Saturday March 2
Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal
12.30pm GMT, Wembley Stadium, London
12.30pm GMT, Wembley Stadium, London
Spurs lost 2-0 away to Chelsea on Wednesday night and any lingering hopes of a title challenge disappeared with that defeat. They have won their last three home games, but they have lost four of their 13 at home so far. They have lost their last two games after winning the previous four and they have lost more games than the rest of the top six.
Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Christian Eriksen are still the Spurs players to have for fantasy managers.
Arsenal won 5-1 at home to Bournemouth on Wednesday night to hold on to fourth place and even move within four points of Spurs. They have only won once in their last seven away games and they have conceded more away goals than the rest of the top six. They have won five of their last six games with only the top two scoring more goals.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac are the Arsenal players to have at the moment for fantasy managers while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and Laurent Koscielny haven’t done too badly either.
This is a huge game for both teams and it could go either way, but my Arsenal heart means I’m predicting a narrow win for them.
Prediction: 1-2
Bournemouth v Manchester City
3pm GMT, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth
Bournemouth v Manchester City
3pm GMT, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth
Bournemouth lost 5-1 away to Arsenal on Wednesday night and that defeat saw them drop into the bottom half of the table. Only the top six have taken more points at home and only four other teams have scored more goals at home. They have lost 12 of their last 18 games with only Fulham and Cardiff conceding more goals.
Josh King is still the Bournemouth player most likely to perform for fantasy managers, but David Brooks has to be considered too as he has just returned from injury.
City just about managed a 1-0 win at home To West Ham on Wednesday night to stay hot on the heels of Liverpool at the top of the table. They have won three of their last four away games with only Spurs and United scoring more goals on the road and only Liverpool conceding less. They have won eight of their last nine games and kept clean sheets in their last three with no other team scoring more goals and only Liverpool conceding less.
If Gabrielle Jesus is still injured then Sergio Aguero is the City player to have for fantasy managers and after that surely Raheem Sterling will play as he didn’t start on Wednesday night.
I think City will continue their pursuit of Liverpool by winning this game by at least a couple of goals.
Prediction: 1-3
Brighton And Hove Albion v Huddersfield Town
3pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Brighton lost 2-1 away to Leicester on Tuesday night and they’re now only two points above the bottom three. They have only won once in their last six home games with only Huddersfield and Palace scoring less goals at home. They have only taken two points in their last seven games and they need a win very soon to halt their slide.
This could be a game where Glenn Murray is the Brighton player to have for fantasy managers.
Huddersfield got a last minute goal to win 1-0 away to Wolves on Tuesday night, but they’re still firmly rooted to the foot of the table. Only Fulham have taken less points away from home and no other team has scored less goals on their travels. Their win against Wolves was their first win in 15 games and they’re still certain to get relegated.
I still can’t see any Huddersfield players to interest fantasy managers.
I think Brighton will get a much needed win to ease their relegation worries in this game.
Prediction: 2-0
Burnley v Crystal Palace
3pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley
3pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley
Burnley lost 2-0 away to Newcastle on Tuesday night, but they’re still five points above the bottom three. They have taken 10 points in their last four home games, but only Cardiff and Fulham have conceded more goals at home. That defeat at Newcastle was their first defeat in nine games and they’re still on an upward trajectory despite that setback.
Both Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes have done very well for fantasy managers in recent weeks and they’re both relatively cheap options too.
Palace lost 3-1 at home to United on Wednesday night, but they’re still five points above the bottom three. They have taken 10 points and scored 13 goals in their last five away games and that’s more goals than they have scored in their 14 home games. They have taken 18 points from their last five games to move up the table and a few more wins should see them safe for another season.
Luka Milivojevic and Wilfried Zaha could be the Palace players for fantasy managers to watch in this game.
I think this will be a very close game and the chances are it will end all square.
Prediction: 1-1
Manchester United v Southampton
3pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester
United won 3-1 away to Palace on Wednesday night to stay one point behind Arsenal in fifth place and only five points off third place. They have only lost one of their 13 home games, but only Southampton have drawn more home games. They have taken 29 points from the 33 available to them since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the reins and they scored 26 goals in those 11 games.
Paul Pogba is still the United player to have for fantasy managers while Marcus Rashford is in good form too if he’s fit to play, but Romelu Lukaku might just be the one to watch.
Southampton got a much needed 2-0 win at home to Fulham on Wednesday night to move above Cardiff and out of the bottom three. They have only lost once in their last five away games and they have taken almost as many points on the road as they have at home. They have only won once in their last five games though and they still have a lot to do to make sure they beat the drop.
Nathan Redmond is available at a good price and still the most likely Southampton player to make a difference for fantasy managers, but maybe not in this game.
I can’t see anything other than a United win in this game.
