Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 28

It's that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did reasonably well at the weekend with four correct outcomes and four incorrect which helped me to slightly increase my lead in my predictions league as you can see from the table below.

Tuesday March 1

Aston Villa v Everton

7.45pm GMT, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa lost again at the weekend when they went down 2-1 away to Stoke. Only Palace have lost more home games than Villa and no other team has scored less goals at home than them. They have lost three of their last four games and failed to score in three of their last five.

I can't see any Villa players who might remotely interest fantasy managers.

Everton didn't play at the weekend and haven't played in the league since losing 1-0 at home to West Brom a few weeks ago. They have only lost one of their 12 away games with only three other teams conceding less goals on the road. They won their previous two games by the same 3-0 scoreline and they need to find more consistency.

Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley are still the Everton players most likely to succeed for fantasy managers.

I think Everton should have more than enough to win this game by a couple of goals at least.

Prediction: 0-2

Bournemouth v Southampton

7.45pm GMT, Dean Court, Bournemouth

Bournemouth got a good point on Saturday when they drew 0-0 away to Watford. They have only won three of their 13 home games with only Everton conceding more goals at home. They have only taken one point from their last three games, but they still have five points to spare over the bottom three.

Charlie Daniels has done very well for fantasy managers recently and at a good price too.

Southampton couldn't hold on to their lead at home to Chelsea on Saturday and ended up losing 2-1. They have only won four of their 13 away games with no other team conceding less goals away from home although only West Brom and Newcastle have scored less goals away from home. They have taken 16 points from their last seven games and kept six clean sheets in a row before losing to Chelsea.

Southampton's defenders have done really well for fantasy managers recently and Shane Long has been good too although he might not be fit to play this game.

I think Southampton's defensive strength should see them get the better of this game.

Prediction: 0-2

Leicester City v West Bromwich Albion

7.45pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester left it very late on Saturday, but they got three crucial points at home to Norwich in their bid to win the league. They have only lost one of their 13 home games and no other team has taken more points at home. They have won four of their last five games and kept clean sheets in six of their last nine.

Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez are still looking good for fantasy managers and the Leicester defenders have done well recently too.

West Brom raced into a three goal lead at home to Palace on Saturday and just about managed to hold on for a 3-2 win. They have taken almost as many points away from home as they have at home, but only Newcastle have scored less goals on the road. They have won their last two league games after failing to win any of the previous five.

I can't see any West Brom players who might make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think West Brom will make life tough for Leicester and they might just get a point from this game.

Prediction: 1-1

Norwich City v Chelsea

7.45pm GMT, Carrow Road, Norwich

Norwich almost held on for a point away to Leicester on Saturday, but ended up losing to a last minute goal. They have only won four of their 13 home games, but they have as many home goals as third placed Arsenal. They have only taken one point from their last seven games and failed to score in four of them while conceding 19 goals.

I can't see any Norwich players to recommend to fantasy managers.

Chelsea came from behind to win away to Southampton on Saturday as they continue to progress up the table. They have lost five of their 13 away games, but they have taken 11 points from their last five games on the road. They are unbeaten in 11 league games as they continue to remain unbeaten in the league since the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Branislav Ivanovic is looking like the must have player he was last season for fantasy managers while Diego Costa and Willian are worth considering for fantasy managers too.

I think Chelsea will be too good for Norwich and will win this game with a few goals to spare.

Prediction: 0-3

Sunderland v Crystal Palace

7.45pm GMT, Stadium of Light, Sunderland

Sunderland lost away to West Ham on Saturday and they need to get something from this game. Only Palace and Villa have lost more home games than Sunderland, but they have conceded less goals at home than any other team in the bottom half of the table. They have only won once in their last six games and haven't kept a clean sheet in their last 13.

Whabri Khazri has looked good since joining Sunderland in January and could be worth considering for fantasy managers.

Palace lost yet again on Saturday when they went down 3-2 at West Brom and they're plummeting down the table. They have taken more points on their travels than they have at home and have conceded less away goals than all of the teams below them. They have only taken one point in their last eight games and failed to keep a clean sheet in any of them.

I can't see any Palace players who might do the business for fantasy managers right now.

If Sunderland can win this game they will drag Palace into the relegation dogfight and I think they will do just that.

Prediction: 2-1

Wednesday March 2

Arsenal v Swansea City

7.45pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal had the chance to stay within two points of Leicrster when they went to a depleted United on Sunday, but they blew it and lost 3-2. They have won eight of their 13 home games and only United have conceded less goals at home. They have only taken nine points from their last seven games and they failed to score in three of those games too.

