Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Eight

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did quite well last week with one perfect prediction, five correct outcomes and four incorrect outcomes which moved me up to second in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how the top six in that league stands.

Friday November 6

Brighton And Hove Albion v Burnley

5.30pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton lost 2-1 away to Spurs last week and they’re now only two points above the relegation zone. They drew their last home game against West Brom and that’s their only point at home so far. They haven’t won in five games, but they have scored in all of their games with only West Brom and Liverpool conceding more goals.

Neal Maupay had been the Brighton player to have for fantasy managers, but he didn’t play last week which doesn’t auger well for the future.

Burnley lost 3-0 at home to Chelsea last week and that defeat was enough to send them to the foot of the table on goal difference. Their only point so far came in their last away game at West Brom with only Sheffield United scoring less goals on the road. They have only taken one point from their six games and no other team has scored less goals.

I can’t see any Burnley players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

This is a big game for two teams at the wrong end of the table and I think Brighton will take the three very valuable points.

Prediction: 2-1

Southampton v Newcastle United

8pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton won 4-3 away to Villa last week and that was enough to move them up to fifth place within three points of the top of the table. They have won their last two home games without conceding a goal and they will hope to continue that run in this game. They have taken 13 points and kept three clean sheets in their last five games after losing their first two games.

If he’s fit to play Danny Ings is the best of the Southampton players for fantasy managers while James Ward-Prowse, Che Adams and Jannik Vestergaard are all doing very well too.

Newcastle won 2-1 at home to high flying Everton last week and they’re only outside the top half of the table on goal difference. They’re unbeaten away from home, but they have drawn two of their three games with only Villa conceding less goals on the road. They have only failed to score in one of their seven games, but they have only kept one clean sheet too.

Callum Wilson is the only Newcastle player I can see of interest to fantasy managers at the moment.

I don’t think there will be too much between these two teams, but Southampton will probably win narrowly.

Prediction: 2-1

Saturday November 7

Everton v Manchester United

12.30pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton lost 2-1 away to Newcastle last week and their good start to the season seems to be fading fast. They’re unbeaten at home and no other team has scored more goals on their own patch. They lost their last two games and they haven’t kept a clean sheet since their opening game, but only four other teams have scored more goals.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the Everton player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers while James Rodriguez is a very good option too if he’s fit to play.

United lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal last week and they’re only three places above the bottom three, but they do have a game in hand on most of the other teams. They have won both of their away games with only Villa and Newcastle conceding less goals on the road. They have lost three of their games and only four other teams have conceded more goals.

Marcus Rashford is still the United player to have for fantasy managers while Bruno Fernandes has done quite well too.

I think this will be another very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 2-2

Crystal Palace v Leeds United

3pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London

Palace lost 2-0 away to Wolves last week, but they’re still closer to the league leaders than they are to the relegation zone. They have only taken one point in their last two home games and only three other teams have scored less goals at home. They have lost three of their last five games and only four other teams have scored less goals.

Wilfried Zaha has done very well for fantasy managers so far this season and he’s certainly worth considering.

Leeds lost 4-1 at home to Leicester last week and they’re only above Palace on goal difference. They have won their last two away games without conceding a goal and they only lost their opening away game 4-3 to Liverpool. They have only won once in their last four games, but they are by far the best of the three promoted teams.

Patrick Bamford is the Leeds player to have for fantasy managers while both Helder Costa and Mateusz Klich have done pretty well too.

This looks like yet another very close game and a draw is probably the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Chelsea v Sheffield United

5.30pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea won 3-0 away to Burnley last week and they’re now only one point off the top four. They have only won once in their three home games, but they have scored seven goals in their last two home games. They’re unbeaten in five games and they have scored 13 goals in those games while keeping three clean sheets.

Timo Werner is starting to show some good form for fantasy managers, but Chelsea’s defenders such as Kurt Zouma, Ben Chilwell and Reece James are the players to make the biggest impression so far.

United lost 1-0 at home to City last week and they’re only off the foot of the table on goal difference. They are the only team to have lost all of their away games and no other team has scored less goals on their travels. They have lost six of their seven games and they failed to score in four of those games with no other team scoring less goals.

I can’t see any United players to interest fantasy managers at the moment.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Chelsea victory in this game.

