Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 28

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did reasonably well last week with six correct outcomes and four incorrect outcomes, but I lost ground in my predictions league with others doing better than me. Here’s a look at how the top five in that league stands.

Friday February 28

Norwich City v Leicester City

8pm GMT, Carrow Road, Norwich

Norwich lost 3-0 away to Wolves last week and they’re rooted to the foot of the table, seven points from safety with only 11 games to play. They have only won once in their last 10 home games with no other team taking less points at home and only Southampton conceding more goals. They have only won once in their last 14 games and they haven’t scored in their last three with no other team scoring less goals and only Villa conceding more.

I can’t see any Norwich players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Leicester lost 1-0 at home to City last week and they’re now seven points behind them in third place. Only the top two have taken more points away from home and only Liverpool have conceded less goals on their travels. They have only won once in their last six games, but only Liverpool and Sheffield United have conceded less goals and they have a very good run of games coming up.

None of the Leicester players have done much recently for fantasy managers, but that could change for players like Jamie Vardy and James Maddison in the next few weeks.

I think Norwich will make a game of it, but Leicester will get back to winning ways.

Prediction: 1-2

Saturday February 29

Brighton And Hove Albion v Crystal Palace

12.30pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton

Brighton came from behind to get a 1-1 draw at Sheffield United last week and that point moved them four points clear of the bottom three. They haven’t lost in their last four home games, but they drew three of them and no other team has drawn more home games. They haven’t won in seven games, but they drew five of those games with only Arsenal and Wolves drawing more games.

I can’t see any Brighton players who might make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment and they have a tough run of games coming up.

Palace got a much needed 1-0 win at home to Newcastle last week to give themselves plenty of breathing space at the wrong end of the table. They haven’t won in their last six away games, but they drew four of those games and they have scored more goals on their travels than they have at home. The win against Newcastle was their first win in eight games and their first clean sheet in 11 games with no other team scoring less goals.

Palace players haven’t done too much for fantasy managers recently, but their defenders and keeper did well last week and could do so again for the next few weeks.

I think this most strange of derbies will be a close affair with the spoils most likely shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Bournemouth v Chelsea

3pm GMT, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth

Bournemouth lost 3-0 away to Burnley and VAR last week, but they’re still two points above the relegation zone. They won their last two home games after failing to win the previous five, but only three other teams have scored less goals at home. They have lost seven of their last 10 games and they failed to score in five of those games.

Harry Wilson has done quite well for fantasy managers recently, but I’m not sure it’s such a good thing to opt for Bournemouth players.

Chelsea put their recent woes behind them to win 2-0 at home to Spurs last week to stay in fourth place and move three points ahead of the fifth placed team. They haven’t won in their last three away games, but only the top two have taken more points away from home and only City and Leicester have scored more away goals. They have only won five of their last 15 games and they lost seven of those games, but they have a favourable run of games coming up.

Chelsea players haven’t exactly set the world alight for fantasy managers recently and it’s difficult to see which ones might do so.

I think Chelsea will have just too much for Bournemouth and should win by the odd goal.

Prediction: 1-2

Newcastle United v Burnley

3pm GMT, St. James’s Park, Newcastle

Newcastle lost 1-0 away to Palace last week, but they still have seven points to spare over the bottom three. They have only lost two of their last 12 home games and they kept clean sheets in three of their last five with only Liverpool conceding less goals at home and only Palace scoring less. They have only won once in their last nine games and they haven’t scored in their last three with no other team scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Newcastle players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

Burnley won 3-0 at home to Bournemouth last week to move into the top half of the table and within four points of fifth place. They have won four of their last seven away games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games. They have taken 13 points from their last five games and they kept three clean sheets in those games with only Liverpool keeping more clean sheets.

I suggested Dwight McNeil might be a good choice for fantasy managers last week and he didn’t disappoint while Nick Pope isn’t a bad option either.

I think Burnley will continue to climb the table by taking the three points in a close game.

Prediction: 0-1

West Ham United v Southampton

3pm GMT, London Stadium, London

West Ham put up a good fight at Liverpool last week, but they lost 3-2 to remain in the relegation zone. They have only won once in their last 10 home games and no other team has taken less points at home. They have only taken two points from their last seven games and they failed to score in three of them with only Villa and Norwich conceding more goals.

I don’t think there are any West Ham players who might be of interest to fantasy managers at the moment.

Southampton got a rare home win last week when they beat Villa 1-0 to move 10 points clear of the relegation zone and within three points of the top half of the table. They lost their last away game to Liverpool, but they had won four in a row before that and only four other teams have taken more points on the road. They have taken 19 points from their last 10 games, but only Villa and Norwich have conceded more goals.

Danny Ings is a very good option for fantasy managers while James Ward-Prowse and Stuart Armstrong aren’t the worst choices either.

I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Watford v Liverpool

5.30pm GMT, Vicarage Road, Watford

Watford lost 3-0 away to United last week and they’re still in the bottom three, but they’re only one point off the relative safety of seventeenth place. They lost their last home game against Everton, but they were unbeaten in five home games before that and kept clean sheets in four of them. They have only taken two points from their last five games which has undone much of the good work from the revival under Nigel Pearson and no other team has scored less goals.

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Troy Deeney are the Watford players who might make a difference for fantasy managers, but maybe not in this game.

Liverpool came from behind to win 3-2 at home to West Ham last week and maintain their 22 point lead at the top of the table. They have won all of their away games with the exception of a draw at United and they have only conceded one goal in their last six away games. It looks like they will break so many records this season and it’s just a matter of time until they win the league.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are still the must have Liverpool players for fantasy managers along with all of their defenders and keeper.

I can’t see anything other than yet another Liverpool win in this game.

Prediction: 1-3

Sunday March 1

Everton v Manchester United

2pm GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool

Everton lost 3-2 away to Arsenal last week after taking an early lead to drop into the bottom half of the table, but they’re only five points off fifth place. They have taken 14 points from their last six home games and they kept clean sheets in three of those games. The defeat at Arsenal was only their second defeat in 12 games, but they have a very tough run of games coming up.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are the Everton players making waves for fantasy managers at the moment.

United won 3-0 at home to Watford last week to move into fifth place and they’re only three points behind fourth placed Chelsea. They have won three of their last six away games, but they only won once in the previous seven. They have won four and lost three of their last eight games and they kept clean sheets in five of those games, but they failed to score in four.

United’s defenders and keeper have done well in recent weeks and they’re certainly worth considering along with new boy Bruno Fernandes.

I think Everton will make a real game of this and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them take the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Tottenham Hotspur v Wolverhampton Wanderers

2pm GMT, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Spurs lost 2-0 away to Chelsea last week to drop back to sixth place, but they’re only a point behind fifth placed United. They have won five of their last seven home games with only the top three taking more points at home and only Liverpool conceding less goals. They have won three of their last four games and have a good run of games coming up too.

With their best two players injured it’s not easy to see which Spurs players will step up and make an impression for fantasy managers.

Wolves won 3-0 at home to Norwich last week to move into eighth place and they’re only a point behind Spurs going into this game. They have only lost three of their 13 away games, but they have drawn six of them. They had only won once in seven games before last week’s win, but their next four games are against teams at the wrong end of the table.

Raul Jiminez and Matt Doherty continue to impress for fantasy managers while Diogo Jota has come strong recently.

I think this will be a very close game and the chances are the points will be shared.

Prediction: 1-1

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
