Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Four

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I can’t ever remember doing so badly in over 10 years of predicting Premier League games with nine incorrect outcomes and only one correct outcome which saw me plummet down the table in my predictions league. It’s early days though and I’m hoping to start the comeback this week. Here’s a look at how the top six in my league stands.

Saturday October 3

 Chelsea v Crystal Palace

12.30pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 away to West Brom last week, but how they ended up 3-0 down is another matter. They lost five games at home last season and they lost their opening home game this season although that was against Liverpool. They conceded a lot of goals last season and their defence doesn’t look any better so far, but the transfer window hasn’t closed yet.

If Chelsea can get their act together players like Mason Mount, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz can do well for fantasy managers.

Palace lost 2-1 at home to Everton last week, but they won their first two games and they have a very good run of games after this one. Only three other teams scored less goals away from home last season, but they did win their opening away game against United. No other team scored less goals last season, but their goal return is better so far and they have a very good run of games coming up.

Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend have done very well so far for fantasy managers while Tyrick Mitchell is a good option at a very good price too.

I think Palace will give Chelsea a very tough game, but Chelsea will win by the odd goal.

Prediction: 2-1

Everton v Brighton And Hove Albion

3pm BST, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton won 2-1 away to Palace last week to make it three wins from their first three games. They only lost four home games last season, but their next two home games are against Liverpool and United. Only Leicester and Liverpool have scored more goals so far and only Villa have conceded less, but I’m still not sure about their defence.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are the Everton players to have for fantasy managers while James Rodriguez and Lucas Digne are pretty good options too.

Brighton hit the post five times as well as conceding a last minute penalty in losing 3-2 at home to United last week. They only won four away games last season, but their away form was a lot better in the second half of the season and they have already won away to Newcastle this season. They have had a tough start to the season and that continues in this game, but they pose a real attacking threat no matter who the opponent might be.

Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard are both looking good for fantasy managers right now while Tariq Lamptey is available at a good price and doing quite well too.

Despite Everton’s great start to the season I think Brighton could just be able to get a point from this game.

Prediction: 1-1

Leeds United v Manchester City

5.30pm BST, Elland Road, Leeds

Leeds left it late, but their 1-0 win away to Sheffield United last week was enough to move them up to seventh place. No other team took more points or conceded less goals at home in the Championship last season, but City are no Championship team despite last week’s performance. After playing both of last season’s top two in their first four games things should get a little easier for them.

Patrick Bamford has done really well for fantasy managers so far with Helder Costa and Mateusz Klich doing pretty well too.

City crashed to a 5-2 defeat at home to West Brom last week and they looked a long way from a team capable of keeping pace with Liverpool. Only Liverpool took more points on the road last season and no other team scored more goals on their travels. They have a hard run of games for the next few weeks and they will need to win almost all of them if they’re going to get any closer to Liverpool this season.

Despite last week’s defeat Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling are still very good options for fantasy managers with Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez worth considering too.

I think City will bounce back to win this game, but Leeds won’t make it easy for them.

Prediction: 2-4

Newcastle United v Burnley

8pm BST, St. James’ Park, Newcastle

Newcastle got a very controversial last minute penalty to draw 1-1 away to Spurs last week. They only lost five home games last season, but only two other teams scored less goals on their own ground. They have a tough game next week, but otherwise they are on a run of games where they will hope to do quite well.

Callum Wilson is worth considering for fantasy managers and Karl Darlow has done well during Martin Dubravka’s absence.

Burnley lost 1-0 at home to Southampton last week to make it two defeats in their first two games. They won as many games as they lost away from home last season and they will do well to match that record on the road this season. They need to get some points in this game or their next one before they go into a very tricky run of games.

Chris Wood is the Burnley player most likely to perform for fantasy managers and Dwight McNeill could be worth a shout too.

I think this will be a very close game with a draw the most likely result.

Prediction: 1-1

Sunday October 4

Leicester City v West Ham United

12pm BST, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester came from behind to win 5-2 away to City last week and that win was enough to move them to the top of the table on goal difference. Only three other teams took more points at home last season and they have a very good run of home games starting with this one. They have won their first three games and they scored 12 goals in the process and they will expect to win their next two games too.

Jamie Vardy is in great form for fantasy managers at the moment with Harvey Barnes and Timothy Castagne doing very well too.

West Ham won 4-0 at home to Wolves last week in yet another surprise result in a week full of surprises. They only won four away games last season and they have three very difficult away games in a row starting with this one. The win against Wolves couldn’t have come at a better time as their chances of getting anything from their next four games are slim.

