Yet again Mohamed Salah performed well as my captain and he will keep the armband until he heads off on African Cup of Nations duty. Emmanuel Dennis proved his great value as per usual while Conor Gallagher came good again after a few blank weeks.
Tuesday December 14
Brentford v Manchester United
7.30pm GMT, Brentford Community Stadium, London
Brentford came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Watford at the weekend and that win was enough to move them back into the top half of the table. They have won their last two home games after only taking one point in the previous five. They have taken eight points from their last five games and they look the most likely of the promoted teams to stay up.
If Ivan Toney is still unavailable due to Covid then Bryan Mbeumo could be the Brentford player of interest to fantasy managers.
United won 1-0 away to Norwich on Saturday and they’re still only one point off the top four. They have taken seven points from their last four away games with only three other teams taking more points on their travels. They have won their last three games and they’re in a run of games which could see them continue to climb the table.
Cristiano Ronaldo is looking like he could be a good choice again for fantasy managers while Bruno Fernandes surely has to find some form again soon.
I think Brentford will give United a real run for their money, but United will win by a single goal.
Prediction: 1-2
Norwich City v Aston Villa
7.45pm GMT, Carrow Road, Norwich
Norwich lost 1-0 at home to United last time out and they’re still at the foot of the table on goal difference. No other team has taken less points or scored less goals on their own patch. They haven’t won in four games and they haven’t scored in two with no other team scoring less goals and only Newcastle conceding more.
As I’ve said many times before I can’t see any Norwich players doing enough to impress fantasy managers.
Villa lost 1-0 away to Liverpool on Saturday, but they’re still only one point off the top half of the table. They have lost four of their last five away games with no other team losing more games on the road. They have won three of their last five games and lost the other two to the top two and they play two of the bottom three in their next two games.
With a reasonably good run of games coming up both John McGinn and Ollie Watkins might be ones to watch for fantasy managers.
I think Villa will continue their improvement by winning this game by a couple of goals.
Prediction: 0-2
Manchester City v Leeds United
8pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester
City won 1-0 at home to 10 man Wolves in their last game to stay one point clear at the top of the table. They have won their last three home games with no other team taking more points or conceding less goals on their own ground. They have won their last six games and they kept clean sheets in three of them with no other team conceding less goals.
Bernardo Silva is the City player to have at the moment for fantasy managers with all of their defenders and keeper good choices too.
Leeds conceded a very late penalty to lose 3-2 away to Chelsea at the weekend, but they’re still five points clear of the relegation zone. They have only taken one point from their last three away games and they play three of the top four in their next three away games. They have only won once in their last six games and only four other teams have conceded more goals.
Raphinha continues to impress for fantasy managers, but Patrick Bamford is injured again.
I think City should be too strong for Leeds and should win comfortably.
Prediction: 3-0
Wednesday December 15
Brighton And Hove Albion v Wolverhampton Wanderers
7.30pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Brighton didn’t play at the weekend due to the Covid situation at Spurs and that saw them drop into the bottom half of the table. They haven’t won in their last four home games, but they drew three of them with only four other teams taking less points at home. They haven’t won in 10 games, but they drew eight of them with no other team drawing more games.
Neal Maupay has scored in his last two games and he could be the Brighton player to have for fantasy managers.
Wolves lost 1-0 away to City on Saturday after going down to 10 men and they have now dropped to ninth in the table. They haven’t won in their last four away games and they haven’t scored in their last three, but only two other teams have conceded less goals on the road. They haven’t won in four games and they failed to score in all of those games with Norwich scoring less goals.
I can’t see any Wolves players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
This is a tough game to call, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.
Prediction: 1-1
Burnley v Watford
7.30pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley
Burnley drew 0-0 at home to West Ham on Sunday, but they’re still in the bottom three. They are unbeaten in four home games, but they drew three of them with only Southampton drawing more home games. They haven’t won in five games, but they drew four of them and no other team has drawn more games.
With Maxwel Cornet possibly missing it’s hard to see any Burnley players of interest to fantasy managers at the moment.
Watford lost 2-1 away to Brentford on Friday after leading 1-0 and they’re now only two points above the bottom three. They have lost their last three away games and no other team has lost more games on the road, but they have scored more away goals than any other team in the bottom half of the table. They have lost their last four games and they conceded 11 goals in those games with no other team losing more games.
Emmanuel Dennis is the Watford player to have for fantasy managers and he’s still available at a very good price.
