Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 10

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t do too well last week with just four correct outcomes and six incorrect outcomes which saw me drop to second place in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

My choice of Erling Haaland as my captain worked out very well for me again last week and I just can’t see a better option than him as my captain yet again this week. Only three other players proved to be of any worth to me last week and James Maddison helped me to gain a little ground overall thanks to his great return against Forest on Monday night. I have 2 free transfers this week and I’ll have to really consider my options knowing that both Arsenal and City don’t play in 2 weeks time and I have five of their players in my squad.

Saturday October 8

Bournemouth v Leicester City

3pm BST, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth

Bournemouth drew 0-0 at home to Brentford last week to make it six points from four unbeaten games since losing 9-0 to Liverpool. They have only lost one of their four home games and they kept clean sheets in the other three games. They have taken six points from their last four games, but only the bottom two teams have conceded more goals.

Despite their recent improvement I still can’t see any Bournemouth players who might make a real difference for fantasy managers.

Leicester won 4-0 at home to Forest last week to claim their first win of the season and lift themselves off the foot of the table. They’re the only team without a point away from home and no other team has conceded more goals on their travels. Despite their lowly position only five other teams have scored more goals, but no other team has conceded more.

James Maddison showed just how good he can be for fantasy managers against Forest and I have no doubt his ownership will rise very quickly.

I think Bournemouth will give it their best effort, but the chances are Leicester will make it back to back wins with a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 1-3

Chelsea v Wolverhampton Wanderers

3pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea got a last minute goal to win 2-1 away to Palace last week and that point moved them within one point of the top four. They have taken seven points from their three home games, but they play three of the rest of the big six teams in their next five games on their own ground. They have won three of their last four games, but they need to find the back of the net more often.

Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount could be the Chelsea players to have for fantasy managers while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be considered too.

Wolves lost 2-0 away to West Ham last week and that defeat saw them drop into the bottom three as well as costing their manager his job. They have only taken one point and scored one goal in their four away games with no other team scoring less goals on the road. They have only scored one goal in their last four games with no other team scoring less goals so far.

I can’t see any Wolves players to interest fantasy managers at the moment, but that could change over the next few weeks.

I think Chelsea will make it three wins in a row by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 2-0

Manchester City v Southampton

3pm BST, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City won 6-3 at home to United last week to stay one point behind Arsenal at the top of the table. They’re one of three teams with a 100% record at home and no other team has scored more goals on their own patch. They will go top of the table if they win and Arsenal don’t bear Liverpool while no other team has scored more goals and the expectation is they will brush Southampton aside in this game.

Erling Haaland is an absolute must have for fantasy managers while Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne are all great choices too along with Joao Cancelo.

Southampton lost 2-1 at home to Everton last week and they’re now only two places and one point above the relegation zone. They have lost three of their four away games and they will have their work cut out to keep the score respectable in this game. They have lost their last three games and they only scored one goal in those games which doesn’t auger well for this game.

I’m not sure there are any Southampton players doing enough to turn the heads of fantasy managers at the moment.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable City victory in this game.

Prediction: 5-1

Newcastle United v Brentford

3pm BST, St. James’s Park, Newcastle

Newcastle won 4-1 away to 10 man Fulham last week and that win moved them within three points of the top four. They’re unbeaten at home, but they have drawn three of their four home games with no other team drawing more games on their own ground. Only City have lost less games and only Everton have conceded less goals, but no other team has drawn more games.

Newcastle’s defenders have done well for fantasy managers with Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar and Nick Pope all worth considering while Callum Wilson isn’t the worst choice either as long as he stays fit.

Brentford drew 0-0 away to Bournemouth last week and that point was just enough to keep them in the top half of the table on goal difference. They haven’t won away from home yet, but no other team has drawn more games on the road. They have only won once in their last six games and they failed to score in their last two, but only four other teams have scored more goals.

Ivan Toney has been the stand out Brentford player for fantasy managers, but he hasn’t scored in his last two games.

I think this will be a fairly close game, but Newcastle should manage to make it back to back wins.

Prediction: 2-1

Brighton And Hove Albion v Tottenham Hotspur

12.30pm BST, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton drew 3-3 away to Liverpool last week and that point kept them in the top four just three points behind Spurs going into this game. They have taken seven points from their three home games with no other team conceding less goals on their own ground. They have only lost one game so far, but they face three of the big six in their next five games and only Everton have conceded less goals.

Leandro Trossard, Pascal Gross and Alexis MacAllister are the Brighton players impressing for fantasy managers at the moment.