Jarrod Bowen did very well for fantasy managers last week while Michail Antonio is still the West Ham player most likely to perform for fantasy managers.

I think Leicester will continue their perfect start to the season by winning this game by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 3-1

Southampton v West Bromwich Albion

12pm BST, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton got their first points of the season when they won 1-0 away to Burnley last week. Only Norwich took less points and conceded more goals at home last season and they already conceded five goals in their first home game. A home game against the team who have conceded the most goals so far should give them the chance to make it back to back wins.

Danny Ings is impossible to ignore for fantasy managers as he continues to score week after week.

West Brom led 3-0 at home to Chelsea last week, but they had to settle for a point in the end which was enough to take them off the foot of the table. No other team took more points away from home in the Championship last season, but they already conceded five goals in their first away game this season. They conceded 11 goals in their first three games, but they have a chance in their next four games of showing they can possibly make a go of staying in the Premier League.

Matheus Pereira is the West Brom player to have for fantasy managers and Grady Diangana could do well too.

I think West Brom have a chance in this game because of Southampton’s home record, but Southampton should just shade it.

Prediction: 2-1

Arsenal v Sheffield United

2pm BST, Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal lost 3-1 away to Liverpool last week and they need something from this game with three very tough games in a row after it. They only lost three games at home last season and only three other teams scored more goals on their own patch. No other team drew more games last season and they need to turn some of those draws into wins this season if they’re going to improve on the eighth place finish.

Alexandre Lacazette has started the season very well for fantasy managers while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still the Arsenal player to have.

United lost 1-0 at home to Leeds last week and they’re only one place above Fulham at the bottom of the table. No other team drew more games away from home last season, but only two other teams scored less goals on their travels. They’re one of three teams without a point so far and they’re the only team who haven’t scored a goal.

I can’t see any United players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

I think Arsenal should be good enough at home to win this game by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 2-0

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Fulham

2pm BST, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton

Wolves lost 4-0 away to West Ham last week, but they couldn’t ask for a better game to try to bounce back. Only Newcastle drew more games at home last season and they will want to turn more of those draws into wins this season. They have a good run of games starting with this one although that could have been said of their game last week before they were so well beaten.

Raul Jiminez is the Wolves player to have for fantasy managers despite his own goal last week while Daniel Podence (if he’s fit) and Romain Saiss are worth considering too.

Fulham lost 3-0 at home to Villa last week to drop to the foot of the table. They only won eight away games in the Championship last season and they struggled for goals away from home too. They lost their first three games and they conceded 10 goals in the process with only West Brom conceding more goals.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is the only Fulham player for fantasy managers to consider.

I think Wolves should put last week’s disappointment behind them by winning this game by a few goals.

Prediction: 3-0

Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur

4.30pm BST, Old Trafford, Manchester

United won 3-2 away to Brighton last week in a game where they rode their luck time after time. Only the top two scored more home goals last season and only Liverpool lost less games at home, but they have already lost their first home game of this season. They have been far from impressive in their first two games and they will need to improve if they’re going to get anything from this game.

Bruno Fernandes is the best of the United players for fantasy managers while Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood are good options too.

Spurs were pegged back by a last minute penalty at home to Newcastle last week as their hectic schedule continued. They only won four away games last season, but they scored five goals in their first away game this season. They have had a very hectic start to the season and that could well catch up with them in this game.

Harry Kane is the Spurs player fantasy managers are resting their hopes on with Heung-min Son injured.

I think United will get the better of Spurs with home advantage a key factor against a team playing so many games

Prediction: 3-1

Aston Villa v Liverpool

7.15pm BST, Villa Park, Birmingham

Villa won 3-0 away to Fulham last week to move up to fourth place despite having played a game less than every other team in the top half of the table. They took 24 of their 35 points at home last season, but they will have their work cut out to get anything from this game. They’re the only team not to have conceded a goal so far, but the chances are that will change in this game.

Jack Grealish is still the Villa player to watch for fantasy managers with Emiliano Martinez doing well too.

Liverpool won 3-1 at home to Arsenal last week and they’re only behind Leicester at the top of the table on goal difference with three wins from three games. No other team took more points or conceded less goals on their travels last season and they have already won their first away game at Chelsea. They had 18 points to spare at the top of the table last season and they have already won their first three games this season with only Leicester scoring more goals so far.

Sadio Mane is in very good form for fantasy managers at the moment while Mohamed Salah and all of their defenders and keeper are good choices too.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Liverpool win in this game.

Prediction: 1-3

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
