Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 20

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I didn’t do too well with my weekend predictions with only two correct and five incorrect, but I managed to stay in fourth place in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

With no game for Mohamed Salah I used my first free hit this week and opted for Heung-Min Son as my captain and he didn’t disappoint. It gets a little trickier this week as I have to revert to my original squad and I have six players out due to the two cancelled games. I should be able to patch a team together though and I think using the free hit paid off as I climbed the rankings to a season high position just outside the top 20,000.

Tuesday 28 December

Crystal Palace v Norwich City

3pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London

Palace lost 3-0 away to Spurs on Sunday, but they’re still only two points off the top half of the table. They have only lost one of their nine home games with only five other teams taking more points at home and no other team drawing more games on their own ground. They have only won once in their last seven games, but no other team in the bottom half of the table has scored more goals.

Conor Gallagher is probably the Palace player most likely to do well for fantasy managers in this game.

Norwich lost 5-0 at home to Arsenal on Sunday to leave them rooted to the foot of the table one point behind Newcastle. They lost their last away game to Spurs after taking four points from their previous two away games, but only two other teams have taken less points on the road. They have lost their last four games without scoring and they conceded 11 goals in those games with only Newcastle conceding more goals.

I still can’t see any Norwich players to recommend to fantasy managers.

I think Palace will get a much needed win in this game with a few goals to spare.

Prediction: 2-0

Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur

3pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton won 3-2 away to West Ham on Sunday to move themselves nine points clear of the relegation zone and within two points of the top half of the table. They have taken 9 points from their last five home games and no other team has drawn more games at home. The win against West Ham was their first win in seven games and no other team has drawn more games.

Armando Broja is looking pretty good for fantasy managers at the moment while James Ward-Prowse is always worth considering too.

Spurs won 3-0 at home to Palace on Sunday to move up to fifth place and they have games in hand on all of the teams above them. They have only won once in their last five away games and they failed to score in their last two with only Norwich scoring less goals away from home. They have taken 13 points from their last five games, but all of those games were at home and they have kept four clean sheets in their last six games.

Heung-Min Son is the Spurs player to have for fantasy managers and it looks like Harry Kane might just be on the way back too.

I think will be a close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the spoils shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Watford v West Ham United

3pm GMT, Vicarage Road, Watford

Watford didn’t play on Sunday to make it three games in a row they have missed, but they’re still two points above the bottom three. They have lost four of their last five home games and they conceded 12 goals in those games with only two other teams conceding more goals at home. They have lost their last four games and they conceded 11 goals in those games while they’re the only team without a clean sheet so far.

If this game goes ahead Emmanuel Dennis is the Watford player who can make a difference for fantasy managers.

West Ham lost 3-2 at home to Southampton on Sunday to drop to sixth place and they’re quickly losing ground on the top four. They have only taken one point from their last four away games and they only scored one goal in those games, but only the top three have taken more points away from home. They have only won once in their last seven games and they failed to score in three of those games, but they only play one of the big six in their next eight games.

West Ham players aren’t doing an awful lot for fantasy managers at the moment, but they have a good run of games coming up which could see Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Michail Antonio do well.

I think this will be another very close game with West Ham probably winning by a single goal.

Prediction: 1-2

Leicester City v Liverpool

8pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester lost 6-3 away to City on Sunday, but they still managed to stay in the top half of the table. They have won their last two home games and they scored eight goals in those games. They have only won two of their last eight games and they conceded 18 goals in those games, but they also scored 15 goals.

James Maddison is the Leicester player to have for fantasy managers at the moment.

Liverpool had their game called off on Sunday which saw them fall six points behind City at the top of the table, but they do have a game in hand. They have only won two of their last four away games with only Chelsea and City taking more points on their travels and no other team scoring more away goals. The draw against Spurs was the first time in seven games they dropped points and no other team has scored more goals with only City and Chelsea conceding less.

Mohamed Salah is an absolute must have for fantasy managers in this game while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane are great choices too.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Liverpool victory in this game.

Prediction: 1-3

Wednesday 29 December

Chelsea v Brighton And Hove Albion

7.30pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea came from behind to win 3-1 away to Villa on Sunday to stay six points behind City at the top of the table. They have only won once in their last four home games with only Liverpool scoring more goals at home. They have only won four of their last nine games and they play Liverpool and City in their next two games after this one.

With Romelu Lukaku back he looks like a good choice for fantasy managers along with Mason Mount and all of Chelsea’s defenders and keeper.

Brighton won 2-0 at home to Brentford on Sunday and that win was enough to move them back into the top half of the table. They haven’t won in their last six away games with no other team drawing more games away from home. The win against Brentford was their first win in 12 games, but they drew eight of those games with no other team drawing more games.

I’m still not sure there are any Brighton players doing enough to interest fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Brighton will make a game of it, but Chelsea should take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Brentford v Manchester City

8.15pm GMT, Brentford Community Stadium, Brentford

Brentford lost 2-0 away to Brighton on Sunday night, but they’re still an awful lot closer to the top half of the table than they are to the bottom three. They have won their last two home games, but they will do very well to get anything from this game. They have only won two of their last 10 games and they have a very tough run of games coming up.

I can’t see any Brentford players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

City won 6-3 at home to Leicester on Sunday to extend their lead at the top of the table to six points. They have won their last five away games and they scored 15 goals in those games with no other team conceding less goals on the road. They have won their last nine games and they scored 30 goals in those games with no other team scoring more or conceding less goals.

There are so many options for fantasy managers in the City team with Kevin de Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and all of their defenders and keeper worth having.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable City win in this game.

Prediction: 0-3

Thursday 30 December

Everton v Newcastle United

7.30pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton didn’t play at the weekend and they’re only three points off the top half of the table despite their recent poor run. They won their last home game against Arsenal, but that was their first home win in five games and they have a good run of games coming up. They have only won once in their last 11 games, but they don’t play any team from the top half of the table in their next seven games.

I think Demari Gray is probably the Everton player most likely to get some points for fantasy managers in this game.

Newcastle led against United on Monday night, but they had to settle for a 1-1 draw which leaves them one point above Norwich at the foot of the table. They’re one of two teams without a win away from home and only two other teams have scored less goals on their travels. They have only taken one point from their last four games and they conceded 12 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals.

Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin are both capable of doing well for fantasy managers in this game as long as they’re fit to play.

I think Everton will get a much needed win in this game.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester United v Burnley

8.15pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester

United came from behind to get a 1-1 draw away to struggling Newcastle on Monday night to leave them in seventh place, but they have games in hand on most of the teams above them. They have won their last two home games after failing to win the previous four, but they have a good run of home games coming up. They have taken 11 points from their last five games, but Leicester are the only team in the top half of the table to have conceded more goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the United player to have for fantasy managers while Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford aren’t bad options either.

Burnley were yet another team not to play at the weekend and they’re still in the bottom three with two points to make up if they’re going to get out of the relegation zone. They’re one of the two teams without an away win, but they have drawn four of their eight games on the road and only two other teams have scored less away goals. They haven’t won in five games, but they drew four of those games and they haven’t scored in three games with only two other teams scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Burnley players to recommend to fantasy managers in this game.

I think United will take another three points in this game with a few goals to spare.

Prediction: 2-0

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
