Chelsea in midweek and they’re only ahead of Palace on goal difference going into this game. They haven’t won in five away games and they failed to score in three of those games with only four other teams scoring less goals away from home. They haven’t won in seven games and they have only won once in 10 games since Raul Jiminez picked up his horrific injury.

I’m not sure there are any Wolves players who can make a difference for fantasy managers, but Pedro Neto could prove me wrong.

I don’t think there will be too much between these two teams with a draw probably the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Manchester City v Sheffield United

3pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City won 5-0 away to West Brom in midweek to move to the top of the table for the first time this season. They have won their last four home games without conceding a goal and no other team has taken more points or scored more goals on their own patch. They have won their last seven games and they have kept nine clean sheets in their last 11 games with no other team conceding less goals.

With Kevin de Bruyne injured it looks like Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan could all do well for fantasy managers while the City keeper and defenders are impossible to ignore at the moment.

United had a fantastic 2-1 win away to Manchester United on Wednesday night, but they’re still three points adrift at the foot of the table. No other team has taken less points on the road and only Burnley have scored less goals away from home. They have won two of their last three games to give their survival hopes the tiniest glimmer of hope, but no other team has scored less goals.

Despite their win in midweek I still can’t see any United players to interest fantasy managers.

I think City should win this game with a few goals to spare.

Prediction: 3-0

West Bromwich Albion v Fulham

3pm GMT, The Hawthorns, Birmingham

West Brom lost 5-0 at home to City on Tuesday night and they’re now only three points above the only team below them in the table. They have lost their last five home games and they conceded 22 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals at home. They have only taken five points from their last nine games and no other team has conceded more goals with only Sheffield United and Burnley scoring less.

Matheus Pereira is the only West Brom player for fantasy managers to consider at the moment.

Fulham drew 0-0 away to Brighton in midweek and they’re two points ahead of West Brom going into this game. They have only lost one of their last five away games, but they drew three of them with only Liverpool drawing more away games. They haven’t won in nine games, but they drew six of those games with only Brighton drawing more games and only Sheffield United and Burnley scoring less goals.

I’m not sure there are any Fulham players to recommend to fantasy managers with Ademola Lookman as the possible exception.

This is a huge game for two teams in the relegation zone and I think Fulham have shown enough recently to suggest they can take the three points.

Prediction: 1-2

Arsenal v Manchester United

5.30pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal won 3-1 away to Southampton on Tuesday night and they’re now seven points off the top four after being relegation contenders a few weeks ago. They have taken eight points from their last four home games and they kept clean sheets in the last two games on their own ground. They have taken 16 points from their last six games and they only conceded two goals in those games with only City conceding less goals.

Bukayo Saka is the Arsenal player to have for fantasy managers with Alexandre Lacazette, Emile Smith-Rowe and their keeper and defenders doing pretty well too.

United lost 2-1 at home to bottom club Sheffield United in midweek to put an end to their 13 game unbeaten run and they dropped to second in the table too. No other team has taken more points or scored more goals on the road and they’re the only team unbeaten away from home. They’re only a point behind City and only Liverpool have scored more goals, but no other team in the top half of the table has conceded more goals.

Bruno Fernandes is the United player to have for fantasy managers with Marcus Rashford worth considering too.

This looks like being a very close game and I think Arsenal might just put an end to United’s unbeaten away record.

Prediction: 2-1

Southampton v Aston Villa

8pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton lost 3-1 at home to Arsenal in midweek and that result saw them drop into the bottom half of the table. They have lost three of their last six home games and they have only scored two goals in their last four games at home. They have only won once in their last seven games and they only scored three goals in those games, but they kept four clean sheets in their last eight games.

Southampton’s keeper and defenders are still looking like pretty good options to fantasy managers along with James Ward-Prowse and maybe Danny Ings.

Villa led twice away to Burnley on Wednesday night, but they ended up losing 3-2 and they’re only ahead of Southampton on goal difference going into this game. They have only taken one point from their last four away games and they conceded eight goals in those games. They have only won once in their last five games, but they have a run of games coming up in which they will hope to improve on that.

