Dear Arsenal Please Sign Cesc Now

If the rumours are to be believed then Cesc Fabregas is surplus to requirements at Barcelona and has been told he is free to leave them this summer. Personally I think Barcelona would be crazy to let Cesc go and I doubt if they really will do so. He hasn't always got his game for them since he rejoined them from Arsenal three years ago, but he has become a very important part of their team.

With Xavi approaching his dotage then surely Cesc is going to be even more important to Barcelona and his assists and goal scoring stats have been very impressive since he joined them. For me it just doesn't make senses to sell a player who is just approaching his prime when Barcelona need to build for the future. Those same rumours would also have us believe Cesc is available at a price of approximately €30 million which is less than they paid Arsenal for him in 2011.

Let's just suppose Cesc is available this summer and consider what should be done. It's common knowledge that Arsenal have first option on him if Barcelona are to sell him and from what I understand they would get him for a price similar to the one they paid Arsenal in 2011. It's a price Arsenal can afford and a transfer they would be crazy to turn their noses up at in my opinion.

In his years at Arsenal Cesc was an exceptional player and almost carried the team on his own at times. He would not require any time to settle into the style of play in the Premier League and he is one of the best players in the world. With him in the squad Arsenal's midfield would be the envy of almost every team in the world and the boss could avail of some genuine rotation in the midfield. Players like Cesc, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla would have the chance to rest when it's needed without the team suffering.

The thought of seeing Cesc in any other Premier League team is one which I would find incredibly hard to take and one which would be a blow to Arsenal's chances of winning the league. I'm not suggesting Arsenal should sign Cesc just to stop him joining a rival, but the thought of Arsenal having to play against him should give the boss the extra incentive to buy him. I can't think of any team which wouldn't be improved by signing Cesc and players of his ability are few and far between.

How often can Arsenal make an approach for a top class player and know they won't be usurped by one of the many oil rich teams. They have money to spend from new sponsorship and shirt deals as well as the extra TV money which every Premier a League team is now getting. Maybe a midfielder isn't the first item on this summer's shopping list, but the team will only be better if they sign Cesc. For me Arsenal just cannot turn down the opportunity to sign a player who will make them a better team.

Of course the club still have to sign a striker, a right back, a defensive midfielder and a centre back too and that's going to cost a fair amount of money. The club have been frugal with their money for far too long now and some real investment this summer is not only needed but could be just what's required to go the distance next season and for a few more seasons too. Arsenal came close in the league last season and won the cup and now they need to challenge right up to the end in the league.

If they sign Cesc I think that will be the first step in the right direction and will hopefully help them to attract other players too. Any striker would surely want to sign for a team where he had both Ozil and Cesc ready and willing to create chances for him and there are few players in world football who can match their stats for making chances. It would be a striker's dream to have those two players setting him up time after time and Arsenal could become a goal scoring machine with the right striker in front of Cesc and Ozil.

I might be a little biased towards Cesc I suppose, but that's hardly surprising as my blog was originally titled "Cesc Is God" when it started almost six years ago. The title had to change when Cesc left and it won't be changing back if he returns, but I would be a very happy man to see him in an Arsenal shirt again. I can only hope Arsene Wenger feels the same way too and brings him back to the club where he truly belongs.

That's it for today.

See you tomorrow.

  1. Madness, if they don't sign him back. As a Barça fan, I have mixed feelings about him leaving. I see the reason management aren't too keen on him any more (he never quite fit into the style), but I like the guy a lot, and he's clearly still world-class, and has Barça in his heart. Equally, I think he's getting very near his peak now, and spending it half the time on Barça's bench would be sad when he could be maximising his potential over in England! But let's be honest, neither Culés nor Gunners have any love for Chelsea (quite the opposite), and this is not the place we'd like to see him go... I really wish Arsenal would just exercise their right by matching Chelsea's bid and ensuring he goes back to the Emirates. Best for him, Arsenal, Spain, even Barça.

    1. I can only hope he comes back to Arsenal because he could be exactly what Chelsea need with Diego Costa on the way to them too.

    2. He would be yeah. Rumour has it Mourinho doesn't want him while the Chelsea board do, but I'm not sure this is true even. He would be a big upgrade on Lampard, who's leaving, and as all their players have been saying, they don't really have someone like him right now... Oh well, fingers crossed he somehow ends up at Arsenal (or at least not Chelsea), since I'm pretty sure he won't be staying at Barça.