Prediction: 3-1
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Cardiff City
3pm GMT, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton
Wolves lost 1-0 away to bottom club Huddersfield on Tuesday night, but they moved up to seventh place after Watford were thrashed by Liverpool. They have only taken slightly more points at home than they have away from home, but they have taken seven points from their last three home games. The defeat against Huddersfield was their first defeat in six games, but they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 12 games.
Just when you think Wolves players are very good purchases for fantasy managers they lose to Huddersfield, but surely Raul Jiminez and Matt Doherty will redeem themselves in this game.
Cardiff lost 3-0 at home to Leicester on Tuesday night and that defeat dropped them into the bottom three after Southampton beat Fulham the following night. Only Fulham and Huddersfield have taken less points on the road and only Huddersfield have scored less goals, but they did win their last away game at Southampton. They conceded eight goals in losing their last two games and only Fulham have conceded more goals with only Huddersfield scoring less.
I can’t see any Cardiff players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Wolves will get back to winning ways with a win by at least a couple of goals in this game.
Prediction: 2-0
West Ham United v Newcastle United
5.30pm GMT, London Stadium, London
5.30pm GMT, London Stadium, London
West Ham narrowly lost 1-0 away to City on Wednesday night, but they’re still just about in the top half of the table. They have taken eight points in their last four home games including games against Liverpool and Arsenal. They have only won once in their last six games, but they have a run of games coming up which could see them do quite well.
I’m still not sure there are any West Ham players to recommend to fantasy managers, but maybe Lukasz Fabianski could be worth a punt.
Newcastle won 2-0 at home to Burnley on Tuesday night and they’re now six points above the relegation zone. They have only won two of their 13 away games, but no other team has drawn more away games and only Liverpool and City have conceded less goals on their travels. They have taken 13 points from their last six games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games.
Newcastle’s defenders have done well recently with Fabian Schar worth considering for fantasy managers while both Solomon Rondon and Isaac Hayden haven’t done too badly either.
I think this will be a very close game with the spoils most likely shared.
Prediction: 1-1
Sunday March 3
Sunday March 3
Watford v Leicester City
12pm GMT, Vicarage Road, Watford
Watford were thrashed 5-0 at Liverpool on Wednesday night and they dropped back to eighth place on goal difference behind Wolves. They have taken eight points from their last five home games and kept clean sheets in their last two at home. Their defeat against Liverpool was only their second defeat in nine games and only the top six have scored more goals.
Despite their heavy defeat to Liverpool there are still a few Watford players for fantasy managers to consider such as Jose Holebas and Gerard Deulofeu.
Leicester won 2-1 at home to Brighton on Tuesday night, but they’re still just about in the bottom half of the table. They have only taken one point from their last three away games and they conceded eight goals in those games, but they have taken more points on the road than they have at home this season. They had only taken one point in six games before beating Brighton and they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 10 games.
With a new man at the helm Jamie Vardy and James Maddison might be worth considering again for fantasy managers.
I think this will be a close game with Watford probably getting the better of proceedings.
Prediction: 2-1
Fulham v Chelsea
2:05pm GMT, Craven Cottage, London
Fulham lost 2-0 away to Southampton on Wednesday night and they’re now 10 points from safety with only 10 games to play which meant they parted ways with their second manager of the season. They lost their last home game against United and their next three home games are against Chelsea, Liverpool and City so they could be in for a tough time. They have lost their last four games and they only scored one goal in those games with no other team conceding more goals and only Huddersfield and Cardiff scoring less.
Maybe some of the Fulham players might shine for a new manager, but I can’t see it happening in this game.
Chelsea won 2-0 at home to Spurs on Wednesday night to keep in touch in the battle for a top four finish. They have lost their last three away games without scoring a goal and they conceded 12 goals in those games, but only four other teams have taken more points away from home. They have lost three of their last five games and they were all away from home, but they will still think they can win away to struggling Fulham.
Chelsea’s defenders have done well recently for fantasy managers with a few notable exceptions and David Luiz could be worth a shot along with maybe Eden Hazard or Pedro.
I think Chelsea will put their away day blues behind them by taking the three points in this game.
Prediction: 1-3
Everton v Liverpool
4:15pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool
4:15pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool
Everton won away to Cardiff on Tuesday night to move back into the top half of the table. They have lost four of their last five home games and they conceded 12 goals in those games and it won’t get any easier for them in this game. They have lost six of their last nine games, but they’re still within four points of seventh place.
Despite their win at Cardiff on Tuesday night I’m still not sure there are any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers.
Liverpool won 5-0 at home to Cardiff on Wednesday night to significantly improve their goal difference and stay one point ahead of City at the top of the table. They have only won once in their last four away games, but no other team has conceded less goals away from home. They have only won two of their last five games, but they did draw the other three and no other team has conceded less goals with only City scoring more.
Sadio Mane looks like the best choice in the Liverpool team for fantasy managers at the moment and he’s closely followed by all of their defenders while Mohamed Salah has gone off the boil recently.
I think this will be a close game, but Liverpool will keep a hold of top spot with a narrow victory.
Prediction: 1-2
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
