My choice of Phillippe Coutinho for my captain last week worked out very well for me and I’ll be going with another player who has two games this week. With Mohamed Salah fitting into that category I can’t see a better option. There are six teams playing twice this week so there are plenty of other options to consider, but anyone other than Salah just doesn’t make sense to me.
Saturday 12 March
Brighton And Hove Albion v Liverpool
12.30pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Brighton lost 2-1 away to Newcastle last week and they have now dropped into the bottom half of the table. They haven’t won in their last four home games and no other team has scored less goals on their own patch. They have lost their last four games and they only scored one goal in those games with no other team drawing more games.
The way Brighton’s results have gone recently I can’t see any of their players to recommend to fantasy managers despite having two games this week.
Liverpool won 1-0 at home to West Ham last week and they’re still six points behind City at the top of the table with a game in hand. They have won their last two away games and no other team has scored more goals on their travels. They have won their last seven games and they scored 19 goals in those games while only conceding two with no other team scoring more goals.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the best of the Liverpool players for fantasy managers, but all of their defenders and keeper are very good options too with two games this week.
I think Liverpool will continue their pursuit of City by winning this game with a couple of goals to spare.
Prediction: 1-3
Brentford v Burnley
3pm GMT, Brentford Community Stadium, London
Brentford won 3-1 away to Norwich last week to give themselves some breathing space at the wrong end of the table. They have only taken one point from their last four home games with only Norwich and Watford losing more games on their own ground. The win against Norwich was their first win in nine games and a win in this game would be nearly enough to keep them in the top flight for another season.
Ivan Toney showed why he is the best of the Brentford players for fantasy managers last week and he could do well again this week.
Burnley lost 4-0 at home to Chelsea last week, but they’re still only one point away from safety at the wrong end of the table. They have taken five points from their last three away games, but only Norwich and Everton have scored less goals on the road. They lost their last two games without scoring after turning things around recently with only Norwich scoring less goals.
I don’t think there are any Burnley players to interest fantasy managers at the moment.
This isn’t an easy game to call, but the chances are the points will be shared.
Prediction: 1-1
Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur
5.30pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester
United lost 4-1 away to City last week and that defeat saw them drop out of the top four. They have only won once in their last three home games and they need to take the three points in this game. They have only won two of their last six games, but they drew three of them and Southampton are the only team in the top half of the table to have conceded more goals.
With another tough game this week it’s difficult to see which United players will do well for fantasy managers, but Bruno Fernandes is usually the best bet.
Spurs won 5-0 at home to Everton last week to stay within three points of the top four. They have won four of their last six away games and they will fancy their chances in this game. They have won their last two games and they scored nine goals in those games after losing four of their previous five games.
Both Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son are in very good form for fantasy managers at the moment while Dejan Kulusevski has done well since joining Spurs in January and they play twice this week.
I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.
Prediction: 2-2
Sunday 13 March
Chelsea v Newcastle United
2pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London
Chelsea won 4-0 away to Burnley and 3-1 away to Norwich last week and they’re now 13 points behind City at the top of the table with a game in hand. They have only won two of their last seven home games, but they drew the other five with only the top two scoring more and only Liverpool conceding less goals at home. They have won their last four games and they only conceded one goal in those games with only City conceding less goals.
Chelsea’s defenders and keeper are still their best bets for fantasy managers while Mason Mount is the attacking player most likely to impress.
Newcastle won 2-1 at home to Brighton and by the same score away to Southampton last week and they most surely be safe now with 10 points to spare over the bottom three. They have won their last three home games, but only three other teams have conceded more goals at home. They have taken 21 points from their last nine games, but only three other teams have conceded more goals.
Both Ryan Fraser and Joe Willock are the Newcastle players most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers in the two games they play this week.
I think Chelsea will continue their impossible chase of the top two by taking the three points in this game.
Prediction: 3-1
Everton v Wolverhampton Wanderers
2pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool
Everton lost 5-0 away to Spurs last week to remain a single point above the relegation zone. They have lost six of their last nine home games, but it’s their home results which are just about keeping them out of the bottom three. They have lost seven of their last eight games and they haven’t scored in their last three games.
Despite having two games this week I still can’t see any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers.
Wolves lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace and won 4-0 at home to Watford last week, but they’re still in eighth place. They have lost their last two away games after winning the previous four and only the top three have taken more points on the road. They won their last game after losing the previous three, but they have a good run of games coming up which could see them close in on the top four again.
Raul Jiminez looks like he could be of interest to fantasy managers again while the Wolves defenders and keeper are also worth considering.
I think Wolves should be good enough to win this game and put Everton under even more pressure.
Prediction: 0-1
Leeds United v Norwich City
2pm GMT, Elland Road, Leeds
Leeds lost 1-0 away to Leicester and 3-0 at home to Villa last week and they stayed two points above the bottom three. They have lost their last four home games and they conceded 12 goals in those games with only Watford and Norwich conceding more goals on their own ground. They have lost their last six games and they conceded 21 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals.
Raphinha is the only Leeds player for fantasy managers to consider, but he hasn’t done much recently.
Norwich lost 3-1 at home to both Brentford and Chelsea last week to remain at the foot of the table. They have lost five of their last six away games with no other team scoring less and only Leeds conceding more goals away from home. They have lost their last five games and they conceded 15 goals in those games with no other team scoring less goals and only Leeds conceding more.
Teemu Pukki has shown recently that he might be the Norwich player for fantasy managers to own.
This is a huge game for both teams and I think Leeds might just get a badly needed win in it.
