Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 20

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t do too well last week with one perfect prediction, two correct outcomes and eight incorrect outcomes, but most players didn’t do too well either. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

My choice of Erling Haaland as my captain didn’t work out for me last week and my team did very badly with only Gabriel Magahlaes, Kieran Trippier and Mason Mount getting any points. I lost a lot of ground overall in what is becoming a very poor season for me despite my best efforts. With two games this week Haaland is going to be my captain again and I’ll stack up on City and United players too if possible.

Friday 13 January

Aston Villa v Leeds United

8pm GMT, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa drew 1-1 at home to Wolves last week, but they’re still three points off the top half of the table. They have only taken one point from their last two home games, but their next two home games are against teams below them. They have taken 10 points from their last five games and they have a good run of games coming up.

I’m still not sure there are any Villa players showing enough consistency to interest fantasy managers.

Leeds drew 2-2 at home to West Ham last week and that was enough to keep them two points above the relegation zone. They have taken four points from their last three away games including a win at Liverpool, but no other team has taken less points on the road. They haven’t won in four games and they conceded nine goals in those games with only three other teams conceding more goals.

Rodrigo is the Leeds player to have for fantasy managers  with Crysencio Summerville worth considering too.

I think this is a difficult game to call, but the chances are Villa will win narrowly.

Prediction: 2-1

Saturday 14 January

Manchester United v Manchester City

12.30pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester

United won 3-0 at home to Brentford last week and they will be within one point of City if they can win this game. They have won their last four home games and they kept clean sheets in the last five with no other team conceding less goals on their own ground. They have won their last four games and they only conceded one goal in those games, but they have to play the top two in two of their next three games.

Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw are in great form for fantasy managers at the moment while Bruno Fernandes might be worth considering too as they play twice this week.

City won 1-0 away to Chelsea last week to move within five points of Arsenal at the top of the table. They have won their last three away games and they only conceded one goal in those games with no other team conceding less goals on their travels. With four of their next six games against other top six teams they could stamp their authority on the league if things go their way.

Erling Haaland remains the absolute must have City player for fantasy managers while Riyad Mahrez could do well too if he keeps his place in the team and they play twice this week.

I think this will be another very close game with City probably taking the three points.

Prediction: 1-2

Brighton And Hove Albion v Liverpool

3pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton won 4-1 away to Everton last week to remain comfortably in the top half of the table. They have only won once in their last five home games and this game will be a really tough one for them too. They have won four of their last six games and they scored 17 goals in those games, but they didn’t keep a clean sheet in any of them.

Pascal Gross, Solly March, Kaoru Mitoma and Evan Ferguson are all looking very good for fantasy managers at the moment and they’re all available at a good price.

Liverpool lost 3-1 away to Brentford last week and they’re 16 points off the top of the table with the season almost halfway over. They have only won two of their eight away games and they have conceded more goals than they have scored on the road. They had won four games in a row before losing to Brentford, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet in seven games.

Mohamed Salah is the best of the Liverpool players for fantasy managers with Darwin Nunez worth considering too if he can put away a few of the chances that keep coming his way.

This is yet another game which is very tough to call and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 2-2

Everton v Southampton

3pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton lost 4-1 at home to Brighton last week and that defeat saw them drop into the bottom three. They have lost their last three home games and they conceded eight goals in those games with only Southampton taking less points on their own ground. They have only taken two points from their last six games with only Wolves and Forest scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Southampton lost 1-0 at home to Forest last week to leave themselves rooted to the foot of the table. They have lost their last three away games and no other team has lost more games on the road. They have lost their last six games and they have only kept one clean sheet so far with only Bournemouth and Forest conceding more goals.

I can’t see any Southampton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment either.

This is a huge game for two teams at the wrong end of the table and I think Everton might just shade it.

Prediction: 2-1

Nottingham Forest v Leicester City

3pm GMT, City Ground, Nottingham

Forest won 1-0 away to Southampton last week and that win was enough to move them out of the relegation zone. They are unbeaten in five home games and their next two home games are against the teams directly above them. They have only lost two of their last eight games, but only Bournemouth have conceded more goals.

Despite their recent improvement I still can’t see any Forest players to interest fantasy managers.

Leicester lost 1-0 at home to Fulham last week and they’re only ahead of Forest on goal difference going into this game.  They have won three of their last four away games, but only Southampton have lost more games on the road while only Brighton and Arsenal have scored more goals. They have lost their last three games and they only scored one goal in those games with only three other teams conceding more goals.

I’m not sure there are any Leicester players to interest fantasy managers at the moment.

Like so many games this week it’s not easy to call this game, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end all square.

Prediction: 1-1

Wolverhampton Wanderers v West Ham United

3pm GMT, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton

Wolves drew 1-1 away to Villa last week, but it wasn’t enough to get them out of the bottom three. They have lost their last four home games and they failed to score in three of them with no other team scoring less goals on their own patch. They have taken four points from their last three games, but they have two very tough games after this one and no other team has scored less goals.