Spurs lost 3-1 away to Arsenal last week and they’re now four points off the top of the table. They have only won once in their four away games and their next away game after this is a trip to United. They had won five of their seven games before losing to Arsenal and only the top two have scored more goals.

Harry Kane is the Spurs player to have for fantasy managers while Heung-Min Son can be considered too.

I think this will be a very close game with a draw the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Sunday October 9

Crystal Palace v Leeds United

2pm BST, Selhurst Park, London

Palace lost 2-1 at home to Chelsea last week and they’re now only above the bottom three on goal difference. They have only won once in their four home games, but they have some good home fixtures coming up. They have only taken two points from their last four games, but they don’t play any of the big six in their next nine games.

Wilfried Zaha is the Palace player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers.

Leeds drew 0-0 at home to Villa last week and they’re only one point off the top half of the table going into this game. They have only taken one point from their three away games  and they have conceded six goals in their last two games on the road. They have only taken two points from their last four games and they play four of the big six in their next eight games.

I’m not sure there are any Leeds players doing enough to recommend them to fantasy managers at the moment, but both Rodrigo and Patrick Bamford could change that opinion over the next few weeks.

I think Palace will get a much needed win in this game by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 2-0

West Ham United v Fulham

2pm BST, London Stadium, London

West Ham won 2-0 at home to Wolves last week and that win was enough to move them out of the relegation zone. That was their first home win of the season with only Forest taking less points on their own patch. They have had a slow start to the season as they have struggled to score goals with only Wolves scoring less, but three of their next four games are very good ones.

Jarrod Bowen finally managed to return some points for fantasy managers last week and he looks like he might just be hitting his form of last season.

Fulham lost 4-1 at home to Newcastle last week after having a man sent off, but they managed to stay in the top half of the table. They won their last away game against Forest after only taking one point from the previous three. They have lost two of their last three games and they conceded eight goals in those three games with only three other teams conceding more goals.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is the Fulham player to have for fantasy managers as long as he’s passed fit to play.

I think West Ham’s improvement will continue as they make it two wins in a row in this game.

Prediction: 1-0

Arsenal v Liverpool

4.30pm BST, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal won 3-1 at home to Spurs last week to stay one point ahead of City at the top of the table. They are one of three teams with a 100% record at home, but this will be their biggest home test so far. They have won seven of their eight games with only City scoring more goals and only Everton conceding less.

Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard are all very good choices for fantasy managers with Arsenal’s defenders all looking pretty good too.

Liverpool drew 3-3 at home to Brighton last week and they’re 11 points and eight places behind Arsenal going into this game. They haven’t won away from home yet and they have only scored three goals in their three away games. They have taken eight points from their last four games and they scored 14 goals in those games with only the top three scoring more, but only Newcastle have drawn more games.

Despite their poor start to the season both Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz are doing pretty well for fantasy managers.

This is a very tough game to call, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the spoils shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Everton v Manchester United

7pm BST, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton came from behind to win 2-1 away to Southampton last week and they’re now only outside the top half of the table on goal difference. They have taken five points from their last three home games and they only conceded one goal in those games with no other team scoring or conceding less goals on their own ground. They’re unbeaten in six games, but they have drawn four of them with no other team conceding less goals and only Newcastle drawing more games.

Conor Coady has done well in recent weeks for fantasy managers and he’s definitely one to watch.

United lost 6-3 away to City last week to put an end their their good run of results, but they’re still only two points off the top four. Only three other teams have taken more points on their travels, but only three teams have conceded more goals away from home too. They had won four games in a row before losing to City, but they have a tough run of games over the next few weeks.

Marcus Rashford could be the United player to have for fantasy managers with both Anthony Martial and Antony possibilities too.

I think United will bounce back from their derby defeat last week to narrowly win this game.

Prediction: 1-2

Monday October 10

Nottingham Forest v Aston Villa

8pm BST, City Ground, Nottingham

Forest lost 4-0 away to Leicester last week and that defeat saw them drop to the foot of the table. They have lost their last three home games and they conceded eight goals in those three games with no other team taking less points at home. They have lost their last five games and they conceded 18 goals in those games with only Leicester conceding more goals.

I can’t see any Forest players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Villa drew 0-0 away to Leeds last week, buy they’re only two points above the bottom three. Only Leicester have taken less points away from home with only Forest and Wolves scoring less goals on the road. They’re unbeaten in three games and they only conceded one goal in those games, but they only scored two with only Wolves and West Ham scoring less goals.

Emiliano Martinez has looked good for fantasy managers recently while Ollie Watkins could do well over the next few weeks too.

I think Villa will take advantage of Forest’s poor start to the season to win this game by a single goal.

Prediction: 0-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