Prediction: 2-1
Southampton v Watford
2pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton
Southampton lost 4-0 away to Villa and 2-1 at home to Newcastle last week, but they managed to hold on to their place in the top half of the table. Their lost their last home game after going the previous 10 unbeaten and no other team has drawn more games at home. They lost their last two games after only losing one of the previous 10, but they have a good run of games coming up.
Che Adams and James Ward-Prowse have been the Southampton players to have recently for fantasy managers, but they didn’t do anything in their two games last week.
Watford lost 3-2 at home to Arsenal and 4-0 away to Wolves last week to stay in second last place in the table. They have only lost two of their last six away games, but they drew three of them and it’s their away form which is keeping their survival hopes alive. They have lost 12 of their last 16 games, but they’re still within three points of safety.
I can’t see any Watford players doing enough to make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Southampton will get back on track by taking the three points in this game.
Prediction: 3-0
West Ham United v Aston Villa
2pm GMT, London Stadium, London
West Ham lost 1-0 away to Liverpool last week and they’re now in sixth place with a top four finish looking like a tough prospect at this stage. They have taken 10 points from their last five home games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games. They have only won two of their last seven games and they need to take the three points in this game.
With Jarrod Bowen injured I’m not sure there are any West Ham players to recommend this week at least.
Villa won 4-0 at home to Southampton and 3-0 away to Leeds last week and those six points were enough to move them into the top half of the table. They have won four of their last six away games and they kept clean sheets in each of those wins. They have won their last three games without conceding a goal, but they have a very tough run of games coming up.
Phillippe Coutinho is the in form Villa player for fantasy managers with both Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings impressing recently too.
I think this will be a very close game and the chances are the points will be shared.
Prediction: 1-1
Arsenal v Leicester City
4.30pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal won 3-2 away to Watford last week and those three points were enough to move them into the top four. They have taken 22 points from their last nine home games with only the top two taking more points on their own patch and only Liverpool conceding less goals. They have won their last four games and their chances of finishing in the top four are in their own hands with games in hand on all of the other contenders.
With two games this week Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette look like very good choices for fantasy managers even if one of those games is against Liverpool.
Leicester won 1-0 at home to Leeds last week and they’re only two points off the top half of the table with games in hand on the teams directly above them. They won their last away game after losing the previous four and only four other teams have conceded more goals on their travels. They have won their last two games after failing to win the previous five, but they have a tough run of games at the moment.
If he’s fit James Maddison is the Leicester player to have for fantasy managers while Harvey Barnes has impressed recently too.
I think Leicester will make a game of it, but the chances are Arsenal will take the three points.
Prediction: 2-1
Monday 14 March
Crystal Palace v Manchester City
8pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London
Palace won 2-0 away to Wolves last week, but it wasn’t enough to keep them in the top half of the table as Villa won twice. They have only taken one point from their last four home games and they will do very well to get anything from this game. They have taken seven points and scored seven goals in their last three games after failing to win the previous six and Leicester are the only team in the bottom half of the table to have scored more goals.
With a very hard game this week it’s difficult to see any Palace players who might do well for fantasy managers.
City won 4-1 at home to United last week to maintain their their six point lead at the top of the table. They have taken 28 points from their last 10 away games and no other team has taken more points or conceded less goals on the road. They have won 16 of their last 18 games with only Liverpool scoring more goals and no other team conceding less.
Kevin de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez showed why they are the pick of the City attacking players last week while all of their defenders and keeper are good choices too.
I think this will be a close game, but City should be strong enough to take all three points.
Prediction: 1-2
Wednesday 16 March
Brighton And Hove Albion v Tottenham Hotspur
7.30pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Brighton play their second home game of the week and it’s against another one of the big six teams. After their recent poor run they couldn’t ask for a much harder week, but they have proven to be a tough team to beat. This is the easier of their two games this week and they will hope to get something from it.
It’s not a great week to pick Brighton players for fantasy managers, but with two games there’s always a possibility of them doing well.
Spurs play their second away game of the week and Brighton should be an easier prospect for them than United. They are ideally set up to play against a Brighton team who will come at them and they will see this as a game they can win. If they can take six points this week they will be right back in contention for a top four finish.
With the right choices this week fantasy managers can do very well with their Spurs players.
I think Spurs might just get the better of a very tight game to take the three points.
Prediction: 1-2
Arsenal v Liverpool
8.15pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal play their second home game of the week and they don’t come much tougher than against Liverpool. They have a very bad record against Liverpool in recent seasons and they will hope to turn that around in this game. Anything they can get from this game would be an added bonus in their quest for a top four finish.
Arsenal are in very good form at the moment and if they can continue that form their players can do very well for fantasy managers this week.
Liverpool play their second away game of the week and they have the chance to get closer to City at the top of the table. If they win both games they will be three points at the most behind City and that is well within their capabilities. They have a very good record against Arsenal, but they will be pushed all the way in this game.
With two games this week the Liverpool players I mentioned already look like great choices for fantasy managers.
I think Arsenal will make a game of it, but the chances are Liverpool will win.
Prediction: 1-2
Thursday 17 March
Everton v Newcastle United
7.45pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool
Everton play their second home game of the week and they badly need to get something from those two games. They might have seen this as a favourable fixture a few weeks ago, but Newcastle are in great form at the moment. They have been in the top flight for a very long time and that position is looking particularly unsafe at the moment.
Despite having two games this week I still can’t see any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers.
Newcastle play their second away game of the week and a trip to Everton can’t be as difficult as their trip to Chelsea. They will fancy their chances in this game and they could even have the top half of the table in their sights.
Newcastle players look like very good choices for fantasy managers for the second week in a row.
This is a game Everton really need to win, but they will do well to get a point from it.
Prediction: 1-1
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
