Predictions for Premier League Gameweek 19

It's that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. The midweek games didn't go too badly but they didn't go too well for me either with five correct outcomes and five incorrect. It means I stay eighth in my predictions league for the moment at least. Here's a look at how the top 10 in my predictions league stands.

West Ham United v West Bromwich Albion

12.45pm GMT, Upton Park, London

West Ham have taken only six points in their last 11 games and are now in the bottom three after all the teams below them won on Thursday. They have only won twice in nine home games and are finding goals very hard to come by. They need to take something from this game to bolster their chances of avoiding the drop.

I can't see any West Ham players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

West Brom have only won once in their last 12 games and not at all in their last eight games. They're only one point above the relegation zone and have only won once in their nine away games. They did very well to get a point at Spurs on Thursday and need to appoint a new manager as soon as possible.

I can't see any West Brom players to recommend at the moment either.

This is a big game for both clubs and I think it has all the hallmarks of a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Aston Villa v Swansea

3pm GMT, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa have lost their last four games and only scored one goal in those games. No other team has lost more home games than Villa and they're the lowest scorers at home too with only six goals in nine games. They're only three points above the relegation zone now and will find themselves in a lot of trouble if they can't reverse their current trend.

There are no Villa players inspiring for fantasy managers at the moment.

Swansea haven't won in their last four games and find themselves only four pouts above the relegation zone as a result. They have managed to win three of their nine away games and only Southampton have conceded less goals away from home. They also need a result to steady the ship and will think they have a good chance to win this game.

It's tough to see any Swansea players making an impression for fantasy managers.

I think Swansea will get an away win in this game.

Prediction: 1-2

Hull City v Fulham

3pm GMT, KC Stadium, Hull

Hull were a little unlucky to lose at home to United on Thursday, but they still have a good home record. They have taken 15 of their 20 points at home and have the joint best defensive record at home. The bottom of the table has really tightened up this week though and they now find themselves only four points above the relegation zone.

Allan McGregor has done well in goal for Hull but he is an injury doubt for this game.

Fulham got a very important win away to Norwich on Thursday, but they're still in the relegation zone on goal difference. They have now taken more points away from home than at home, but only Norwich and Stoke have conceded more goals away from home. They have won two of their last four games and it looks like their new manager might just be capable of keeping them up.

Despite their win at Norwich it's still not easy to see any Fulham players worth picking for fantasy managers.

I think this will be a very close game and might just end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Manchester City v Crystal Palace

3pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City have won all nine of their home games and scored 37 goals in the process with only six conceded. They're only one point behind the leaders but their away form is still a concern for them with trips to almost all of the other title contenders to come in the second half of the season. They will be fancied to win this game by quite a few goals.

David Silva, Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta, Yaya Toure and Alvaro Negredo are all excellent fantasy purchases with Silva probably the best of them.

Palace got a very good last minute win away to Villa on Thursday to move them out of the relegation zone on goal difference. They have won four of their last seven games but no other team has lost more games away from home. I didn't think they were good enough to stay up at the start of the season, but they are making a go of it and could well prove me wrong.

Palace defenders have done well recently but this might not be the game to have them in.

I can't see anything other than a comprehensive victory for City in this game.

Prediction: 4-0

Norwich City v Manchester United

3pm GMT, Carrow Road, Norwich

Norwich had a chance to move well clear of the relegation zone at home to Fulham on Thursday but they were beaten after leading the game. They have taken 11 points in their last eight games, but have only taken one point from their last two home games. Their home form will be crucial if they're going to stay up, but they will find it hard to get a result from this game.

Gary Hooper and Leroy Fer are probably the best fantasy choices in the Norwich team.

United have won their last three games to move up to seventh and only Arsenal and Spurs have won more away games than them. They're the joint highest scorers away from home and are unbeaten in their last six away games. If they're going to have any chance of defending the title they need to continue their current winning streak.

Wayne Rooney is the outstanding fantasy choice in the United team at the moment with Danny Welbeck and Adnan Januzaj possibly worth having too.

I think United will continue their winning ways with a narrow victory.

Prediction: 1-2

Cardiff City v Sunderland

5.30pm GMT, Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff

Cardiff have only taken five points in their last eight games and they're only one point above the relegation zone. Only Palace have scored less goals than Cardiff and their position has cost Malky Mackay his job. They have won three of their home games but have struggled to score at home with only Villa and Palace scoring less at home.