    3. I can never believe one of my favorite stars would ever join Chelsea. Cesc is clearly a world class player provided that the freedom on the pitch is given. Unfortunately, he has not played the best position since his back to Barca. He is a natural successor of Xavi. His position will be of greater significance in the coming one or two years.

I understand it is very difficult to keep Cesc in Barca. But please go back to Arsenal, or even Liverpool, PSG or Manchester City instead of Mourinho's Chelsea!!!

  2. I have always believed in wengerball but in letting Cesc - an known arsenal supporter and former great i cant help but realise that if arsenal dont sign him back then the club has simply lost the right to represent its supporters. they dont care what the supporters think and are running the club for themselves alone without the jiffy of care in the world.

    1. I don't think it's as straight forward as that and the signing of Ozil last summer is the biggest obstacle to his return.

    2. A poll created on arsenal fan tv website where they asked , "should we bring cesc back?" 93 % answered yes , so its clearly what the supporters want

  4. Attacking midfield is one area on the pitch where we are spoilt for choice. When Ozil was signed last season, some section of our fan base and pundits said that we did not actually need him. Now that Fabragas is available, people a clamouring for him to be signed. Are we not using limited squad space to over populate a portion of the pitch at the detriment of others? Have we all forgotten that we have 25 squad spaces for the EPL? We have more than enough fo creative players. We need a defensive midfielder more than another attacking midfielder. If we must sign him, we may need to release Rosicky of Diaby to create room for him. If we get two forwards of top class, a defensive midfielder and replace Sagna and Fabianski, we will be well positioned to do well next season with or without Fabragas.

    2. For me the only question is will he make Arsenal better and the answer has to be a resounding yes.

    3. Ofcourse we are well stocked in AM but taking into account that Wilshere, chambo, diaby, rosicky all are terribly injury prone could make Signing Cesc not that bad an option, will it?

  5. i will cry my eyes out if i can see fabregas playing another club in epl. How can we keep player like Diaby in arsenal all this long without playing and we are saying there is space for fabregas to stay.............fabregas in another team this year, another trophyless season for arsenal.

  7. Cesc Fabregas can just sit in his f****ng loo and nibble on his Barca DNA for all I care. The cunning c**t who wanted to go on strike when he couldn't get his way to go back and got that Barca mob to do his dirty work.
Arsenal fans like you all who want to suck Fabregas at the drop of his pants need a reality check.
Arsenal's priority is a powerful and pacy striker who can hit the net, not someone whose supposed club has asked him to push off. Furthermore, we need a top rb, a proper holding mf and a pacy and goal-driven lw.
Now go and chew on that.
Wenger doesn't want Fabregas. Get that into your thick skulls and for once he is right though I can't stand the sight of the senile fool.

re-signing Cesc would not preclude us from filling the gaps you point out. In fact, seeing a world class player like Cesc coming in the strengthen the team would encourage our other targets to join.

The bottom line is, a team with Cesc is stronger than a team without Cesc. He wants to play for Arsenal...it's a total no-brainer

  10. It should have been a known fact to Arsenal fans that an economist- football manager is more interested in financial returns to investment than trophies. AW has made it clear that qualifying for the European championship is like winning a trophy. Otherwise, why would an ambitious manager wait till after the world cup before buying players? Does AW not know that players’ ratings and costs will astronomically increase after the world cup? The truth is that both he and the CEO talk much to placate the fans and later offer terrible excuses that available players are either over-priced by their clubs or are unavailable. Will players who desire to move or who know that they are surplus to their clubs stay to wait managers like AW? Does the club not know that such players’ agents will be working round the clock to do deals with other clubs?

Arsenal fans should know that the only reason AW doesn’t enter the market early is purely economic: to avoid the financial implications of having to keep players on the club’s payroll long before the season begins. Another reason is that AW is afraid of top players who can stand up to his shenanigans, which explains why Arsenal players don’t speak out like their counterparts in other top clubs. Imagine the role Gerard played in keeping Suarez’s in the club last season when AW was playing the ostrich over the player. How many Arsenal players have tried to convince their friends to join them? Giroud will do everything to frustrate a player like Benzema joining Arsenal knowing that his presence may dwarf or diminish his stature. When have you seen Arsenal players individually or collectively prevail on their fellow players from leaving to join a rival club? In short, the docility of Arsenal players towards AW’s lack of ambition suggests that they too lack ambition. For example, several Chelsea players have been publicly expressing their desire to have Fabregas in their team, even a fringe player in Mourinho’s estimation like Torres. Why can’t Arsenal players speak up like people with ambition to win trophies? The two exceptions this time around are Carzola and Kolscieny, with the former urging the club to sign Fabregas, and the latter praying the manager to sign at least 4 quality players.

