Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 28

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did quite well at the weekend with two perfect predictions, four correct outcomes and only two incorrect outcomes. but I only moved up one place in my predictions league. Here's a look at how the top five in that league stands with me still nowhere in sight (95 points off fifth place).

Tuesday February 26

Cardiff City v Everton

7.45pm GMT, Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff

Cardiff lost 5-1 at home to Watford on Friday night, but they stayed out of the bottom three when Southampton were beaten by Arsenal. They have only won once in their last five home games and they conceded 13 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals at home. They have taken 11 points from their last nine games to just about stay above the relegation zone, but only Fulham have conceded more goals with only Huddersfield and Newcastle scoring less.

I can’t see any Cardiff players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Everton didn’t play at the weekend, but their defeat away to Watford the previous week leaves them just about in the bottom half of the table. They have lost three of their last four away games, but this is one away game they can surely target for a win. They have lost their last three games and they only scored one goal in those games.

I don't think it's a great idea for fantasy managers to have Everton players in their teams at the moment, but maybe some of them might perform in this game.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn't be surprised to see Cardiff take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Huddersfield Town v Wolverhampton Wanderers

7.45pm GMT, John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield

Huddersfield lost 2-0 away to Newcastle on Saturday after going down to 10 men early on and their relegation gets closer with each passing game. They have lost their last seven home games and no other team has scored less goals at home. They have only taken one point in their last 14 games and they failed to score in eight of those games with no other team scoring less goals and only Fulham and Cardiff conceding more.

I can't see any Huddersfield players to recommend to fantasy managers.

Wolves drew 1-1 away to Bournemouth on Saturday, but that point meant they fell behind Watford on goal difference and back into eighth place. They have only lost once in their last six away games with only six other teams taking more points on the road. They're unbeaten in five games and they scored 12 goals in those games, but they are the lowest scorers in the top half of the table.

Raul Jiminez and Matt Doherty continue to impress week after week for fantasy managers while Joao Moutinho has done well recently too.

I think Wolves should be fairly comfortable winners in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Leicester City v Brighton And Hove Albion

7.45pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester lost 4-1 at home to Palace on Saturday and that defeat ultimately cost Claude Puel his job as they continue to languish in the bottom half of the table. They have lost their last four home games and only three other teams have taken less points at home. They have only taken one point in their last six games and they conceded seven goals in their last two games.

I can't see any Leicester players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment, but that could change when there is a new man at the helm.

Brighton didn’t play at the weekend, but their home defeat against Burnley in their last game means they're only three points above the relegation zone. They have only taken one point in their last five away games with only Fulham and Huddersfield taking less points on their travels. They haven't won in six games and they need to improve their league form or their cup run might just cost them a place in the top flight.

I don't see any Brighton players making a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Leicester will just about temporarily put their troubles behind them by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-1

Newcastle United v Burnley

8pm GMT, St. James’s Park, Newcastle

Newcastle won 2-0 at home to Huddersfield on Saturday to give themselves four points to spare over the bottom three. Only Huddersfield have lost more home games than Newcastle, but they have won their last three at home and kept clean sheets in three of the last five at home. They have taken 10 points in their last five games, but only Huddersfield have scored less goals so far.

Solomon Rondon is probably the only Newcastle player for fantasy managers to consider although Isaac Hayden has done well in recent weeks too.

Burnley had a very impressive 2-1 win at home to Spurs on Saturday and they're now six points above the bottom three with the top half of the table beckoning. They have taken eight points and scored seven goals in their last four away games, but only four other teams have conceded more goals on their travels. They are unbeaten in eight games including games against Spurs and United and they kept clean sheets in two of those games.

Both Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes are doing very well for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think this will be a close game and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Wednesday February 27

Arsenal v Bournemouth

7.45pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal won 2-0 at home to Southampton on Sunday to move above United into the top four. They have won their last seven home games with only City taking more points at home and only City and Liverpool scoring more home goals. They have won four of their last five games with only the top two scoring more goals, but they have conceded more goals than the rest of the top six.

Alexandre Lacazette looks like the Arsenal player to have at the moment for fantasy managers with Sead Kolasinac and Henrikh Mkhitaryan worth considering too.

Bournemouth drew 1-1 at home to Wolves on Saturday and that point was enough to move them into the top half of the table. They have lost their last eight away games and they conceded 23 goals in the process with only Fulham conceding more goals on the road. They haven’t won in three games and they have conceded more goals than any other team in the top half of the table.

Josh King is the Bournemouth player to have for fantasy managers at the moment with both Callum Wilson and David Brooks both still injured.