I think Watford might just have enough to edge a very close game.
Prediction: 1-2
Crystal Palace v Southampton
7.30pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London
Palace won 3-1 at home to Everton on Sunday and they’re now only one point off the top half of the table. They have only lost one home game, but they drew four of them with only Southampton drawing more games at home. They had lost three games in a row before beating Everton, but no other team in the bottom half of the table has scored more goals.
Conor Gallagher is the Palace player to have for fantasy managers and they have a good run of games coming up.
Southampton lost 3-0 away to Arsenal on Saturday and they’re now only two places and five points above the relegation zone. They lost their last three away games and they conceded nine goals in those games with only two other teams taking less points on the road. They haven’t won in five games and they conceded 12 goals in those games.
I’m not sure there are any Southampton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Palace will make it back to back wins with a narrow victory in this game.
Prediction: 2-1
Arsenal v West Ham United
8pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal won 3-0 at home to Southampton in their last game and they’re now only two points off the top four. They have taken 19 points from their last seven home games with no other team taking more points at home. They have lost three of their last five games and they have still conceded more goals than they have scored despite being in sixth place.
Martin Odegaard has been in very good form for fantasy managers recently while Aaron Ramsdale, Gabriel Magalhaes, Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka are all looking good too.
West Ham drew 0-0 away to Burnley on Sunday and that point was enough to keep them in the top four. They have only taken one point and scored one goal in their last three away games, but only the top three have taken more points away from home. They have only won once in their last five games, but only the top three have scored more goals.
Jarrod Bowen still looks like the West Ham player to have for fantasy managers and they have a good run of games coming up.
I think this will be a very close game which could go either way, but Arsenal might just take the three points.
Prediction: 2-1
Thursday December 16
Leicester City v Tottenham Hotspur
7.30pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester
Leicester strolled to a 4-0 win at home to Newcastle at the weekend and that win was enough to move them back into the top half of the table. They have won their last two home games and they scored eight goals in those games with only four other teams scoring more goals at home. They have taken seven points from their last four games and they scored 11 goals in those games with only the top four scoring more goals.
James Maddison, Youri Tielemans and Harvey Barnes are the Leicester players impressing for fantasy managers at the moment.
Spurs didn’t play yet again at the weekend and this time it was due to an outbreak of Covid in their squad, but they’re still only three points off the top four and they now have two games in hand. They have only won once in their last five away games with only Norwich scoring less goals away from home. They have taken 10 points from their last four games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games.
If this game goes ahead then Heung-Min Son is the Spurs player to have for fantasy managers while their defenders and keeper are looking good too.
I think this will be a very close game as long as it takes place and it will probably end all square.
Prediction: 1-1
Chelsea v Everton
7.45pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London
Chelsea left it very late at home to Leeds on Saturday, but a last minute penalty gave them a 3-2 win to stay two points behind City in third place. They have taken 11 points from their last five home games and they scored 15 goals in those games with no other team scoring more goals at home. They have won seven of their last 10 games with no other team scoring more goals and only City conceding less.
Despite their recent slips Chelsea’s defenders still look like good options for fantasy managers and Mason Mount seems to be back in favour too.
Everton lost 3-1 away to Palace on Sunday, but they’re still only two points off the top half of the table. They have lost their last four away games, but their next three away games after this one are against the bottom three. They have only taken five points from their last 10 games with only three other teams conceding more goals.
I’m not sure there are any Everton players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Chelsea victory in this game.
Prediction: 3-0
Liverpool v Newcastle United
8pm GMT, Anfield, Liverpool
Liverpool won 1-0 at home to Villa at the weekend to stay one point behind Chelsea at the top of the table. They are the only team still unbeaten at home with only Chelsea scoring more home goals and only City conceding less. They have won their last five games and they scored 14 goals in those games while only conceding one with no other team scoring more goals.
As always Mohamed Salah is an absolute must have for fantasy managers while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota are great choices too along with all of Liverpool’s defenders and their keeper.
Newcastle lost 4-0 away to Leicester on Sunday and they’re still only off the foot of the table on goal difference. They’re one of two teams without a win away from home with only Norwich scoring less and conceding more goals on their travels. They have only won once in 16 games, but they drew seven of those games with no other team conceding more goals.
Callum Wilson is the Newcastle player of most interest to fantasy managers, but maybe not over their next three games.
I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Liverpool victory in this game.
Prediction: 4-0
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