Knowing that the club is usually involved in many tournaments and conscious of the fact that by the second half of every season, Arsenal capitulates to injuries and lack of depth in the squad, how can any ambitious manager pass on the opportunity of signing a player of Fabregas’ stature, especially when he would cost Arsenal less than £20 million, when u factor in Barcelona’s accrued debt to Arsenal? AW is able to so dictate in Arsenal because there is no single director who has tasted football success either as a player or a manager. So, AW is like one-eyed king in the midst of blind people in the club. So, his personal views and perceptions are inextricably tied to the club’s fortunes and misfortunes. This is sad indeed!

  11. Thank u for this.

  12. No, you do NOT bring back Fabregas, under ANY circumstances. He betrayed us. He stabbed us in the back, right through the heart. We need "a world-class striker," and Man U need money, so why not buy back van Persie? At least while he was under contract to us, and wasn't hurt, he played his ass off and didn't go on strike to force a move back to his boyfriends. A bastard, yes, but a trustworthy one.

Oh, let's not forget The Backheel. Damn, even Ashley Cole and Adebayor never tried a disloyal move like that. Fabregas did -- or do you still think it was simply a mistake? And if it WAS a mistake, then it was a massive choke in a very big game. Why would you want someone like that on your team?

If you still forgive him, then think about this: Fabregas did NOTHING for us. The only trophy he won with us was the 2005 FA Cup. And we were getting dominated by Man U for 86 minutes, at which point he was taken off -- for van Persie. Yes, he played for us in a CL Final. So did Eboue, Senderos and Hleb. Are they "legends"?

The Wenger Outers always claim that merely finishing 4th and qualifying for the CL isn't good enough. If it's not good enough for the manager, why is it good enough for Fabregas? If anything, he didn't carry us, he held us back. A team built around a guy who was constantly hurt and out for himself.

But if those arguments don't sway you, then let's get practical: Who would he replace? Right now, Cesc Fabregas would not make Arsenal's starting lineup. He wouldn't start ahead of Walcott, or Ramsey, or Wilshere, or (bitch, please) Ozil. He wouldn't even be our first-choice backup, ahead of Cazorla. He would be ahead of the aging Rosicky, but not Arteta or Flamini: We do need to replace them, but with a defensive midfielder, which Fabregas isn't. And if we're going to have an injury-plagued midfielder who can't play defense, we might as well use Diaby, who actually wants to play for Arsenal and always has.

Put simply, there is no place for Fabregas at Arsenal -- for reasons bot practical and emotional. It took Arsenal three years to get the smell of piss out of the house. So why would we invite back the man who pissed all over it? Fabregas wanted to go to Barcelona. He got what he wanted, and then he got what he deserved. Let the son of a bitch rot there.

    1. I think you might be rewriting history a little. I can't share your view of the circumstances behind Cesc's departure and I would doubt if you could find many Arsenal fans who would share your desire to van Persie back at the club.

      Delete
    2. I'm not rewriting anything. And many "Arsenal fans" wanted to dump Ramsey. Many "Arsenal fans" wanted to dump Walcott. Many "Arsenal fans" wanted to dump Szczesny. Many "Arsenal fans" said we didn't need Ozil. Many "Arsenal fans" still want to dump Giroud.

Let's face it: If Fabregas were as ugly as Flamini, his fanboys wouldn't be his fanboys. Tony Adams was no matinee idol, but he won; Fabregas was good-looking, and we won nothing with him.

      Delete
    3. What do looks have to do with it. Tony Adams was an idol because he gave his all and led the team like a true captain. The team was seriously under funded when Cesc was in it and promises were made to him and broken. I may not have been happy when he went back to Barca but it was perfectly understandable. If you think he would not make the team any better you're entitled to your opinion but it's one I cannot agree with.
