Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Eight

It's that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did quite well with my last set of predictions with two perfect scorelines, four correct outcomes and four incorrect. That leaves me still on top of my predictions league as you can see from the table below.

Saturday October 15

Chelsea v Leicester City

12.30pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea put an end to their poor run with a 2-0 win away to Hull in their last game. They have won two of their three home games, but they need to improve in defence if they're going to trouble the top four places. A game against last season's champions looks like a tough task, but Leicester's away form would suggest otherwise.

Diego Costa has been the best of the Chelsea players for fantasy managers with Eden Hazard doing quite well too.

Leicester could only draw 0-0 at home to Southampton in their last game and they continue to linger in the bottom half of the table. They have lost all three of their away games and have conceded more away goals than any other team. They are going to have to improve away from home to even move into the top half of the table, but it won't be easy in this game.

None of the Leicester players have exactly set the fantasy world alight, but their defenders have done well at home and Jamie Vardy hasn't done too badly.

I think Leicester will make a game of it, but Chelsea will take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Arsenal v Swansea City

3pm BST, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal left it late in their last game but they just about managed to win 1-0 away to Burnley. They have won two of their three home games with only City and Liverpool scoring more goals at home. They will fancy their chances of closing the gap on the two teams above them at home to struggling Swansea.

Alexis Sanchez (if he plays) has been the Arsenal player to have for fantasy managers with Theo Walcott doing well too and the Arsenal defenders have done well since their opening day problems.

Swansea lost at home to Liverpool in their last game and they continue to slide down the table. Their only win came on the road and that was on the opening day, but only Arsenal, Spurs and Everton have conceded less goals on their travels. With a new man at the helm they will hope to boost their chances, but a trip to in form Arsenal will be no easy task.

Leroy Fer has been by far the best of the Swansea players for fantasy managers with Gylfi Siggurdsen always worth considering too.

I think Arsenal should be too strong for Swansea and should win by at least a couple of goals.

Prediction: 2-0

Bournemouth v Hull City

3pm BST, Dean Court, Bournemouth

Bournemouth drew away to Watford in their last game to climb a little further away from the bottom three. They have won two of their three home games and taken six of their eight points at home. They have struggled to score goals though with only Burnley and Stoke scoring less so far.

Bournemouth players haven't set the fantasy football world alight, but their defenders haven't done too badly at home.

Hull lost at home to Chelsea last time out and they have only taken one point in their last five games. They have taken more points on the road than at home though and a trip to Bournemouth will give them a chance of getting more. Their problems seem to be in defence with only West Ham and Stoke conceding more goals.

Robert Snodgrass has been by far the best of the Hull players for fantasy managers and is certainly worth considering.

This looks like it could be a very close game and I wouldn't be surprised if it ended in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Manchester City v Everton

3pm BST, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City proved they aren't invincible when they lost 2-0 away to Spurs in their last game and their lead has been cut to just one point. They are one of two teams with a 100% record at home and no other team has scored more goals at home. They have scored more goals than any other team, but they have only kept one clean sheet in their seven league games.

Sergio Aguero is the best of the City players for fantasy managers and a must have for me while Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne are among the very best performers too.

Everton drew at home to Palace in their last game and their great start to the season seems to be fading. They have won two of their three away games and no other team has conceded less goals away from home. They will have to be at their very best to have any hope of getting something from this game.

Romelu Lukaku has done well for fantasy managers since breaking his duck for the season and is certainly well worth having for fantasy managers.

I think City should be too strong at home and should take the three points.

Prediction: 3-1

Stoke City v Sunderland

3pm BST, Bet 365 Stadium, Stoke

Stoke got a very good point away to United in their last game, but they're still in a lot of trouble at the foot of the table. They have only taken one point from their three home games and no other team has conceded more or scored less goals at home. They will have to improve at both ends if they're going to climb the table and a home game against the only team below them could be just what they need.

There hasn't been too much in the way of fantasy action from Stoke players so far this season, but Marco Arnautovic is the most likely of them to perform.

Sunderland got a point at home to West Brom in their last game, but it was only their second point in their seven games so far. They have only taken one point from their three away games, but they only conceded four goals in this games. They are embroiled in their annual fight to beat the drop, but it might just end in defeat this season.

Jermain Defoe is the only Sunderland player fantasy managers should even contemplate.