Prediction: 2-0

West Ham United v Fulham

8pm GMT, London Stadium, London

West Ham lost 2-1 away to Liverpool last week to put an end to a good run of results against some of the best teams. They have taken points against Wolves and City in their last two home games and no other team has conceded less goals at home. They were unbeaten for four games before losing to Liverpool and their fixtures are getting easier starting with this game.

With Michail Antonio injured it looks like Pablo Fornals is the West Ham player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers.

Fulham won 2-0 at home to West Brom last week for their first win of the season and it was enough to move them out of the bottom three. They drew their last away game at Sheffield United and it’s their only point away from home so far with a tough run of away games coming up. Only West Brom and Liverpool have conceded more goals and they have five very tough games in a row.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is the only Fulham player who might interest fantasy managers, but it’s probably a good idea to avoid them at the moment.

I think West Ham’s form suggests they should have more than enough to take the three points in this game.

Prediction: 3-1

Sunday November 8

West Bromwich Albion v Tottenham Hotspur

12pm GMT, The Hawthorns, Birmingham

West Brom lost 2-0 away to Fulham last week and that defeat saw them drop into the bottom three. They haven’t won at home yet and they failed to score in two of their three home games. No other team has drawn more games and they need to turn some of those draws into wins if they are going to have a chance of staying up.

I can’t see any West Brom players who might make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.

Spurs won 2-1 at home to Brighton last week to move up to third place with the leaders only two points ahead of them. They have won all of their away games with only Leicester scoring more away goals and only Villa and Newcastle conceding less. They have taken 14 points from their last six games since losing their opening game and no other team has scored more goals.

Both Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son are in great form for fantasy managers at the moment and at least one of them is a must have.

I can’t see anything other than a comprehensive Spurs win in this game.

Prediction: 1-3

Leicester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers

2pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester won 4-1 away to Leeds last week to move into second place with Liverpool only a point ahead of them. They have lost their last two home games without scoring and they need to improve their home form if they’re going to do well this season. They have won five of their seven games with only Spurs scoring more goals.

Jamie Vardy is still the Leicester player most likely to make an impression for fantasy managers while their defenders and keeper can do quite well too.

Wolves won 2-0 at home to Palace last week to move up to sixth place and they’re only three points off the top of the table. They have won two of their three away games and they kept clean sheets in both of those wins, but they have a tough run of away games coming up. They have taken 10 points from their last four games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games, but only four other teams have scored less goals.

Max Kilman is the cheap defender most fantasy managers are looking for while Rui Patricio, Raul Jiminez and Daniel Podence look like good options too.

I think is going to be another very close game with the points more than likely shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Manchester City v Liverpool

4.30pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City won 1-0 away to Sheffield United last week to move into the top half of the table and they still have a game in hand on most of the other teams. They have only played two home games so far and they have three very good home fixtures after this game. They’re unbeaten in four games, but they only scored four goals in those games while conceding only two.

Now that he’s returned from injury Kevin de Bruyne is the best of the City players for fantasy managers for the moment at least with Raheem Sterling worth considering too.

Liverpool won 2-1 at home to West Ham last week to move to the top of the table ahead of this very big game. They have only won once in their three away games with only West Brom conceding more goals on their travels. They have scored in all of their games, but they have only kept one clean sheet so far with only Spurs scoring more goals and only West Brom conceding more.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are the Liverpool players to have for fantasy managers.

This is a huge game between last season’s top two and it’s a tough one to call, but the chances are the spoils will be shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Arsenal v Aston Villa

7.15pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal won 1-0 away to United last week to move back into the top half of the table and they’re still only four points off the top of the table. They have won two of their three home games, but they have only scored four goals in those three games. They had lost two games in a row without scoring before beating United and they have only scored six goals in their last six games.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang still isn’t firing on all cylinders, but he’s the Arsenal player most likely to make a difference for fantasy managers.

Villa lost 4-3 at home to Southampton last week, but they’re still ahead of Arsenal on goal difference going into this game and they have played a game less than most of the other teams. They have won both of their away games without conceding a goal and no other team has conceded less goals on the road. They won their first four games, but they have lost their last two games and they conceded seven goals in those two defeats.

Despite their recent defeats Jack Grealish still looks like a very good option for fantasy managers while Ross Barkley could be a good choice too..

I think this will be yet another very close game with Arsenal more than likely emerging with all three points.

Prediction: 2-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
