Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 29

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn't do too well last week with only four correct predictions and six incorrect, but I managed to move up one place in my predictions league. Here's a look at how the top five in that league looks without me anywhere in sight.

Saturday March 3

Burnley v Everton

12.30pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley thought they had their first win in a long time at home to Southampton on Saturday, but they were pegged back late on and had to settle for a 1-1 draw. They haven’t won in their last five home games and they only scored three goals in those games with no other team scoring less goals at home. They haven’t won in 11 games and they failed to score in six of those games with only Swansea scoring less goals.

I just can't see any Burnley players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Everton lost 1-0 at Watford on Saturday and they're still not completely clear of the wrong end of the table with only a seven point gap to the bottom three. They have only won once in their 14 away games with only Stoke and West Ham conceding more goals away from home and only West Brom and Brighton scoring less. They have only won twice in their last 10 games with only three other teams conceding more goals.

I can’t see any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

I think this might just be the game where Burnley put an end to their winless streak, but I thought the same of their game last week.

Prediction: 1-0

Leicester City v Bournemouth

3pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester had to come from behind to get a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Stoke last week, but they still have every chance of finishing as high as seventh and qualifying for the Europa League for next season. They are unbeaten in their last five home games and their rest of their home fixtures are quite favourable. They have only won twice in their last 11 games and only the top six have scored more goals.

Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy are both still very good options for fantasy managers even if they didn't do much last week.

Bournemouth came from 2-0 down to get a very important point at home to Newcastle last week which kept them five points above the relegation zone. They lost their last away game at Huddersfield, but they hadn’t lost in their previous three away games. That defeat at Huddersfield was their only defeat in their last nine games and West Ham are the only team in the bottom half of the table to have scored more goals.

I don't think there are any Bournemouth players who perform on a consistent basis for fantasy managers.

I think Leicester should have enough at home to take the three points.

Prediction: 3-1

Southampton v Stoke City

3pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton got a very late goal to take a point away to Burnley last week and it was just enough to lift them out of the relegation zone on goal difference. Only West Brom have taken less points at home with only Watford conceding more home goals and they haven’t won in their last seven games on their own patch. They have only won once in their last 15 games and this is a game where they really need to end that streak.

I can’t see any Southampton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Stoke led at Leicester last week, but they had to settle for a draw too and they remain in the relegation zone. No other team has lost more games or conceded more goals away from home and they’re without a win in their last nine games on the road. They have only won once in their last nine games and no other team has conceded more goals.

Xherdan Shaqiri is on a pretty good run of form at the moment and is looking like a very good reasonably priced option for fantasy managers.

This is a huge game for both teams and I think Southampton might just about get the better of a very close game.

Prediction: 2-1

Tottenham Hotspur v Huddersfield Town

3pm GMT, Wembley Stadium, London

Spurs left it late at Palace last week, but their late winner moved them ahead of Chelsea into the top four. They haven’t lost in their last 13 home games with only United conceding less goals at home and they haven’t conceded a goal in their last three home games. They have taken 24 points from their last 10 games with clean sheets in six of those games and only City and Liverpool scoring more goals.

Harry Kane is still a virtual must for fantasy managers with Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli pretty good options too.

Huddersfield won 2-1 away to West Brom last week to move three points above the bottom three. Before winning at West Brom they had lost their three previous away games without scoring and only three teams have conceded more goals away from home. They have won their last two games after failing to win the previous eight with only three teams scoring less goals and only two conceding more.

Despite winning their last two games I’m still not sure there are any Huddersfield players who can make a difference for fantasy managers.

I think Spurs should have far too much for Huddersfield and should win with a few goals to spare.

Prediction: 3-0

Swansea City v West Ham United

3pm GMT, Liberty Stadium, Swansea

Swansea’s good run came to an end last week when they lost 4-1 at Brighton and they dropped back into the relegation zone on goal difference. They have won their last three home games, but only Burnley have scored less goals at home. They taken 14 points from their last eight games, but they have scored less goals than any other team.

Lukasz Fabianski is still a good option for fantasy managers despite the four goals he conceded last week.

West Ham went down 4-1 on the road last week too, but they did have to play Liverpool and they’re still three points above the bottom three. They have lost their last two away games and conceded seven goals in those games and no other team has conceded more goals away from home. They have only lost three of their last 15 games and they’re the top scorers in the bottom half of the table, but only Stoke have conceded more goals.