I can’t see any Wolves players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

West Ham drew 2-2 away to Leeds last week and that point was just enough to keep them out of the relegation zone on goal difference. They have only taken two points from their last six away games with only Forest scoring less goals on their travels. The draw with Leeds was their first point in six games and only three other teams have scored less goals.

I can’t see any West Ham players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment either.

I don’t think we’ll see too many goals in this game, but the chances are Wolves will get the better of West Ham.

Prediction: 1-0

Brentford v Bournemouth

5.30pm GMT, Gtech Community Stadium, London

Brentford won 3-1 at home to Liverpool last week and that win kept them safely in the top half of the table. They have only lost one home game so far with only four other teams scoring more goals at home. They are unbeaten in six games and they have a very good run of games coming up.

If he’s fit to play Ivan Toney is the Brentford player to have for fantasy managers.

Bournemouth lost 3-0 away to United last week and they’re now only one point above the bottom three. They have lost their last four away games and they conceded 11 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals on the road. They have lost seven of their last eight games and they failed to score in five of those games with no other team conceding more goals.

I can’t see any Bournemouth players doing enough to tempt fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Brentford will be too strong for Bournemouth and should win with a few goals to spare.

Prediction: 3-0

Sunday 15 January

Chelsea v Crystal Palace

2pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea lost 1-0 at home to City and 2-1 away to Fulham last week and they’re now as close to the relegation zone as they are to the top four. They have only won once in their last four home games, but they don’t play any of the other big six games in their next 10 home games. They have only won once in their last nine games and no other team in the top half of the table has scored less goals.

I can’t see any Chelsea players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Palace lost 4-0 at home to Spurs last week and they’re quickly falling further away from the top half of the table at the moment. They have won two of their last three away games, but they were both against teams at the wrong end of the table. They have lost three of their last four games and their next three games after this one are all against teams in the top four.

With two games this week Eberechi Eze and Wilfried Zaha might be worth considering for fantasy managers.

I think Chelsea will get a much needed win in this game, but not by much.

Prediction: 1-0

Newcastle United v Fulham

2pm GMT, St. James’s Park, Newcastle

Newcastle drew 0-0 away to Arsenal last week and they’re still in the top four going into this game. They’re one of two teams still unbeaten at home, but no other team has drawn more games or conceded less goals at home. They’re unbeaten in 13 games and they kept clean sheets in eight of them with no other team conceding less goals.

They are quite a few Newcastle players doing very well for fantasy managers at the moment with Nick Pope, Kiernan Trippier and Miguel Almiron all great choices along with all of their defenders.

Fulham won 1-0 away to Leicester and 2-1 at home to Chelsea last week to move up to sixth in the table. They have won three of their last four away games, but they have some tough away games coming up. They have won their last four games and they only conceded two goals in those games with only four other teams scoring more goals.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is the Fulham player to have for fantasy managers with Andreas Pereira a good option too.

I think Newcastle will continue their impressive form by winning this game with a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 3-1

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal

4.30pm GMT, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Spurs won 4-0 away to Palace last week and they’re 11 points behind Arsenal going into this game. They have lost three of their last four home games and they conceded nine goals in those games. They have lost four of their last eight games and three of their next four games are against the top two.

Harry Kane is the Spurs player to have for fantasy managers.

Arsenal drew 0-0 at home to Newcastle last week and that point saw their lead at the top of the table cut to five points. They have taken 16 points from their last six away games with no other team taking more points or conceding less goals on their travels. They have taken 29 points from their last 11 games with only City scoring more goals and only Newcastle conceding less.

Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah are all in great form for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think this will be a very close game with a draw being the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 2-2

Wednesday 18 January

Crystal Palace v Manchester United

8pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London

Palace play their second game of the week and they’re both against big six teams. They have lost their last two home games and they conceded seven goals in those games with only Southampton conceding more goals on their own ground. It could be a tough week for Palace and they will do well to get any points from their two games.

The Palace players I mentioned above could all do well for fantasy managers, but maybe not this week.

United play their second game of the week and a trip to Palace can’t be as difficult as a home game against City. They have taken 10 points from their last five away games since losing 6-3 to City and their next away game is against the team at the top of the table. This could be a very good week for United and two wins could make them genuine title contenders, but City won’t make it easy for them.

The United players I mentioned already could all have a good week for fantasy m managers and especially in this game.

I think United should have enough to take the three points, but not by much.

Prediction: 1-2

Thursday 19 January

Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur

8pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City play their second game of the week and they’re both against teams not too far behind them in the table. They have won their last three away games and they only conceded one goal in those games with no other team conceding less goals away from home. They could potentially go back to the top of the table if they can win both games and Spurs put a stop to Arsenal.

If City do well this week Haaland could have a great week for fantasy managers, but it’s hard to know which other City players will play both games.

Spurs play their second game of the week and they’re both against teams above them in the table. They have taken seven points from their last three away games and they scored nine goals in those games with only three other teams scoring more goals on the road. If they lose both of their games this week they will have an awful lot of ground to make up on the top four.

Despite the quality of the opposition this week the chances are Harry Kane will do well for fantasy managers with a chance of some record breaking in his sights.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable City victory in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
