Saturday October 5
Brighton And Hove Albion v Tottenham Hotspur
12.30pm BST, AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Brighton lost 2-0 away to Chelsea last week and they’re now only one point above the relegation zone. They haven’t won at home yet with only Newcastle scoring less goals on their own patch. They haven’t won since their opening game and only the bottom two teams have scored less goals.
Matt Ryan is probably the only Brighton player who might be of interest to fantasy managers.
Spurs won 2-1 at home to Southampton last week despite playing for an hour with 10 men and they’re only one point off the top four. They haven’t won away from home so far, but this game must give them a very good chance to get that first away win. Only the top two have scored more goals, but their confidence took a beating when they lost 7-2 at home to Bayern Munich in midweek.
Harry Kane is still the Spurs player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers with Hueng-Min Son looking pretty good too.
I think Spurs might just about manage their first away win of the season in this game.
Prediction: 1-2
Burnley v Everton
3pm BST, Turf Moor, Burnley
Burnley drew 2-2 away to Villa last week and they’re only outside the top half of the table on goal difference. They have won two of their three home games and they kept clean sheets in those two wins as well. They haven’t lost in their last three games and they will fancy their chances at home to an Everton team who don’t travel too well.
Ashley Barnes has been the Burnley player to have for fantasy managers so far even if he hasn’t scored in three games while Erik Peters, Nick Pope, Chris Wood and Dwight McNeil are all worth considering too.
Everton lost 3-1 at home to City last week and that defeat saw them drop to 15th in the table. They have only taken one point away from home so far and no other team has scored less goals on the road. They have lost their last three games and they conceded eight goals in the process.
Richarlison has been the best of the Everton players for fantasy managers so far with Lucas Digne doing reasonably well too.
I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Burnley winning it.
Prediction: 2-1
Liverpool v Leicester City
3pm BST, Anfield, Liverpool
Liverpool just about managed a 1-0 win away to Sheffield United last week to maintain their 100% start to the season. They’re the only team to have won all of their home games with only City scoring more goals on their own patch. They have only kept two clean sheets so far with only City scoring more goals and no other team conceding less.
Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are all doing very well for fantasy managers while their defenders aren’t doing too badly either.
Leicester won 5-0 at home to 10 man Newcastle last week to stay third in the table. They lost their last away game at United and Liverpool will be an even tougher task, but only Liverpool have conceded less goals away from home. That defeat at United was their only defeat so far and no other team has conceded less goals.
There are plenty of Leicester players for fantasy managers to choose from with Jamie Vardy, Ricardo Pereira, James Maddison and Youri Tielemans all worth a punt.
I think Liverpool will continue their perfect start to the season with another three points in this game.
Prediction: 2-0
Norwich City v Aston Villa
3pm BST, Carrow Road, Norwich
Norwich lost 2-0 away to Palace last week and they’re only one point and one place above the bottom three. They have won two of their three home games though which included a win against the reigning champions and only three teams have scored more goals at home. They have lost four of their last five games and they conceded 11 goals in those games with only Watford conceding more goals.
Teemu Pukki, Todd Cantwell and Emiliano Buendia have all done very well for fantasy managers, but only when Norwich are at home.
Villa drew 2-2 at home to Burnley last week, but that point wasn’t enough to take them out of the relegation zone. They’re one of two teams without an away point so far and they will hope to change that against another one of the promoted teams. They need to take something from this game and the game at home to Brighton next time out as they have two very tough games to follow them.
John McGinn has been the outstanding Villa player for fantasy managers while Tyrone Mings hasn’t done too badly either.
I think this will be a close game with a fair few goals and Norwich will probably manage a narrow victory.
Prediction: 3-2
Watford v Sheffield United
3pm BST, Vicarage Road, Watford
Watford lost 2-0 away to Wolves last week and they’re still rooted to the foot of the table. No other team has taken less points or conceded more goals at home. They’re the only team without a win and no other team has scored less or conceded more goals.
I can’t see any Watford players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
United were a little unlucky to lose 1-0 at home to Liverpool last week, but they’re still three points clear of the bottom three. They’re still unbeaten away from home with only Liverpool conceding less goals on their travels. Only Liverpool and Leicester have conceded less goals and they will think they can continue their good away form in this game.
All of United’s defenders and keeper are worth considering for fantasy managers with John Lundstram probably the pick of them.
