I’ve done pretty well with my fantasy team so far this season with some very good choices from the outset and I got my captain choice just right in two of the three Gameweeks. I’ve done pretty well with my cut price picks too and I couldn’t wish to be doing much better at this stage of the season.
There are some big choices to make this week with Cristiano Ronaldo returning to United and a lot of fantasy managers have decided to use their wildcard to get him into their team. He looks like a very good choice for captain this week along with Mohamed Salah and possibly Harry Kane or Michail Antonio too. The cut price choices are getting a little more difficult to find at this stage, but Shane Duffy and Demarai Gray are both worth considering.
Saturday September 11
Crystal Palace v Tottenham Hotspur
12.30pm Selhurst Park, London
Palace got their first goals of the season when they came from behind twice to get a 2-2 draw away to West Ham last week. They only won six home games last season and only four other teams scored less goals at home. Only Southampton and West Brom conceded more goals last season and they could be in line to concede a fair amount over the next few games.
Palace have a tough run of games at the moment and it’s not easy to see any of their players who might do well for fantasy managers.
Spurs won 1-0 at home to Watford last week to go top of the table with three 1-0 wins in their first three games. They only won eight away games last season, but they have a good run of away games on the horizon. Only the top two scored more goals last season and with Harry Kane staying put they look capable of scoring quite a few goals this season as well.
Kane is still the best of the Spurs players for fantasy managers while Heung-Min Son is very good too and their defenders and keeper are good options.
I think Spurs will continue their winning ways with another narrow victory in this game.
Prediction: 1-0
Arsenal v Norwich City
3pm BST, Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal lost 5-0 away to City last week and they’re on the foot of the table with the worst ever start to a Premier League season by any team after three games. They only won eight home games last season and no other team in the top half of the table scored less goals at home. Only City and Chelsea conceded less goals last season, but their start to the season suggests they won’t match that statistic this season.
It’s not easy to see which Arsenal players might make an impression for fantasy managers at the moment, but that should probably change over the next few weeks.
Norwich lost 2-1 at home to Leicester last week and they’re only ahead of Arsenal in the table because they have managed to score a goal. They won 15 away games in the Championship last season with only Watford conceding less goals away from home and only Brentford scoring more. No other team has conceded more goals so far and they will go to the foot of the table if they lose this game.
Teemu Pukki is the Norwich player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers and they have a fairly good run of games coming up.
I think Arsenal will get their first points and goals of the season by winning this game.
Prediction: 3-1
Brentford v Brighton And Hove Albion
3pm BST, Brentford Community Stadium, London
Brentford drew 1-1 away to Villa last week and they’re still unbeaten three games into the season. Only two other teams scored more goals at home in the Championship last season and they have already won at home to Arsenal. They scored more goals than any other team in the Championship last season and they have kept two clean sheets already this season.
Brentford’s defenders and keeper have done well so far for fantasy managers and Ivan Toney might just be an option too.
Brighton lost 2-0 at home to Everton last week to put an end to their winning start to the season. No other team drew more home games last season and they conceded as many goals as they scored on their own patch. Only the bottom three won less games last season, but they drew more games than any other team.
Brighton’s defenders and keeper look like they could be good choices for fantasy managers while Neal Maupay is worth considering too.
I think this will be a very close game, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Brighton take the three points.
Prediction: 1-2
Leicester City v Manchester City
3pm BST, King Power Stadium, Leicester
Leicester won 2-1 away to Norwich last week and they have won two of their first three games, but they haven’t been convincing in those games. They lost as many home games as they won last season and no other team in the top half of the table conceded more goals at home. Only the top two scored more goals last season, but Leeds were the only team in the top half of the table to concede more goals.
Jamie Vardy is the Leicester player in form for fantasy managers at the moment while their defenders and keeper are good choices too, but maybe not in this game.
City won 5-0 at home to Arsenal last week for their second 5-0 win in a row, but this game will be a bigger test for them. No other team scored more or conceded less goals away from home last season, but they did lose their opening away game against Spurs. They scored more and conceded less goals than any other team last season and they are already the leading scorers this season.
It’s so difficult to be sure which City players will play from week to week, but those in form at the moment are Ferran Torres, Gabriel Jesus, Jack Grealish, Ruben Diaz, Aymeric Laporte and Ederson.
I think City will make it three wins in a row with a couple of goals to spare in this game.
Prediction: 0-2
Manchester United v Newcastle United
3pm BST, Old Trafford, Manchester
United got a fairly fortunate 1-0 win away to Wolves last time out to keep themselves within two points of the table toppers. They won less than half of their home games last season, but only City scored more goals on their own ground. No other team lost less games last season, but only Brighton and Fulham drew more and only City scored more goals.
With Ronaldo back at United he’s almost a must have for fantasy managers which leaves Bruno Fernandes in limbo and the likes of Mason Greenwood open to rotation too.