Jack Grealish remains the best of the Villa players for fantasy managers with Bertrand Traore, Matt Targett, Emiliano Martinez and Ollie Watkins all worth considering too.

I think this will be another very close game with Southampton probably just about managing a win.

Prediction: 2-1

Sunday January 31

Chelsea v Burnley

12pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea drew 0-0 at home to Wolves in midweek and they’re currently struggling to keep pace with the top four. They have only taken two points from their last three home games, but only three other teams have taken more points at home. They have only taken eight points from their last nine games and they failed to score in their last two games, but they have a favourable run of games coming up.

Ben Chilwell still looks like a good bet for fantasy managers while Mason Mount and Timo Werner might prosper under their new manager.

Burnley twice came from behind to win 3-2 at home to Villa on Wednesday night and that was enough to move them nine points clear of the relegation zone. They have taken seven points from their last five away games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games, but no other team has scored less goals on the road. They have taken 17 points from their last 10 games and they kept clean sheets in four of those games, but only Sheffield United have scored less goals.

Nick Pope is yet again proving to be a very good choice for fantasy managers while Burnley’s defenders are worth considering too.

I think Chelsea will get their first win under their new manager in this game with a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 2-0

Leicester City v Leeds United

2pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester drew 1-1 away to Everton on Wednesday night and they’re still in third place only two points behind City at the top of the table. They won their last two home games without conceding a goal and only three other teams have taken more points at home. They have taken 15 points from their last seven games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games with only two other teams scoring more goals.

Leicester’s keeper and defenders are doing very well for fantasy managers at the moment while Youri Tielemans, James Maddison and Harvey Barnes are doing well in the absence of Jamie Vardy too.

Leeds won 2-1 away to Newcastle in midweek to move up to 12th in the table. They have won two of their last three away games and only two other teams have scored more goals on the road, but no other team has conceded more. They had lost two games in a row before beating Newcastle and only two other teams have conceded more goals.

Patrick Bamford and Stuart Dallas are probably the Leeds players most like to return points for fantasy managers.

I think Leicester will keep up their title challenge by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

West Ham United v Liverpool

4.30pm GMT, London Stadium, London

West Ham won 3-2 away to Palace on Tuesday night and they’re now up to fifth place in the table. Only two other teams have taken more points at home, but they have a very tough task in this game. They have won their last four games and they have kept clean sheets in three of their last five.

Michail Antonio, Tomas Soucek and Aaron Cresswell are all doing very well for fantasy managers at the moment.

Liverpool won 3-1 away to Spurs on Thursday night, but they’re still in fourth place with City four points ahead of them having played a game less. The win against Spurs was only their second away win in nine games, but only two other teams have scored more goals away from home. That win against Spurs was their first win in six games and they failed to score in four of those games, but no other team has scored more goals.

Sadio Mane looks like he might just have returned to form for fantasy managers while Mohamed Salah is always a very good choice.

I think Liverpool will bring West Ham’s winning run to an end with a narrow victory in this game.

Prediction: 1-2

Brighton And Hove Albion v Tottenham Hotspur

7.15pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton drew 0-0 at home to Fulham on Wednesday night to move five points clear of the bottom three. They’re the only team without a home win, but no other team has drawn more games on their own ground. They have only won once in their last 11 games, but no other team has drawn more games.

I can’t see any Brighton players who might make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

Spurs lost 3-1 at home to Liverpool in midweek and they dropped down to sixth place. Only three other teams have taken more points away from home and only two other teams have scored more goals on their travels. They have only won twice in their last eight games, but only City have conceded less goals.

With Harry Kane injured it looks like Heung-Min Son is the only Spurs player to recommend to fantasy managers even if he hasn’t done so well in recent weeks.

I think Spurs should be able to take the three points in this game despite the absence of Kane.

Prediction: 1-2

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
