Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Eight

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did quite well last week with two perfect predictions, five correct outcomes and three incorrect outcomes which saw me move up a little in my predictions league, but I’m still a little behind the leaders. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

Friday October 5

Brighton And Hove Albion v West Ham United

8pm BST, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton lost 2-0 away to City last week and they were probably lucky it wasn’t more. They took almost all of their points last season at home and they will need to take a lot at home this season to stay up judging by their away results so far. They haven’t won in five games and they haven’t keep any clean sheets yet.

Glen Murray is the Brighton player most likely to perform for fantasy managers and particularly when they are at home.

West Ham had a great 3-1 win at home to United last week as they continue to climb away from the wrong end of the table. They won their last away game after losing their first two away games against Liverpool and Arsenal and only Huddersfield and Fulham have conceded more away goals. They won their last away game at Everton after losing their first two away games and only Fulham and Huddersfield have conceded more away goals.

Marco Arnautovic continues to impress for fantasy managers while Andriy Yarmolenko and Lukasz Fabianski are worth considering too.

I don’t think there will be too much between the teams and I wouldn’t be surprised if this game ended all square.

Prediction: 1-1

Saturday October 6

Burnley v Huddersfield Town

3pm BST, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley won 2-1 away to Cardiff last week for their second win in a row. They took less points at home than they did away from home last season and it looks like that could be the case again this season. They have won their last two games and scored six goals in them after only taking one point and scoring three goals from their first five games.

Joe Hart has been the most impressive Burnley player for fantasy managers so far and Johann Berg Gudmundsson has done very well too.

Huddersfield lost 2-0 at home to Spurs last week and they’re still waiting for their first win. No other team has taken less points on the road and only Fulham have conceded more goals on their travels. No other team has taken less points, scored less goals or conceded more so far.

I can’t see any Huddersfield players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Burnley should get their third win in a row with a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 2-0

Crystal Palace v Wolverhampton Wanderers

3pm BST, Selhurst Park, London

Palace lost 2-1 at Bournemouth last week thanks to a very late penalty. Only Newcastle have taken less points at home and they’re one of two teams who haven’t scored at home yet. Only the bottom three have scored less goals, but they have kept three clean sheets too.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka still looks like the best value fantasy option in the Palace team.

Wolves won 2-0 at home to Southampton last week to make it five games unbeaten. Only two teams have scored less goals away from home, but only three teams have conceded less. They have taken 11 points and kept three clean sheets in their last five games.

The Wolves defenders are all looking like very good options for fantasy managers at the moment with Raul Jiminez not a bad choice either.

I think this will be a close game, but I think Wolves might just get the better of Palace.

Prediction: 0-1

Leicester City v Everton

3pm BST, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester won 2-0 away to Newcastle last week and they’re only three points behind the top four. They have won two of their three home games and they have a good run of home games coming up. They have scored in every game they have played and they look capable of possibly climbing further up the table.

James Maddison is the Leicester player fantasy managers need to have in their teams and Jamie Vardy isn’t doing too badly either.

Everton won 3-0 at home to Fulham last week for only their second win of the season. They haven’t won away from home yet and their away record was pretty poor last season too. Last week’s game was their first clean sheet of the season, but they have at least managed to score in all but one of their games.

Richarlison still looks like the Everton player most likely to impress for fantasy managers while Theo Walcott has done quite well too.

I think Leicester should have enough in attack to get the better of a dodgy Everton defence.

Prediction: 3-1

Tottenham Hotspur v Cardiff City

3pm BST, Wembley Stadium, London

Spurs won 2-0 away to Huddersfield last week and they face another one of the teams struggling at the wrong end of the table this week. This is only their third home game of the season and they have a 50/50 record so far with no clean sheets in those games. Only the three teams above them have scored more goals and they have scored in every game they have played.

Harry Kane is the pick of the bunch in the Spurs team for fantasy managers while Kieran Trippier is looking very good too.

Cardiff lost 2-1 at home to Burnley last week and they’re still looking for their first win of the season. No other team has scored less goals away from home and their only away point came away to fellow strugglers Huddersfield. They have failed to score in three of their seven games and they conceded 14 goals in losing their last four games.

