Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 36

It's that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did reasonably well last week with three correct predictions and three incorrect out of the six games played. I'm still nowhere in my predictions league and here's a look at how the top five in that league stands.

Saturday April 28

Liverpool v Stoke City

12.30pm BST, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool let a two goal lead slip at West Brom last week and had to settle for a point, but they still have eight points to spare over fifth place. They’re the only team still unbeaten at home with only United conceding less goals at home, but only West Brom and Southampton have drawn more games on their own ground. They have only lost once in their last 11 games and only City have scored more goals.

If he plays Mohamed Salah is the Liverpool player to have for fantasy managers while both Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are pretty good bets too.

Stoke led at home to Burnley last week, but they were pegged back to put them even closer to Championship football next season. They have taken less points away from home than any other team and only West Ham have conceded more goals on the road. No other team has lost more games or conceded more goals than Stoke and they haven’t won in 11 games.

Xherdan Shaqiri continues to impress for fantasy managers despite Stoke’s impending relegation, but he could struggle to make an impression in this game.

Even if they play a weakened team because of their European commitments I still think Liverpool will win.

Prediction: 3-1

Burnley v Brighton And Hove Albion

3pm BST, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley came from behind to get a 1-1 draw at Stoke last week, but they lost ground in their attempt to catch sixth placed Arsenal. They have actually taken more points away from home than they have at home and no other team has scored less goals at home. They have taken 16 points from their last seven games, but they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 14 games.

Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood have both been in good form recently for fantasy managers and their defensive players could do well in this game too.

Brighton didn’t play last week, but they’re almost safe from the threat of relegation with seven points to spare over the bottom three and four games to play. They have only won two of their 16 away games and no other team has scored less goals away from home. They have only taken two points in their last five games with only Huddersfield and Swansea scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Brighton players to recommend in this game.

I think Burnley will keep their chances of finishing sixth alive with a win in this game.

Prediction: 2-0

Crystal Palace v Leicester City

3pm BST, Selhurst Park, London

Palace managed to squeeze out a 0-0 draw at Watford last week and move a further point away from the dreaded drop zone. Only Stoke have lost more home games than Palace, but they did win their last home game to end a run of four home games without a win. They have taken eight points from their last five games and the 0-0 draw at Watford last week was only the second time in 14 games they failed to score.

Luka Milivojevic and Wilfried Zaha have been in very good form for fantasy managers recently while James Tomkins hasn’t done too badly either.

Leicester didn’t play last week and Everton’s win against Newcastle saw them drop to ninth in the table. Only six teams have taken more away points than Leicester and only five teams have scored more away goals. They have only taken one point from their last three games as they slipped behind Everton into ninth place.

Jamie Vardy has been in good form for fantasy managers recently while Riyad Mahrez is always a good choice too

Palace’s need is more urgent than Leicester’s and I think that need will help them to take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Huddersfield Town v Everton

3pm BST, John Smith's Stadium, Huddersfield

Huddersfield had the week off last week too and they know one more win in their last four games should be enough to keep them up. They have taken seven points from their last four home games with only Burnley scoring less goals at home. They have taken 11 points from their last eight games to keep them just above the drop zone and no other team has scored less goals.

I can’t see any Huddersfield players to recommend to fantasy managers.

Everton won 1-0 at home to Leicester on Monday night and those three points moved them above Leicester into eighth place. They have only won two of their 17 away games with only West Ham and Stoke conceding more goals away from home. They have taken 11 points from their last six games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games.

I can’t see any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

I think a draw is probably the most likely outcome in this game.

Prediction: 1-1

Newcastle United v West Bromwich Albion

3pm BST, St. James' Park, Newcastle

Newcastle lost 1-0 at Everton on Monday night, but they have managed to secure their Premier League status for another season. They are unbeaten in seven home games and they kept clean sheets in four of those games with victories in their last four on their own ground. The defeat at Everton ended a run of four consecutive wins and it was only their second defeat in 10 games.

Ayoze Perez and Kenedy could both be worth considering for fantasy managers in this game.

West Brom came from 2-0 down to get a point at home to Liverpool last week and they’re still not mathematically relegated, but that will probably change this week. Only Stoke have taken less points away from home and no other team has scored less goals on their travels. They are unbeaten in three games since Alan Pardew was shown the door, but only Huddersfield and Swansea have scored less goals.

Both Jay Rodriguez and Salomon Rondon have done well in recent weeks for fantasy managers and they are both worth considering.

I think Newcastle will manage another narrow victory as they push to finish in the top half of the table.