This is a huge game for both clubs and I think Stoke might just get the better of a very close affair.

Prediction: 2-1

West Bromwich Albion v Tottenham Hotspur

3pm BST, The Hawthorns, Birmingham

West Brom should have won away to Sunderland in their last game, but ended up drawing 1-1. They have taken more points away from home so far and are at their best defensively on the road. They usually struggle to score except for the four they put past West Ham and I expect nothing different in this game.

Nacer Chadli has done pretty well since joining West Brom and is certainly worth considering for fantasy managers.

Spurs put an end to City's 100% record last time out and moved within a point of them at the top of the table. They are the only unbeaten team in the league and no other team has conceded less goals away from home. A win in this game would put them at the top of the table if City don't beat Everton.

Heung-Min Son has been the stand out player in the Spurs team for fantasy managers with Dele Alli doing well recently and their defenders performing well too.

I think Spurs will be too good for West Brom and will continue their impressive start to the season by taking the three points.

Prediction: 1-2

Crystal Palace v West Ham United

5.30pm BST, Selhurst Park, London

Palace got a good draw away to Everton in their last game and continued to climb the table. They have taken more points and scored more goals on their travels than they have at home. After a slow start to the season they have climbed the table quickly with 11 points in their last five games.

Christian Benteke looks like he might just make a difference for fantasy managers while James McArthur has done well recently too.

West Ham could only draw at home to Middlesbrough last time out and they continue to flounder at the wrong end of the table. They are one of three teams to have taken no points away from home with only Leicester conceding more goals on the road. They have lost five of their seven games so far and have conceded more goals than any other team.

Despite West Ham's poor form Dimitri Payet is doing the business for fantasy managers and Michail Antonio isn't doing too badly either.

I think Palace will just about get the better of proceedings and pile even more pressure on West Ham.

Prediction: 1-0

Sunday October 16

Middlesbrough v Watford

1.30pm BST, Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough

Boro got a good point away to West Ham in their last game to put an end to a poor run of results. They haven't won at home yet and only Stoke have scored less goals on their own patch. They have only taken two points in their last five games and haven't kept a clean sheet in their last four.

I can't see any Boro players who fantasy managers might be interested in right now.

Watford drew at home to Bournemouth in their last game and their results have been all over the place. They have taken as many points on their travels as they have at home, but they haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their opening seven games. They have scored their fair share of goals too and that might just stand to them in this game.

Etienne Capoue has been by far the best fantasy player in the Watford team and he's still available at a pretty good price.

I can see this being a very close game and a draw is probably the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Southampton v Burnley

4pm BST, St. Mary's Stadium, Southampton

Southampton drew away to the champions in their last game and they seem to have come into some form after a slow start. They are unbeaten at home with only Spurs conceding less goals at home, but only Stoke scoring less on their own patch. They failed to win in their first four games, but they have taken seven points and kept three clean sheets in their last three.

Southampton's defenders have looked good recently and Charlie Austin might not be a bad choice for fantasy managers either.

Burnley were unlucky to be beaten by a very late and controversial goal by Arsenal in their last game. They are one of the three teams to have taken no points on the road so far and they're the only team with no away goals to their name. Their home form is keeping them away from the bottom three and they have the best defensive record in the bottom half of the table.

I can't see any Burnley players to excel for fantasy managers and even less so when they're away from home.

I think Southampton should be able to win this game with a few goals to spare.

Prediction: 3-0

Monday October 17

Liverpool v Manchester United

8pm BST, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool came from behind to win away to Swansea in their last game and it looks like they might just be up for the title challenge this season. They have won all of their home games so far and no other team has scored more goals at home. If they are going to be taken seriously this season this is a game they really have to win.

Phillippe Coutinho, Roberto Frimino, Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane are all more than capable of making a difference for fantasy managers.

United could only draw at home to struggling Stoke in their last game and they need to find some consistency soon. They have won two of their three away games, but they haven't kept a clean sheet in their last four games. This is a huge test for them and a third defeat in their first eight games would not be a good return.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juan Mata are the attacking players most likely to do well in the United team right now and their defenders aren't looking too bad either, but may not be the best choice in this game.

I think Liverpool's attacking prowess will prove to be too much for United and they will take the three points.

Prediction: 3-1

That's it for this week.

See you next week.
