Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 25

It's that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did quite well last week with one perfect prediction, six correct outcomes and three incorrect which saw me move up a little in my predictions league. I’m still nowhere near the top of that league though and here’s a look at how the top of that league stands.

Tuesday January 30

Swansea City v Arsenal

7.45pm GMT, Liberty Stadium, Swansea

Swansea won 1-0 at home to Liverpool last week, but they’re still bottom of the table even if it’s only on goal difference. No other team has taken less points or scored less goals at home, but they have taken seven points from their last five games on their own ground and that is an improvement. They are the lowest scorers in the league, but they have taken seven points from their last four games to move within three points of seventeenth place.

Despite the heroics of Lukasz Fabianski at times it’s still not easy to see any Swansea players to recommend to fantasy managers.

Arsenal easily beat Palace 4-1 last week and followed that win by beating Chelsea to progress to the Carabao Cup final, but they’re still five points behind the top four. They have only won once in their last five away games and seven other teams have taken more points on the road. They have only lost once in their last nine games, but five draws in those games have seen them lose ground on the top four.

I’m still not sure on which Arsenal players to recommend to fantasy managers, but that might change by the time the transfer window closes.

I think Swansea will do their best to frustrate Arsenal like they did against Liverpool, but Arsenal should manage to take the three points.

Prediction: 1-2

West Ham United v Crystal Palace

7.45pm GMT, London Stadium, London

West Ham could only draw 1-1 at home to Bournemouth last week and they’re only outside the top half of the table on goal difference despite being only four points above the bottom three. They have only lost once in their last six home games and they still have played less home games than any other team. They have only lost once in nine games, but only Stoke and Watford have conceded more goals and they could struggle with their current spate of injuries.

With Marco Arnautovic and Manuel Lanzini both injured it’s hard to see any other West Ham players who might step up to the plate for fantasy managers.

Palace went down 4-1 at Arsenal last week, but they’re only a point behind West Ham and in a lot better place than they were a couple of months ago. Their defeat at Arsenal was their first away loss in six games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games. They have only lost twice in their last 13 games and both of those defeats were against Arsenal.

I keep recommending Wilfried Zaha to fantasy managers, but maybe Luka Milivojevic might be a better option at the moment.

I think this will be a very close affair and a point each is probably the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Huddersfield Town v Liverpool

8pm GMT, John Smith's stadium, Huddersfield

Huddersfield lost 2-0 at Stoke last season and they seem unable to halt their slide towards the wrong end of the table. They haven’t won in four home games and only three other teams have scored less goals at home. They haven’t won in six games and they failed to score in three of their last four with only Swansea and Brighton scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Huddersfield players who might be of interest to fantasy managers at the moment.

Liverpool lost 1-0 at bottom club Swansea last week, but they kept their place in the top four because Spurs failed to win too. They are the top scorers away from home, but only four other teams have conceded more goals on their travels. That defeat at Swansea was their first defeat in 15 games with only City scoring more goals this season.

Mohamed Salah is still the must have player in the Liverpool team for fantasy managers with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane worth considering too.

Despite their recent setbacks I think Liverpool should win this game quite comfortably.

Prediction: 0-4

Wednesday January 31

Chelsea v Bournemouth

7.45pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea finally managed to find their shooting boots when they beat Brighton 4-0 away from home last week and they moved back above Liverpool into third place. They are unbeaten in eight home games and they won seven of those games with clean sheets in six of them as only United have conceded less goals at home. They have only lost once in their last 17 games with six clean sheets in their last seven games and no other team has conceded less goals.

Chelsea’s defenders are very good fantasy options and particularly when they are at home while Eden Hazard has suggested in the last week that he might just have found some form again.

Bournemouth got a good 1-1 draw at West Ham last week and they’re one of nine teams within six points of the bottom three. They have drawn four of their last six away games, but they didn’t win any of them. They are unbeaten in five games and they scored 10 goals in those games, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 11 games.

I don’t see any Bournemouth players to recommend to fantasy managers for this game, but Callum Wilson has done well in recent weeks.

Chelsea have had problems scoring goals, but I think they will overcome those problems in this game and win with a bit to spare.

Prediction: 2-0

Everton v Leicester City

7.45pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton drew 1-1 at home to West Brom last week and they’re only six points above the relegation zone despite the improvement that first came under Sam Allardyce. They haven’t won in their last three home games and they only scored one goal in those games. They haven’t won in six games and they failed to score in four of those games and they’re only six points above the relegation zone despite being in ninth place.

I can’t see any Everton players who might make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

Leicester won 2-0 at home to Watford last week and they moved above Burnley into seventh place. Only six teams have taken more points away from home, but they haven’t won in their last three games on the road. They have put a recent bad run behind them by taking seven points and conceding no goals on their last three games.

Riyad Mahrez and Harry Maguire are both doing very well for fantasy managers while Jamie Vardy hasn’t done too badly either.