Steven Caulker, David Marshall and Peter Whittingham are all worth considering for fantasy managers at the moment.

Sunderland got a very important win away to Everton on Thursday but they're still bottom of the table. It was their first away win of the season and they're the lowest scorers away from home with three goals in nine games. They have been solid in defence recently with three clean sheets in a row and that defence could be what keeps them in the league if they can manage to start scoring a few more goals.

Vito Mannone has being doing very well in goal for Sunderland and is available at a very good price too.

I think this will be a very close game and could end with the honours even.

Prediction: 1-1

Sunday December 29

Everton v Southampton

1.30pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton lost at home to bottom club Sunderland on Thursday to end their unbeaten home record for the year. They've still lost less league games than any other team and they're only two points off fourth place, but they need to win this game. They have some supposedly easy games coming up but Sunderland showed them that no game is an easy one in the Premier League.

Seamus Coleman and Phil Jagielka are probably the best fantasy choices in the Everton team with Tim Howard suspended and Romelu Lukaku firing blanks at the moment.

Southampton got a win away to Cardiff on Thursday to end a run of six games without a victory. They have only lost three of their away games and have the joint best defensive record away from home. They play good football and the victory at Cardiff will have helped to rebuild their confidence, but a trip to Everton is no easy task.

Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez are both looking good for fantasy managers at the moment.

This could be a very close game, but I think Everton will just shade it.

Prediction: 2-1

Newcastle United v Arsenal

1.30pm GMT, St. James' Park, Newcastle

Newcastle have taken 22 points in their last nine games and have kept clean sheets in four of them. They're three points off a top four place and have only been beaten once at home so far. Their confidence is high with wins and clean sheets against Chelsea, Spurs and United included in their great run.

Yohan Cabaye, Loric Remy and Yoan Gouffran are good fantasy choices and Mathieu Debuchey is worth considering too.

Arsenal won away to West Ham to regain top spot on Thursday and will want to win again to stay top. No other team has won more away games or scored more away goals than Arsenal. They will have their work cut out against a good Newcastle team, but they are more than capable of winning this game.

Theo Walcott looks like he could be the must have Arsenal player at the moment with Mesut Ozil and possibly Lukas Podolski worth considering too.

This could be a very good and tight game and I think Arsenal will win it.

Prediction: 1-2

Chelsea v Liverpool

4pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea have won eight and drawn one of their nine home games and only City and Liverpool have scored more home goals than them. They have kept clean sheets in their last two games and only Everton have conceded less goals than Chelsea. It would seem Jose Mourinho has reverted to type and is determined to win the league or bore everyone to death trying to do so.

Eden Hazard looks like the must have Chelsea player with John Terry a good bet too.

Liverpool were a little unlucky to lose to City on Thursday and that defeat saw them drop from first to fourth. They have only won three of their nine away games and conceded 15 goals in those games. With Luis Suarez in their team they will trouble any team, but a trip to Chelsea will be very tough for them straight after their trip to City.

Suarez remains the best choice for fantasy managers in the Liverpool team with Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson worth considering too.

This should be another very close game and I have a feeling it will end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Tottenham Hotspur v Stoke City

4pm GMT, White Hart Lane, London

Spurs have appointed Tim Sherwood as their manager until the end of next season, but they still couldn't win at home to West Brom on Thursday. They have only won three of their nine home games and only scored eight goals in those games. They're still only five points off a top four place though and could be a lot closer to the top four if they can win this game.

It's always a risk picking Emmanuel Adebayor but he could be the best choice in the Spurs team at the moment.

Stoke were looking good when they led 1-0 away to Newcastle on Thursday, but got two players sent off and ended up losing 5-1. They have only won once away from home and only Norwich have conceded more goals away from home than Stoke. They're in the top half of the table but they are six points behind the team above them and only five points clear of the relegation zone.

Stoke defenders are usually reliable fantasy choices and Ryan Shawcross is probably the best of them with Asmir Begovic currently injured.

Stoke will make things hard for Spurs but I think the home team will get a narrow victory.

Prediction: 1-0

That's it for this week.

See you next week.
