Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Eight

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t do too badly in the last round of games with two perfect predictions, two correct outcomes and six incorrect outcomes which leaves me on top of my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

My choice of Erling Haaland as my captain worked well for me again with both Ivan Toney and Aleksandar Mitrovic doing well too. I didn’t get anything from any of my defenders, midfielders or keeper though and I did well to improve my overall position considering eight of my team failed to impress. I can’t see a better option than Haaland this week either with three games called off even if City do travel to a Wolves team who don’t concede too many goals.

Thanks to the postponements I will have to think long and hard about my team as I only have eight players available to play as it stands, but I do have two free transfers. It’s been a very strange time for fantasy football for obvious reasons with all of last week’s games called off and I’m still not certain the seven games will all go ahead this week.

Friday September 16

Aston Villa v Southampton

8pm BST, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa got a very good point in a 1-1 draw at home to City in their last game and that was just enough to keep them out of the bottom three. All of their points so far have come at home and they will be hoping to get their second win in this game. They have only taken one point from their last four games with only three other teams conceding more goals.

I can’t see any Villa players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Southampton lost 1-0 away to Wolves in their last game and they’re three points ahead of Villa going into this game. They have lost two of their three away games, but they will want to get something from this game with a trip to City in their next away game. They have won two of their last four games, but only three other teams have conceded more goals.

James Ward-Prowse is still the best of the Southampton players for fantasy managers.

I think this will be a close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Nottingham Forest v Fulham

8pm BST, City Ground, Nottingham

Forest led 2-0 at home to Bournemouth in their last game, but they lost 3-2 and that defeat saw them drop to second last in the table. They have lost their last two home games and they conceded five goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals on their own patch. They have lost their last three games and they conceded 11 goals in those games with only Bournemouth and Leicester conceding more goals.

It’s still not easy to see which Forest players can do well for fantasy managers.

Fulham lost 2-1 away to Spurs in their last game, but they are still comfortably in mid-table on their return to the top flight. They have only taken one point away from home, but they did play two of the top three in their three away games. They have a good run of games coming up and they will hope to build on their good start to the season in those games.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is the Fulham player to have for fantasy managers while Andreas Pereira is worth considering too.

I think this will be a close game with Fulham probably taking the three points.

Prediction: 1-2

Saturday September 17

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester City

12.30pm BST, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton

Wolves won 1-0 at home to Southampton last time out to get their first win of the season. They’re still unbeaten at home, but they have drawn two of their three home games. No other team has conceded less goals so far, but no other team has scored less goals either.

Nathan Collins and Max Kilman have done very well at a good price for fantasy managers, but they have two very tough games in their next three fixtures.

City drew 1-1 away to Villa in their last game and that draw moved them within one point of Arsenal at the top of the table. They have only won once in their three away games and they drew the other two with no other team scoring more goals away from home. They’re one of two teams still unbeaten, but no other team has scored more goals.

Erling Haaland is an absolute must have for fantasy managers while Kevin de Bruyne and all of the City defenders and keeper are good choices too with Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva also worth considering.

I think City should be good enough to get the better of Wolves with a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 0-2

Newcastle United v Bournemouth

3pm BST, St. James’s Park, Newcastle

Newcastle drew 0-0 at home to Palace in their last game and they’re only one point off the top half of the table. They are still unbeaten at home, but they have drawn two of their three home games. Their only defeat so far came away to Liverpool, but no other team has drawn more games.

Alexander Isak looks like he could be a good choice for fantasy managers along with Allan Saint-Maximin, Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar.

Bournemouth came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 away to Forest in their last game and they’re level on points with Newcastle going into this game despite some heavy defeats. They have lost two of their three away games and they have conceded 15 goals in those three games. Despite conceding 18 goals in their six games they have still managed to take seven points and they only play one of the big six in their next nine games.

Dominic Solanke is the Bournemouth player who might be of interest to fantasy managers if they’re brave enough to pick a Bournemouth player.

I think Newcastle should be good enough to win this game with a few goals to spare.

Prediction: 3-0

Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester City

5.30pm BST, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Spurs won 2-1 at home to Fulham in their last game to move within one point of the leaders. They have won all of their home games so far with only Wolves conceding less goals on their own ground. They will want to take all three points in this game before making the trip to league leaders and local rivals Arsenal next week.

Harry Kane seems to be the best of the Spurs players for fantasy managers at the moment.

Leicester lost 5-2 away to Brighton last time out and they’re already adrift at the foot of the table with only one point from six games. They’re one of two teams without a point away from home with only Bournemouth conceding more goals on their travels. Their games get a bit easier after this one, but they have already lost five games and only Bournemouth have conceded more goals.

Despite their league position James Maddison has done pretty well for fantasy managers and he is definitely worth considering.

I think Spurs will continue their unbeaten start to their league by taking the three points in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Sunday September 18

Brentford v Arsenal

12pm BST, Brentford Community Stadium, London

Brentford won 5-2 at home to Leeds in their last game and they’re in eighth place going into this game. They are unbeaten at home with only City and Liverpool scoring more goals on their own ground. They have had a very good start to their season and they have a good run of games coming up with only City scoring more goals.

Ivan Toney is in fantastic form for fantasy managers at the moment with Mathias Jensen doing fairly well too.

Arsenal lost 3-1 away to United in their last game, but they managed to stay one point clear at the top of the table. They have won two of their three away games and no other team has scored more goals on the road. They need to get the three points from this game with Spurs and Liverpool to play in their next two games.

There are a lot of Arsenal players doing very well for fantasy managers at the moment with Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba all very good options.

I think this will be a very close game with Arsenal probably coming out with a narrow victory.

Prediction: 1-2

Everton v West Ham United

2.15pm BST, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton drew 0-0 at home to Liverpool in their last game and that point was enough to keep them out of the relegation zone. They’re one of three teams without a home win so far and no other team has scored less goals at home. They’re one of two teams without a win, but no other team has drawn more games with only West Ham and Wolves scoring less goals.

Anthony Gordon is the Everton player who looks most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

West Ham lost 2-1 away to Chelsea in their last game and that defeat meant they are still in the bottom three. Their only win so far came away from home and they will fancy their chances in this game too. They have a good run of games coming up, but they need to find the target more often with no other team scoring less goals.

None of the West Ham players have done too much for fantasy managers so far, but that could change over their next few games.

I don’t think we will see too many goals in this game, but the chances are West Ham will take the three points.

Prediction: 0-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