Marco Arnautovic looks like he could be the best of the West Ham players for fantasy managers to consider.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the spoils shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Watford v West Bromwich Albion

3pm GMT, Vicarage Road, Watford

Watford got a much needed 1-0 win at home to Everton last week to move them three points above the bottom three. They have won their last two home games after only winning one of the previous six and no other team has conceded more goals at home. They have won two of their last three games after only winning once in the previous 12 games and only three teams have conceded more goals.

Abdoulaye Doucoure is the Watford player most likely to return points for fantasy managers, but that likelihood appears to lessen with each game.

West Brom lost 2-1 at home to Huddersfield last week and with each passing game they look less likely to get themselves off the foot of the table. They haven’t won in their last 13 away games and they failed to score in seven of those games with no other team scoring less goals away from home. They have only won once in their last 26 games and only Swansea have scored less goals.

I can’t see any West Brom players to recommend to fantasy managers.

As bad as West Brom have been I still think they will manage to get a point from this game.

Prediction: 1-1

Liverpool v Newcastle

5.30pm GMT, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool won 4-1 at home to West Ham last week and they’re putting real pressure on United in the fight for second place. Despite being one of only two teams unbeaten at home four other teams have more home points with only West Brom drawing more games at home. They have only lost once in their last 19 games with only City scoring more goals and second place seems a very real target for them at the moment.

Mohamed Salah is an absolute must have for fantasy managers while Roberto Firmino is in very good form too and Sadio Mane might just have found some form too.

Newcastle led 2-0 at Bournemouth last week, but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw and they’re still only two points above the relegation zone. They have only lost once in their last five away games and they have only taken three points less on their travels than they have at home. They have only lost twice in their last 10 games, but they did draw five of those games.

I still can’t see any Newcastle players to recommend to fantasy managers.

I think Liverpool will continue their pursuit of United with a win by at least a couple of goals.

Prediction: 3-1

Sunday March 4

Brighton And Hove Albion v Arsenal

1.30pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton got a great 4-1 win at home to fellow strugglers Swansea last week and that moved them four points above the bottom three. They have only lost once in their last six home games and they have scored seven goals in their last two home games. They are unbeaten in four games after only winning once in the previous 13 games.

Pascal Gross might just be worth considering again for fantasy managers and Glenn Murray is in quite good form too.

Arsenal lost 3-0 at home to City on Thursday night and they’re now 10 points off the top four with only 10 games to go. They have only won three of their 14 away games and have lost their last three on the road. They have only won four of their last 14 games and the teams behind now seem more likely to catch them than they are to catch any of the teams above them.

I can’t see any Arsenal players who might make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

Brighton will fancy their chances with Arsenal’s away record, but I think Arsenal might just get a narrow victory.

Prediction: 1-2

Manchester City v Chelsea

4pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City cruised to a 3-0 win at Arsenal on Thursday night after beating them in the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday too to keep their 16 point lead at the top of the table. They have won 13 of their 14 home games and they’re the top scorers at home with only United and Spurs conceding less goals on their own patch. They have won all but four of their games so far and they’re by far the top scorers with no other team conceding less goals either.

David Silva looks like he could be a good option at the moment for fantasy managers while Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling (if he’s fit) and the City defenders are all still great options.

Chelsea led at United last week, but they ended up losing 2-1 and that defeat saw them drop out of the top four. Only City and Liverpool have taken more away points, but they have only won twice in their last eight away games with only City scoring more away goals. They have lost three of their last four games and they conceded nine goals in those games.

Eden Hazard is still the best fantasy option in the Chelsea team while Willian has been in good form recently too.

I think City will be too strong for Chelsea and should move even closer to winning the title with another three points.

Prediction: 3-1

Monday March 5

Crystal Palace v Manchester United

8pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London

Palace lost to a very late goal at home to Spurs last week and they’re only outside the bottom three on goal difference. The defeat against Spurs was only their second home defeat in 11 games, but this is another very tough home fixture. They haven’t won in five games and they have some tough games coming up in the next few weeks too.

Luka Milivojevic is the one Palace player who might interest fantasy managers at the moment.

United came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Chelsea last week and that win kept them in second place, but they are 16 points behind City with only 10 games left to play. They have only won half of their 14 away games and they have lost their last two on the road without scoring. They have five clean sheets in their last eight games and no other team has conceded less goals.

United’s defenders and goalkeeper still the best bets in their team for fantasy managers.

I think this will be a close game, but United will probably eek out a narrow victory.

Prediction: 0-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