I can’t see any Cardiff players to recommend to fantasy managers.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Spurs win in this game.

Prediction: 3-0

Watford v Bournemouth

3pm BST, Vicarage Road, Watford

Watford were a little unlucky to lose 2-0 at Arsenal last week and they dropped back to sixth place behind Arsenal. They have won three of their four home games and they have scored in all of their home games so far. The game last week was the first time they failed to score this season and they look capable of scoring against any team.

Troy Deeney, Andre Gray, Jose Holebas and Roberto Pereyra have all done well for fantasy managers so far.

Bournemouth won 2-1 at home to Palace on Monday night and they’re only behind Watford on goal difference. They have lost two of their three away games and only two teams have scored less goals away from home. Despite being so high in the table they have conceded as many goals as they have scored and only four teams have conceded more goals.

Ryan Fraser, Callum Wilson and Josh King have all done well for fantasy managers so far and they’re all still available at a good price.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 2-2

Manchester United v Newcastle United

5.30pm BST, Old Trafford, Manchester

United lost 3-1 at West Ham last week and they’re five points behind the top four. They have only won once at home so far and only two teams have scored less goals at home. They have only kept one clean sheet in their seven games and only four teams have conceded more goals.

Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku are the best fantasy picks in the United team, but it’s not easy to recommend United players at the moment.

Newcastle lost 2-0 at home to Leicester last week and they’re only off the foot of the table on goal difference. Their only points so far have come away from home, but no other team has scored less goals on the road. They’re one of three teams without a win and only Huddersfield have scored less goals.

I can’t see any Newcastle players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Despite their recent problems I think United should take the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-0

Sunday October 7

Fulham v Arsenal

12.00pm BST, Craven Cottage, London

Fulham lost 3-0 at Everton last week and they’re only one place above the bottom three. Their only win so far came at home and they have been sounder defensively on their own ground. No other team has conceded more goals and they have failed to score in three of their seven games.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is the Fulham player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers.

Arsenal rode their luck at home to Watford last week to win 2-0 and move up to fifth in the table. They have won two of their three away games, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet away from home yet. They have scored 14 goals in their last six games and they even kept clean sheets in their last two games.

Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil are the Arsenal players impressing the most for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Fulham’s woes will continue in this game with a narrow victory for Arsenal.

Prediction: 1-2

Southampton v Chelsea

2.15pm BST, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton lost 2-0 away to Wolves last week and they’re only two places above the relegation zone. They haven’t won at home yet and only two other teams have scored less home goals. They have failed to score in their last two games and they conceded seven goals in their last three games.

Danny Ings has done quite well for fantasy managers and has to at least be considered as he’s available at a very good price.

Chelsea looked like they were going to end Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the season last week, but they had to settle for a point after conceding a late equaliser. They have taken seven points from their three away games and no other team has conceded less goals on their travels. They’re one of three unbeaten teams with only City scoring more goals and only City and Liverpool conceding less.

Eden Hazard is almost a must have for fantasy managers at the moment while Marcos Alonso has done very well too.

I think Chelsea will continue to keep the pressure on the two teams above them by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Liverpool v Manchester City

4.30pm BST, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool got a late equaliser at Chelsea last week to keep their unbeaten run intact, but they dropped to second in the table. They’re one of two teams with a 100% record on their own ground and they’re the only team yet to concede a home goal. They’re only behind City on goal difference and only City have scored more goals while no other team has conceded less.

Liverpool’s defenders and keeper have done very well for fantasy managers while both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have to be considered too despite their lack of points in recent games.

City won 2-0 at home to Brighton last week to move back to the top of the table. Only Spurs have scored more away goals and no other team has conceded less goals on the road. They’ve won their last four games and kept clean sheets in their last three and no other team has scored more goals or conceded less.

Sergio Aguero is still the best fantasy option in the City team, but Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane have done well in recent games while their keeper and defenders are pretty good choices too.

The meeting of the top two and the two favourites to win the league has the makings of a great game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 2-2

For those of you looking to have a flutter you can get a boosted price of 10/1 for Arsenal to win away to Qarabag on Thursday night when you sign up to Bookee and place a bet. It sounds like a very good price to me and well worth considering.

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