Mesut Ozil continues to impress for fantasy managers and the Arsenal defenders have done well recently too with the exception of Sunday's game.

Swansea led away to Spurs on Sunday, but they couldn't hold on and ended up losing 2-1. They have only won two of their 13 away games and have a much better defensive record on the road than the four teams below them. They have only taken two points from their last four games and haven't kept a clean sheet in their last five.

While Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Ayew have done fairly well for fantasy managers this season it's a risk to pick players from a team struggling as badly as Swansea.

Arsenal need to bounce back from Sunday's defeat quickly and I think they will win this game by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 2-0

Stoke City v Newcastle United

7.45pm GMT, Britannia Stadium, Stoke

Stoke won 2-1 at home to Villa on Saturday and they get to play at home to another one of the bottom three in this game. They have lost five of their 13 home games with only three other teams scoring less goals at home. They have won their last two league games after failing to win any of the previous four or score a goal in any of those four games either.

Marco Arnautovic is still the Stoke player most likely to perform for fantasy managers.

Newcastle didn't play at the weekend and they lost their last game 5-1 away to Chelsea a couple of weeks ago. They have lost 10 of their 13 away games and no other team had scored less goals on the road. They have lost six of their last nine league games and have only kept one clean sheet in their last 11.

Georginio Wijnaldum is the only Newcastle player to consider for fantasy managers, but only when they play at home.

I think Stoke should be good enough at home to take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur

7.45pm GMT, Upton Park, London

West Ham won 1-0 at home to Sunderland on Saturday to move within four points of the top four. They have only lost two of their 13 home games and have not lost in their last 11 at home. They have only lost twice in their last 14 games, but they have drawn seven of those games.

Dimitri Payet and Michail Antinio have both done well for fantasy managers recently and are well worth considering.

Spurs dug deep at home to Swansea on Sunday to come from 1-0 down and get three crucial points in their quest to win the league. They have only lost one of their 13 away games and no other team has conceded less goals away from home. They have won their last six league games and scored 15 goals in the process.

Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and all of the Spurs defenders are looking good for fantasy managers at the moment.

West Ham won't make life easy for Spurs and I think they might just get a draw from this game.

Prediction: 1-1

Liverpool v Manchester City

8pm GMT, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool won their last league game 6-0 away to Villa, but they lost the Capital One Cup final on penalties to City on Sunday. They have only won four of their 12 home games and have conceded more goals than they have scored at home. They have only won twice in their last seven league games and they failed to score in three of those games too.

Phillippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge could be the Liverpool players to have for fantasy managers if Liverpool are going to climb the table.

City lost their last league game at home to Spurs and they have a lot of ground to make up on the three teams ahead of them. They have only won five of their 13 away games while no other team has conceded less goals on the road, but only one other team in the top half of the table has scored less away goals. They lost their last two games to teams who were above them in the table and they still haven't won two league games in a row since mid October.

Sergio Aguero and David Silva are still the City players most likely to perform for fantasy managers.

I think this will be another very close game and it will probably end with the spoils shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Manchester United v Watford

8pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester

United won 3-2 at home to Arsenal on Sunday despite a depleted team and kept their outside chances of a top four finish alive. They have only lost two of their 13 home games and no other team has conceded less goals at home. They have taken 14 points from their last eight games after only taking three from the previous six.

Marcus Rashford did very well on his Premier League debut for fantasy managers on Sunday and he could be worth a punt at a very good price.

Watford drew 0-0 at home to Bournemouth on Saturday and they're finding goals hard to come by at the moment. They have taken almost as many points on their travels as they have at home and they have scored more goals on the road. They have managed eight points from their last five games, but they have failed to score in five of their last seven games.

With so few goals recently it's hard to see any Watford players doing well for fantasy managers.

I think United might just have given themselves the boost they needed on Sunday and they will continue their good work in this game.

Prediction: 2-1

That's it for this week.

See you next week.

  1. Among them, i think Arsenal manager can now see the effect of a bad philosophy. When you have performing players like Campbell and drop them for the Likes of Theo walcott, who the only game he performed well was the equalizing goal against Leicester.

    1. As bad as Walcott was against United he wasn't the only one.

    2. Your brief analysis is accurate. Theo is no good as a 90 minute player. Hope he does not get the nod over Giroud tomorrow