I think Watford will just about manage to get their third point of the season with a draw in this game.
Prediction: 1-1
West Ham United v Crystal Palace
5.30pm BST, London Stadium, London
West Ham drew 2-2 away to Bournemouth last week and that point was enough to keep them in fifth place. Since losing their opening home game against City they have won their last two at home without conceding a goal. They haven’t lost since that defeat to City and they have kept clean sheets in three of their last four games.
Lukasz Fabianski is the pick of the bunch as usual for fantasy managers in the West Ham team while both Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko are worth considering too.
Palace won 2-0 at home to Norwich last week and they’re only one point off the top four. They had a very good away record last season, but they have lost two away games already this season with only three teams scoring less goals on their travels. They have kept clean sheets in three of their seven games, but only three other teams have scored less goals.
Palace’s defenders have done quite well for fantasy managers so far with Patrick van Aanholt probably the pick of them.
I have a feeling Palace’s ability to play on the break might just see them take the three points in this game.
Prediction: 1-2
Sunday October 6
Arsenal v Bournemouth
2pm BST, Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal came from behind to get a 1-1 draw at United last week to just about hold on to fourth place. They’re still unbeaten at home, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet at home yet. They have scored in every game so far, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet since their opening game.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the Arsenal player to have for fantasy managers at the moment.
Bournemouth drew 2-2 at home to West Ham last week and they’re only one point off the top four and one point behind Arsenal. They have won two of their three away games with only three other teams scoring more away goals. They have scored and conceded in each of their games so far with only four other teams conceding more goals.
Callum Wilson is the Bournemouth player to have for fantasy managers with returns in each of his seven games so far.
I think Arsenal should be strong enough at home to take the three points in this game.
Prediction: 3-1
Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers
2pm BST, Etihad Stadium, Manchester
City won 3-1 away to Everton last week to stay in second place five points behind Liverpool. They have scored more home goals than any other team with only Palace conceding less goals at home. They’re the highest scorers with only Liverpool and Leicester conceding less goals, but the points they have dropped will make their task of catching Liverpool tougher.
If he’s fit to play Kevin de Bruyne is the pick of the City players for fantasy managers with Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez all looking very good too.
Wolves won 2-0 at home to Watford last week and it was their first win of the season. They have drawn two of their three away games, but a trip to City is a daunting task for any team. The win last week moved them out of the bottom three, but they could be sliding back down the table after this game.
Matt Doherty might just be showing some of last season’s form for fantasy managers, but Wolves players might not be the best option this week.
I think City will keep up the pressure on Liverpool by taking the three points with a couple of goals to spare.
Prediction: 3-1
Southampton v Chelsea
2pm BST, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton
Southampton lost 2-1 away to Spurs last week despite playing against 10 men for an hour and they’re now only two points above the bottom three. They haven’t won at home yet and only three other teams have scored less goals at home. Anything they can get from this game would be a bonus, but it won’t be easy for them.
I’m not sure there are any Southampton players to interest fantasy managers at the moment.
Chelsea won 2-0 at home to Brighton last week and they’re one of a few teams one point off the top four. They have won their last two away games and scored eight goals in the process after losing their first away game 4-0 at United. Only the top two have scored more goals, but only Watford and Norwich have conceded more.
Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount are the Chelsea players doing the business for fantasy managers at the moment while Callum Hudson-Odoi could be an option too.
I think this will be a very close game with Chelsea probably winning by the odd goal.
Prediction: 1-2
Newcastle United v Manchester United
4.30pm BST, St. James’s Park, Newcastle
Newcastle lost 5-0 away to Leicester last week after going down to 10 men and they’re still in the relegation zone. They haven’t won a home game yet with no other scoring less goals at home and only Palace conceding less. No other team has scored less goals with only Watford and Norwich conceding more.
Fabian Schar is the only Newcastle player for fantasy managers to even consider.
United drew 1-1 at home to Watford last week and they have had their worst start to a season in 30 years. They haven’t won away from yet, but only three teams have conceded less goals on their travels. They have only won once in their last six games and they only scored five goals in those games.
Marcus Rashford is still the United player most likely to perform for fantasy managers while Daniel James and David de Gea haven’t done too badly either.
I think Newcastle will make things tough for United, but United will take the three points.
Prediction: 1-2
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
