Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 21

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t do too well with my weekend predictions with two perfect predictions, two correct outcomes and six incorrect outcomes. I did move up a little in my predictions league though as others suffered too, but I’m still a fair bit off the top five in that league and here’s a look at how that top five stands.

Tuesday January 1

Everton v Leicester City

12.30pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton lost 1-0 away to Brighton on Saturday and they’re only just in the top half of the table on goal difference from West Ham. They have only lost two of their 10 home games, but they haven’t won in their last three at home. They have only won once in their last seven games and they didn’t keep a clean sheet in any of those games.

Gylfi Siggurdson was rested on Saturday so he might be a good choice for fantasy managers while Richarlison and Lucas Digne are both doing quite well too.

Leicester lost 1-0 at home to Cardiff on Saturday and they’re now seven points off the top six. They have taken as many points away from home as they have at home and they have only lost once in their last five away games. They have only scored nine goals in their last 11 games and it’s that lack of goals that is hampering their chances.

Jamie Vardy is still a possibility for fantasy managers, but they’re just not scoring enough goals for me.

I don’t think there will be too much in this game, but the chances are it will end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Arsenal v Fulham

3pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal were thrashed 5-1 away to Liverpool on Saturday and they’re now five points behind fourth placed Chelsea with United closing in quickly behind them. Only City and Liverpool have taken more home points than Arsenal and only Liverpool and Chelsea and have conceded less goals at home. They have only won four of their last 11 games, but they did draw five of those games and they have only kept three clean sheets so far.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still the only Arsenal for fantasy managers to consider at the moment.

Fulham got a crucial last minute goal to win 1-0 at home to Huddersfield on Saturday and they’re only one point away from the relative safety of 17th place. They’re the only team without an away win and no other team has conceded more or scored less goals away from home. They have taken five points from their last three games and they only conceded one goal in those games, but they have conceded more goals than any other team.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is probably the only Fulham player for fantasy managers to consider and he hasn’t done too well recently.

I think Arsenal will get back to winning ways in this game, but they won’t have it all their own way.

Prediction: 3-1

Cardiff City v Tottenham Hotspur

5.30pm GMT, Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff

Cardiff got a very important 1-0 win away to Leicester on Saturday and that win kept them three points clear of the bottom three. They have won four of their last six home games, but no other team has conceded more goals at home. They have kept clean sheets in their last two games, but they have conceded a lot of goals when they have come up against the top six.

I’m still not sure there are any Cardiff players who can make a real difference for fantasy managers, but Neil Etheridge has done pretty well in goal for them.

Spurs lost 3-1 at home to Wolves on Saturday and they’re now nine points behind Liverpool at the top of the table. They have taken more away points and scored more away goals than any other team. They still haven’t drawn a game which is why they are so high up the table despite losing five games and only the two teams above have scored more goals.

Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen are all doing really well for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Spurs will put the disappointment of Saturday’s loss behind them and win this game with a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 1-3

Wednesday January 2

Bournemouth v Watford

7.45pm GMT, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth

Bournemouth lost 4-1 away to United on Sunday as they continue to slide down the table. They have won half of their home games and they have won two of their last three at home. They have lost eight of their last 10 games and only four teams have conceded more goals.

I’m not sure Bournemouth players are the best bets for fantasy managers any more, but Callum Wilson, David Brooks and Ryan Fraser still offer some value.

Watford drew 1-1 at home to Newcastle on Saturday and that point kept them in the top half of the table. They have won as many games as they have lost away from home and only three teams have conceded less goals on the road. They have only won twice in their last 10 games and they only kept one clean sheet in those games.

Roberto Pereyra is the Watford player to have for fantasy managers.

I think this game will more than likely end with the spoils shared.

Prediction: 2-2

Chelsea v Southampton

7.45pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea won 1-0 away to Palace on Sunday to move within two points of third placed Spurs. They have only lost one of their 10 home games and only Liverpool have conceded less goals at home. They have lost three of their last eight games with only Liverpool conceding less goals.

Eden Hazard and Marcus Alonso are still the best Chelsea players to have for fantasy managers.

Southampton lost 3-1 at home to City on Sunday and they’re now only outside the bottom three on goal difference. Only Fulham have lost more away games and only Fulham and Bournemouth have conceded more goals on the road. They have lost their last two games after winning the previous two and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 10 games.

Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond are probably the best bets in the Southampton team for fantasy managers, but maybe not in this game.

I think Chelsea should win this game with at least a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 2-0

Huddersfield Town v Burnley

7.45pm GMT, John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield

Huddersfield lost 1-0 away to Fulham on Saturday and they’re still rooted to the foot of the table. They have taken less points and scored less goals at home than any other team. They have lost their last seven games and they only scored four goals in those games with no other team scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Huddersfield players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Burnley got a very important 2-0 win at home to West Ham on Sunday and they’re only in the bottom three on goal difference now. Only Fulham have taken less points away from home and they’ve only scored one goal in their last four away games. The win against West Ham was only their second win in 13 games with only Fulham conceding more goals.

I can’t see any Burnley players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment either.

This is a real relegation six pointer and I think it might just go the way of Burnley.

Prediction: 0-1

West Ham United v Brighton And Hove Albion

7.45pm GMT, London Stadium, London

West Ham lost 2-0 away to Burnley on Sunday and that defeat saw them drop into the bottom half of the table. They have lost half of their 10 home games, but they have won three of their last five at home. They have won five of their last seven games, but they failed to score in two of their last three games.

Felipe Anderson is still the West Ham player most likely to appeal to fantasy managers.

Brighton won 1-0 at home to Everton on Saturday and that win moved them within two points of the top half of the table. Only the top six have taken more points at home than Brighton and they have taken 14 points from their last seven home games. The win against Everton was their first win in five games and their first clean sheet in 10 games.

I’m not sure there are any Brighton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Brighton will give West Ham a tough time, but West Ham should just about win.

Prediction: 2-0

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Crystal Palace

7.45pm GMT, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton

Wolves had a very impressive 3-1 win away to Spurs on Saturday to move up to seventh place. They have lost as many home games as they have won and only four teams have scored less goals at home. They have won four of their last six games, but they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 12 games.

Both Matt Doherty and Raul Jiminez have done very well for fantasy managers and they still don’t cost too much.

Palace lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea on Sunday and they’re only four points above the bottom three. They have taken more points and scored more goals away from home than they have at home. They have the best defensive record in the bottom half of the table, but only two other teams have scored less goals.

Palace defenders have done reasonably well for fantasy managers and they’re available at a pretty good price too.

I think this will be a low scoring game with Wolves probably taking all three points.

Prediction: 1-0

Newcastle United v Manchester United

8pm GMT, St. James’s Park, Newcastle

Newcastle drew 1-1 away to Watford on Saturday to stay three points clear of the relegation zone. No other team have lost more home games and only Huddersfield have taken less points at home. They have only won once in their last seven games and they failed to score in three of those games.

I can’t see any Newcastle players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment with the possible exception of Solomon Rondon.

United cruised to a 4-1 home win against Bournemouth on Sunday and they’re now only three points behind fifth placed Arsenal. They have lost as many games as they have won away from home and they have only kept one clean sheet on the road. They have won their last three games and they scored 12 goals in those games, but they have only kept two clean sheets in their 20 games.

Paul Pogba seems an absolute must for fantasy managers at the moment with Marcos Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jessie Lingard good options too.

I think United’s recovery under their new manager will continue with another win in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Thursday January 3

Manchester City v Liverpool

8pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City put their recent troubles behind them by winning 3-1 away to Southampton on Sunday to move up to second place, but they’re still seven points behind Liverpool going into this game. Only Liverpool have taken more home points than City and they are the highest scorers at home, but they did lose their last home game after leading against Palace. They have lost three of their last five games, but they are still the highest scorers with only Liverpool conceding less goals.

Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, David Silva and maybe Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane are all worth considering for fantasy managers if they can figure out City’s rotation policy.

Liverpool thrashed Arsenal 5-1 on Saturday to move seven points clear at the top of the table and they’re the only team with a 100% record over the festive season so far. Only Spurs have taken more away points and no other team has conceded less goals on the road. They’re the only team still unbeaten and they have conceded less goals than any other team as well as winning their last nine games and only conceding three goals in those games.

Mohamed Salah is the Liverpool player fantasy managers just have to have in their teams with all of their defenders and keeper top picks too.

This is a huge game at the top of the table and one which City really need to win which leads me to believe they will just about do so.

Prediction: 2-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