I think this could be a close game, but Mahrez might just make the difference for Leicester.

Prediction: 1-2

Newcastle United v Burnley

7.45pm GMT, St. James's Park, Newcastle

Newcastle lost 3-1 at City last week and that defeat leaves them only one point above the drop zone. They have only taken two points in their last seven home games and they failed to score in five of those games too. They have taken eight points from their last six games though to keep themselves just above the dreaded bottom three.

Like so many other teams at the moment I can’t see any Newcastle players to interest fantasy managers.

Burnley lost 1-0 at home to United last week and dropped back to eighth as their decline continues. They have taken as many points away from home as they have at home, but they haven’t won in their last five on the road and they failed to score in four of those games. They have only taken three points from their last seven games and they failed to score in five of those games.

Burnley’s defenders had been good fantasy options until a few weeks ago, but I’m not so sure about them any more.

It’s very difficult to know how this game will go, but I think Burnley might just get the better of a close affair.

Prediction: 0-1

Southampton v Brighton And Hove Albion

7.45pm GMT, St. Mary's stadium, Southampton

Southampton got a very good 1-1 at home to Spurs last week, but it wasn’t enough to keep them out of the bottom three. They have only won three of their 13 home games with only Watford and Stoke conceding more goals at home. They haven't won in 11 games and they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 15 games.

Southampton need some players to step up if they’re going to climb the table, but I just can’t see any of them doing that business for fantasy managers for the moment at least.

Brighton lost 4-0 at home to Brighton last week and they seem to be heading quickly towards the foot of the table. They have only one point and no goals in their last six away games and no other team has scored less goals away from home. They have only won once in their last 13 games and they failed to score in eight of those games with only Swansea scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Brighton players to recommend to fantasy managers either.

Both teams badly need to get something from this game and I think Southampton will ease the pressure on them by taking all three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester City v West Bromwich Albion

8pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City won 3-1 at home to Newcastle last week to keep their 12 point gap at the top of the table. They have won all of their home games except for a draw with Everton and they are by far the top scorers at home. They have won 21 of their 24 games, but they haven't kept a clean sheet in three games even if they are the highest scorers and only two other teams have conceded less goals.

Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne are the City players to have for fantasy managers while their defenders have done quite well too.

West Brom managed a creditable 1-1 draw at Everton last week, but they’re only off the foot of the table on goal difference now. They haven’t won in 11 games away from home with only Stoke taking less points on the road and only Brighton scoring less goals. They have won less games than any other team and have only won once in their last 22 games with only Swansea and Brighton scoring less goals.

Jay Rodriguez has done well for fantasy managers in recent weeks, but it would be a risk to pick any West Brom players in this game.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable City win in this game.

Prediction: 3-0

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United

8pm GMT, Wembley Stadium, London

Spurs could only draw 1-1 at Southampton last week and they missed their chance to move back into the top four. They have taken 23 points from their last nine home games and they scored 24 goals in those games with only three other teams scoring more goals at home. They have only lost once in their last 10 games and they still have every chance of finishing in the top four.

Harry Kane is the outstanding choice for fantasy managers in the Spurs team with Heung-Min Son, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen all worth considering too, but they have a very tough run of fixtures coming up.

United just about managed to win 1-0 away to Burnley last week to stay 12 points behind City at the top of the table. They have taken 16 points from their last six away games and they scored 14 goals in those games with only City and Chelsea conceding less goals away from home. They are unbeaten in eight games and have kept clean sheets in their last four games with no other team conceding less goals.

With Alexis Sanchez in the team the chances are Jesse Lingard won’t get much game time for fantasy managers which would make Paul Pogba and the United defenders and keeper the best choices in their team.

This is a game both teams need to win, but the chances are it will end with the spoils shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Stoke City v Watford

8pm GMT, bet365 Stadium, Stoke

Stoke got a much needed 2-0 win at home to Huddersfield last week to move out of the bottom three. Their home form is good enough to put them in the top half of the table and they have won three of their last five home games, but only Watford have conceded more goals at home. That win against Huddersfield put an end to a run of three defeats in which they failed to score and they have conceded more goals than any other team.

I’m not sure if any of the Stoke players should be of interest to fantasy managers at the moment, but that could change with a new man in charge.

Watford lost 2-0 at Leicester last week and they’re only four points above the relegation zone despite being in the top half of the table. They have taken as many points on their travels as they have at home, but they have lost their last five away games. They have only taken five points from their last 11 games with only Stoke conceding more goals and those results cost Marco Silva his job.

Abdoulaye Doucoure looks like the best fantasy prospect in the Watford team with the goals drying up for Richarlison in recent weeks.

I have a feeling Stoke’s good start under Paul Lambert will continue with a narrow win in this game between the two teams with the worst defences in the league.

Prediction: 2-1

That's it for this week.

See you next week.