Prediction: 1-0

Southampton v Bournemouth

3pm BST, St. Mary's Stadium, Southampton

Southampton lost their FA Cup semi final to Chelsea last week and they’re four points from safety with only four games to play. Only West Brom have taken less points at home and they haven’t won in their last nine home games. They have only taken three points in their last eight games and they failed to score in five of those games.

I can’t see any Southampton players who might make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

Bournemouth didn’t play last week and they don’t have an awful lot to play with any relegation worries dismissed for another season. Only eight teams have taken more points away from home, but they have only won once in their last 11 away games. They have only won once in their last nine games and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 10 games with only three teams conceding more goals.

I can’t see any Bournemouth players to recommend to fantasy managers between now and the end of the season.

I think Southampton might just get the win they so badly need to keep their hopes of staying up alive.

Prediction: 2-1

Swansea City v Chelsea

5.30pm BST, Liberty Stadium, Swansea

Swansea lost 5-0 at City last week and they’re only four points above the relegation zone with four games left to play. They have taken 13 points from their last five home games, but only Burnley have scored less goals at home. They haven’t won in five games and they failed to score in three of those games while  no other team has scored less goals.

Lukasz Fabianski has been the best Swansea performer for fantasy managers while Jordan Ayew might do well with an extra game to play next week.

Chelsea won their FA Cup semi final against Southampton last week, but they’re still five points off the top four with only four games to go. They won their last two away games after losing the previous three and only three other teams have conceded less goals on the road. They have only won five of their last 13 games and they haven’t kept s clean sheet in seven games.

Chelsea’s defenders could do well for fantasy managers over the last four games while it’s hard to ignore Eden Hazard too.

Despite Swansea’s need for points I think Chelsea will win this game by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 0-2

Sunday April 29

West Ham United v Manchester City

2.15pm BST, London Stadium, London

West Ham looked like they might get a point at Arsenal last week until three late goals saw them lose 4-1, but they’re still six points clear of the bottom three. They have only lost once in their last seven home games, but they will do well to get anything from this game. They have only taken five points in their last seven games with only Stoke conceding more goals.

Marco Arnautovic is still the West Ham player to have for fantasy managers, but he might find things difficult in this game.

City won 5-0 at home to Swansea last week as they close in on plenty of Premier League records. They have won 14 of their 17 away games with no other team scoring more or conceding less goals away from home. They only need two goals to reach 100 league goals for the season and no other team has won more games, scored more goals or conceded less either.

David Silva, Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus are probably the best City players to pick for fantasy managers as they seem to be the only ones certain to play while Raheem Sterling, Sadio Mane and Bernardo Silva are all worth considering too.

I can’t see anything other than a City win in this game.

Prediction: 0-3

Manchester United v Arsenal

4.30pm BST, Old Trafford, Manchester

United won their FA Cup semi final against Spurs last week and they’re looking pretty secure in second place too. They lost their last home game against West Brom, but they won their previous five at home and no other team has conceded less goals at home. They have won six of their last seven games and only City have conceded less goals.

Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba are all worth considering for fantasy managers, but United’s defenders and keeper are probably the best bets and Chris Smalling seems to be the form player among them.

Arsenal won 4-1 at home to West Ham last week, but the best they can do in the league is to finish sixth. They have only won three of their 16 away games and they have lost their last five in a row away from home. They have won four of their last five games, but they were all at home and their goals against column is very worrying for a top six team.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on the bench last week, but surely he will start this game and he’s the best option in the Arsenal team for fantasy managers.

As an Arsenal fan I always predict a win for them and this game is no different even if I don’t know how they’re going to do it.

Prediction: 1-2

Monday April 30

Tottenham Hotspur v Watford

8pm BST, Wembley Stadium, London

Spurs didn’t play in the league last week, but they did lose their FA Cup semi final to United. They have won four of their last five home games and they kept clean sheets in each of those wins with only United and Liverpool conceding less goals at home. They haven’t won in two games, but they did win the previous six and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in five games.

With Harry Kane looking to finish top scorer he looks like a very good bet for fantasy managers while Christian Eriksen, Heung-Min Son, Dele Alli and all of Spurs’ defenders and keeper could do quite well too.

Watford drew 0-0 at home to Palace last week and they don’t have an awful lot to play for with their Premier League status secure for another season. They have only taken one point in their last 10 away games and they failed to score in the last six on the road. They haven’t won in six games and they failed to score in four of those games with only Stoke and West Ham conceding more goals.

I can’t see any Watford players to recommend to fantasy managers.

I think Spurs should win this game fairly comfortably.

Prediction: 3-0

That's it for this week.

See you next week.
