Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 27

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t do too well last week with one perfect prediction, three correct outcomes and six incorrect outcomes which saw me lose a little more ground in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands. Just a quick reminder too for fantasy managers that there are four teams without a game this week thanks to the Carabao Cup final.

Friday February 22

Cardiff City v Watford

7.45pm GMT, Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff

Cardiff won 2-1 away to Southampton in their last game to move above them and out of the bottom three. They have taken 16 points from their last nine home games, but only Fulham have conceded more goals at home. They have won their last two games to climb out of the relegation zone, but only two teams have conceded more goals and only Huddersfield and Newcastle have scored less.

Neil Etheridge has been the best of the Cardiff players for fantasy managers and he’s certainly worth considering.

Watford won 1-0 at home to Everton last week to move within two points of seventh placed Wolves. They have only lost one of their last six away games and that was at Spurs, but only Newcastle have drawn more games on the road. They have only lost twice in their last 11 games, but only Southampton have drawn more games.

With Jose Holebas suspended Ben Foster or Craig Cathcart could be potential options for fantasy managers.

I think this will be a close game with Watford probably winning by the odd goal.

Prediction: 1-2

West Ham United v Fulham

7.45pm GMT, London Stadium, London

West Ham drew 1-1 away to Palace in their last game to move into the top half of the table on goal difference from Bournemouth. They have only lost once in their last six home games and they have lost as many games as they have won at home. They have only won once in their last seven games and they have conceded more goals than any other team in the top half of the table.

I'm not convinced by West Ham players in general, but maybe fantasy managers should consider Felipe Anderson or Lukasz Fabianski seeming as they're at home to Fulham.

Fulham lost 3-0 at home to United in their last game and they're now eight points from safety with games running out and some very tough home games to come. They're the only team without an away win and they have conceded more goals away from home than any other team as well as being the joint lowest scorers away from home. They have lost five of their last six games and no other team has conceded more goals.

I can't see any Fulham players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

I think West Ham should win this game with at least a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 2-0

Saturday February 23

Burnley v Tottenham Hotspur

12.30pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley won 3-1 away to Brighton last time out to move three points clear of the bottom three. Only three other teams have won less games at home and only Fulham and Cardiff have conceded more goals at home, but they have taken 10 points from their last five games on their own patch. They're unbeaten in seven games, but only two other teams have conceded more goals.

Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood have both done well for fantasy managers in recent weeks and they're worth keeping an eye on.

Spurs won 3-1 at home to Leicester last week and they're only five points off the top of the table with a game in hand. They have taken more points and scored more goals away from home than any other team with only Liverpool and City conceding less goals on the road. They have won 10 of their last 12 games and only the two teams above them have scored more and conceded less goals.

If he's fit to return Harry Kane has to be a consideration for fantasy managers, but in his absence Heung-Min Son and Christian Eriksen are the Spurs players to have.

As well as Burnley have done recently I think this will be too much of a challenge for them and Spurs will win by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 1-3

Bournemouth v Wolverhampton Wanderers

3pm GMT, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth

Bournemouth lost 3-0 away to Liverpool last week and that defeat dropped them into the bottom half of the table on goal difference. They have taken 10 points from their last four home games and only the top six teams have taken more points at home. They have shipped a lot of goals away from home in particular with only the bottom two conceding more goals.

With Callum Wilson and David Brooks both injured it looks like Josh King could be the Bournemouth player to have for fantasy managers.

Wolves drew 1-1 at home to Newcastle in their last game thanks to a very late equaliser and that point kept them seventh in the table. They have taken 10 points from their last five away games with only five other teams taking more points away from home and only three teams conceding less away goals. They have taken 10 points and scored 11 goals in their last four games and they have some good fixtures coming up.

Raul Jiminez is the Wolves player to have for fantasy managers while Matt Doherty (if he’s fit) and Joao Moutinho are pretty good options too.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Newcastle United v Huddersfield Town

3pm Gmt, St. James's Park, Newcastle

Newcastle drew 1-1 away to Wolves in their last game and that point was enough to keep them out of the bottom three. They have won their last two home games, but only Huddersfield and Southampton have taken less points at home and only Huddersfield and Palace have scored less goals at home. They have taken seven points from their last four games, but only Huddersfield have scored less goals so far.

I’m not sure there are any Newcastle players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment, but Isaac Hayden hasn’t done badly in recent weeks.

Huddersfield lost 2-1 at home to Arsenal in their last game and they’re now 14 points from safety with 12 games left to play. They have only taken one point and scored two goals in their last six away games with only Fulham taking less points away from home and no other team scoring less goals on their travels. They have only taken one point in their last 13 games and they failed to score in seven of those games with no other team scoring less goals and only Fulham conceding more.

I can’t see any Huddersfield players to recommend to fantasy managers.

I think Newcastle will climb a little further away from the relegation zone by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-0

Leicester City v Crystal Palace

5.30pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester lost 3-1 away to Spurs in their last game and that defeat means they’re still in the bottom half of the table. They have lost their last three home games and only four other teams have taken less points at home with only three teams scoring less goals at home. They have only taken one point in their last five games and they conceded 11 goals in those games.

Despite their recent results Ricardo Pereira could be a good choice for fantasy managers when you look at their next nine fixtures.

Palace drew 1-1 at home to West Ham last week, but they’re still only three points above the bottom three. They have taken seven points from their last four away games and they have taken more points and scored more goals away from home than they have at home. They have taken 15 points from their last 10 games to gradually move away from the wrong end of the table and more of the same will see them safe for another season.

Andros Townsend and Luka Milivojevic have been the best Palace players for fantasy managers in recent weeks.

I think this will be another very close game and the chances are it will end with the spoils shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Sunday February 24

Arsenal v Southampton

2.05pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal won 2-1 away to Huddersfield in their last game and that win moved them up to fifth when City trashed Chelsea. They have won their last six home games and they scored 14 goals in those games with only the top two taking more points and scoring more goals at home. They have lost four of their last 10 games and have conceded more goals than the rest of the top six with only four clean sheets to their name so far.

Both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are definitely worth considering for fantasy managers while Sead Kolasinac should be considered too despite his own goal against Huddersfield.

Southampton lost 2-1 at home to Cardiff in their last game and that defeat saw them drop below Cardiff into the relegation zone. They are unbeaten in their last four away games and they have taken as many points away from home as they have at home. The defeat against Cardiff was their first defeat in six games and they have drawn more games than any other team.

Nathan Redmond looks like the Southampton player most likely to have an impact for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Arsenal’s home form should be enough to see them take the three points in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Manchester United v Liverpool

2.05pm GMT Old Trafford, Manchester

United won 3-0 away to Fulham in their last game to move into the top four. They have only lost one of their 12 home games and they have taken 13 points and scored 15 goals in their last five home games. They have taken 25 points and scored 23 goals in their last nine games as well as keeping four clean sheets in those games.

Both Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford are almost must haves for fantasy managers at the moment while Victor Lindelof hasn’t done too badly recently either.

Liverpool won 3-0 at home to Bournemouth in their last game and they’re only behind City at the top of the table on goal difference while they have a game in hand. They have only won once in their last three away games, but only Spurs have taken more points on the road and no other team has conceded less goals. They have only won three of their last six games after winning the previous nine and they conceded seven goals in those six games after only conceding eight in the previous 20, but they still have the best defensive record with only City scoring more goals too.

Mohamed Salah is still the player of choice for fantasy managers while Sadio Mane has done well in recent weeks and Andy Robertson can’t be ignored either.

This has the makings of a very good game and I think the chances are both teams will have to settle for a point.

Prediction: 2-2

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