Newcastle drew 2-2 at home to Southampton in their last game to take their first point of the season. They only won six home games last season and they have already conceded six goals in their first two home games this season. If they can’t sort their defence out it could be a long hard season for them.
Callum Wilson is the Newcastle player to have for fantasy managers as long as he’s fit to play.
I can’t see anything other than a comprehensive United victory in this game.
Prediction: 4-1
Southampton v West Ham United
3pm BST, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton
Southampton drew 2-2 away to Newcastle last week and they have drawn two of their first three games. They are one of the few teams who had a better home record than their away record last season. Only West Brom conceded more goals last season and the travel to City and Chelsea in their next two away games.
James Ward-Prowse, Che Adams and Adam Armstrong are all fairly good choices for fantasy managers.
West Ham could only draw 2-2 at home to Palace last time out after leading twice and that result saw them drop to second in the table. They won nine away games last season and they scored four goals in their first away game this season. They have taken seven points from their first three games and no other team has scored more goals so far.
Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma have been in fantastic form for fantasy managers while Pablo Fornals and Aaron Cresswell have done very well too.
I think West Ham’s impressive start to the season will continue with three points in this game.
Prediction: 1-3
Watford v Wolverhampton Wanderers
3pm BST, Vicarage Road, Watford
Watford lost 1-0 away to Spurs in their last game, but they have a good run of games starting with this one. No other team took more points, scored more or conceded less goals at home in the Championship last season. They had the best defensive record last season, but they haven’t looked so strong in defence so far this season.
Ismailia Sarr is probably the Watford player most likely to produce for fantasy managers while Emmanuel Dennis is a cut price option too.
Wolves lost 1-0 at home to United last time out to make it three 1-0 defeats from their first three games, but they have a good run of games coming up too. Only Sheffield United scored less goals on their travels last season and they are struggling to score goals again this season. Only four other teams scored less goals last season, but they have played well so far this season despite the three defeats.
If they can make the most of their upcoming good run of fixtures the Wolves keeper and defenders are all worth considering for fantasy managers.
I think this will be a close game with Wolves probably winning as long as they can put away some of the chances they keep missing at the moment.
Prediction: 1-2
Chelsea v Aston Villa
5.30pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London
Chelsea drew 1-1 away to Liverpool in their last game after playing for half of the game with 10 men and they’re only two points off the top of the table. They won less than half of their home games last season, but only City conceded less goals at home. Only City conceded less goals last season, but only two other teams in the top half of the table scored less goals.
Chelsea’s defenders and keeper are all very good options for fantasy managers while Romelu Lukaku and Mason Mount should be considered too.
Villa came from behind to get a 1-1 draw at home to Brentford in their last game to make it four points from their first three games. Villa won as many games away from home as Chelsea won at home last season, but they lost their opening away game to newly promoted Watford. Their next four games are far from easy and they will do very well to take any points from those four games.
With a very tough run of games coming up Villa players don’t look too good for fantasy managers at the moment, but Danny Ings could be the exception.
I think Chelsea’s impressive start to the season will continue with another three points in this game.
Prediction: 2-0
Sunday September 12
Leeds United v Liverpool
4.30pm BST, Elland Road, Leeds
Leeds drew 1-1 away to Burnley last week and they’re without a win in their first three games. Only three other teams lost less home games last season and only four other teams conceded less goals on their own patch. No other team in the top half of the table conceded more goals last season and they have conceded eight goals in their first three games this season.
Leeds have a very good run of games coming up after this one which should make Patrick Bamford and Raphinha good choices for fantasy managers.
Liverpool came from behind to get a 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea in their last game and like Chelsea they’re only two points off the top of the table. They won as many games away from home as they won at home last season with only City scoring more goals on the road. Only the two Manchester teams scored more goals last season and this is the first of three games in a row which they would expect to win.
Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota are the attacking players for fantasy managers to have in the Liverpool team while all of their defenders and keeper are good choices too with Trent Alexander-Arnold the best of them.
I think Liverpool will be just too good for Leeds and will win by a single goal.
Prediction: 1-2
Monday September 13
Everton v Burnley
8pm BST, Goodison Park, Liverpool
Everton won 2-0 away to Brighton in their last game and they’re only two points behind the leaders after a good start to the season. They only won six home games last season and they can do a lot better this season if they can match their usual home form. They have a good run of games coming up which could see them sitting high in the table in the next few weeks.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the best of the Everton players for fantasy managers with Demarai Gray in pretty good form too.
Burnley drew 1-1 at home to Leeds last time out to get their first point of the season. Only four other teams scored less goals away from home last season, but they did win more games away from home than at home. Only two other teams scored less goals last season and they need to improve on that record if they’re going to stay up again this season.
Chris Wood is probably the only Burnley player who can make an impact for fantasy managers and they have some good fixtures coming up.
Everton have started the season very well and that should continue with another three points in this game.
Prediction: 3-1
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