I think Arsenal’s home form should be enough to see them take the three points in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Southampton v Fulham

7.45pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton lost 2-0 at Arsenal on Sunday and that defeat kept them just about in the relegation zone. They have lost three of their last five home games with only Huddersfield taking less points on their own ground. They haven’t won in four games and they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 17 games.

I’ve being plugging Nathan Redmond to fantasy managers for a few weeks now, but he hasn’t really done too much.

Fulham led at West Ham on Friday night, but they ended up losing 3-1 and relegation is looking more or less inevitable for them now. They’re the only team without a win away from home and no other team has conceded more away goals with only Huddersfield scoring less. They have lost nine of their last 14 games and no other team has conceded more goals.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is the only Fulham player for fantasy managers to possibly consider and he could do well in this game.

I think Southampton will get a much needed win to ease their relegation worries in this game.

Prediction: 2-1

Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur

8pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea didn’t play at the weekend as they were busy losing the Carabao Cup Final to City on penalties, but they lost 6-0 away to the same opponents the previous week to drop to sixth in the league. They have only lost one home game so far with only Liverpool conceding less goals at home. They have only taken seven points in their last six games and they conceded 13 goals in those games despite keeping clean sheets in three of their last seven games.

Eden Hazard and Gonzalo Higuain could be the Chelsea players to have for fantasy managers, but the whole team has been very inconsistent recently.

Spurs lost 2-1 away to Burnley on Saturday and missed their chance to move within three points of Liverpool at the top of the table. They have taken more points and scored more goals away from home than any other team and they had won four in a row away from home before losing to Burnley. Only City have won more games, but they have lost more games than the rest of the top six with only the top two scoring more goals.

With Harry Kane back from injury he’s the Spurs player to have for fantasy managers and he’s being ably assisted by Heung-Min Son and Christian Eriksen.

I think this is a game which could go either way, but a draw is the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Crystal Palace v Manchester United

8pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London

Palace won 4-1 away to Leicester on Saturday to give themselves six points to spare over the bottom three. Only Huddersfield and Southampton have taken less points at home and only Huddersfield have scored less goals on their own patch, but only four teams have conceded less goals at home. They’re unbeaten in four games, but they have taken more points and scored more goals on their travels than they have at home.

Luka Milivojevic seems to be the Palace player to have for fantasy managers at the moment while Wilfried Zaha is doing quite well right now too.

United could only draw 0-0 at home to Liverpool on Sunday after being hampered by some early injuries and that point wasn't enough to keep them in the top four. They have won their last five away games and kept clean sheets in their last four on the road with only Spurs scoring more away goals. They have taken 26 points from their last 10 games and they have kept five clean sheets in their last seven games.

Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford (if he’s fit) are the United players to have for fantasy managers at the moment while their defenders and keeper have done well recently too.

I think Palace will give United a run for their money, but United will narrowly take the three points.

Prediction: 1-2

Liverpool v Watford

8pm GMT, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool could only draw 0-0 away to United on Sunday, but it did at least move them one point clear of City at the top of the table. They’re the only team still unbeaten at home with only City taking more points and scoring more goals on their own ground and they have conceded less goals at home than any other team. They have drawn three of their last four games though and no other team has conceded less goals with only City scoring more.

Sadio Mane looks like the Liverpool player to have for fantasy managers while Mohamed Salah and all of their defenders and keeper are very good choices too.

Watford had a very good 5-1 win away to Cardiff on Friday night and that win moved them ahead of Wolves into seventh place on goal difference. They have only lost once in their last seven away games with only five other teams taking more points on the road. They have only lost twice in their last 12 games and they only failed to score in two of those games.

It would probably be a knee jerk reaction for fantasy managers to bring Gerard Deulofeu or Troy Deeney into their teams and in this game in particular, but it’s hard to ignore their performances from last week.

I think Liverpool will get a much needed win in this game, but Watford won’t make it easy for them.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester City v West Ham United

8pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City didn't play in the league at the weekend and while they were lifting the Carabao Cup Liverpool went a point ahead of them at the top of the table. They have won their last four home games and have taken more points and scored more goals at home than any other team. They have won six of their last seven games and no other team has scored more goals with only Liverpool conceding less.

It’s still not easy to be sure which City players will play from game to game, but surely Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have to be almost must haves for fantasy managers.

West Ham won 3-1 at home to Fulham after going behind early on, but they were helped by a handball goal from Javier Hernandez. They have only taken one point and scored one goal in their last four away games which doesn’t auger well for a trip to City. They are unbeaten in three games though, but that run will surely end in this game.

I can’t see any West Ham players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment and in this match in particular.

I think City should have more than enough to win this game comfortably.

Prediction: 3-0

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
