Predictions For Premier League Gameweek 27

It’s that time of the week again when I attempt to predict the outcomes of the upcoming Premier League games. I did quite well last week with seven correct outcomes and three incorrect outcomes, but it wasn’t enough to catch the top five in my predictions league. Here’s a look at how that top five stands.

POSITIONPLAYER NAMETHIS WEEKPOINTS
 1 (1) GoonerLaw 1680
 2 (2) Mystical  1350
 3 (3) Feel 1325
 4 (4) Invader 67 1305
 5 (5) AFCDAVE 1215

There is a full set of games this week, but don’t forget that four teams don’t play next week because of the Carabao Cup Final.

Saturday February 22

Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur

12.30pm GMT, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea lost 2-0 at home to United last week and they now only have one point to spare over the teams chasing them for fourth place. They have lost four of their last seven home games and they failed to score in each of those defeats. They haven’t won in four games and they conceded seven goals in those games.

The way Chelsea are playing at the moment it’s hard to see any of their players to recommend to fantasy managers.

Spurs won 3-2 away to Villa last week to move to fifth place within a point of Chelsea. They have only won three of their 13 away games with only five other teams conceding more goals away from home. They have scored seven goals in winning their last three games, but they have a tough run of games over the next few weeks.

With both Harry Kane and Heung-min Son injured the Spurs players to interest fantasy managers could be Lucas Moura and Dele Alli.

I think this will be a very close game with the winner moving into fourth place and the points will more than likely be shared.

Prediction: 2-2

Burnley v Bournemouth

3pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley won 2-1 away to Southampton last week and they’re only in the bottom half of the table on goal difference. They have won as many games as they have lost at home, but they seem to have hit some form in recent weeks. They have taken 10 points and only conceded two goals in their last four games against some of the better teams in the league.

Dwight McNeil looks like he could do well for fantasy managers at the moment while Nick Pope is still well worth having too.

Bournemouth lost 2-1 away to Sheffield United last week and they’re only two points above the relegation zone. They have lost seven of their last eight away games with no other team losing more away games and they have failed to score in six of their last 10 games on the road. They have lost 11 of their last 15 games and half of their remaining 12 games are against teams currently in the top seven.

I’m not sure Bournemouth have turned the corner yet and it might be best for fantasy managers to avoid their players.

I think recent form suggests Burnley should win this game by a couple of goals.

Prediction: 2-0

Crystal Palace v Newcastle United

3pm GMT, Selhurst Park, London

Palace lost 3-1 away to Everton last week, but they’re still six points clear of the bottom three. They have only taken one point and scored one goal in their last three home games and no other team has scored less goals at home. They haven’t won in seven games and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 10 with no other team scoring less goals.

Palace players have done very little to impress for fantasy managers recently, but their defenders and keeper could possibly do well in this game.

Newcastle lost 4-0 away to Arsenal last week, but they still have seven points to spare over the bottom three. They have only taken two points from their last five away games and they conceded 12 goals in those games with no other team conceding more goals on their travels. They have only won once in their last eight games and they failed to score in their last two games with only Palace scoring less goals.

I can’t see any Newcastle players to recommend to fantasy managers when they play away from home.

I think this will be a very close game with few chances and a draw is probably the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1-1

Sheffield United v Brighton And Hove Albion

3pm GMT, Bramall Lane, Sheffield

United won 2-1 at home to Bournemouth last week and they’re now only two points off a Champions League place. They have taken 10 points from their last five home games and only Liverpool have conceded less goals at home, but only four other teams have scored less. They have taken 10 points from their last five games with only Liverpool conceding less goals and their next three games are all against teams in the lower reaches of the league.

United’s defenders and keeper all offer very good value to fantasy managers while John Fleck is an option to consider too.

Brighton drew 1-1 at home to Watford last week to stay three points above the bottom three. They have only taken two points from their last five away games with only Norwich and Villa taking less points away from home. They have only won once in their last 11 games, but no other team in the bottom half of the table has drawn more games.

I still can’t see any Brighton players who might make a difference for fantasy managers.

I think United should take the three points in this game and probably keep a clean sheet too.

Prediction: 2-0

Southampton v Aston Villa

3pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

Southampton lost 2-1 at home to Burnley last week, but they’re still only three points off the top half of the table. They have only won once in their last five home games and no other team has taken less points or conceded more goals at home. They have lost three of their last four games after winning four of the previous five with only Villa conceding more goals.

Danny Ings remains the outstanding Southampton player for fantasy managers with James Ward-Prowse worth considering too.

Villa lost 3-2 at home to Spurs last week and they’re still only one point above the relegation zone. No other team has lost more games away from home and only Newcastle have conceded more goals on their travels. They have only won once in their last five games and they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 13 with no other team conceding more goals.

Jack Grealish has had a great season so far for Villa and fantasy managers too and he’s certainly worth considering.

I think this will be another very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end all square.

Prediction: 1-1

Leicester v Manchester City

5.30pm GMT, King Power Stadium, Leicester

Leicester drew 0-0 away to Wolves last week and they’re now four points behind second placed City ahead of this game. They have only won once in their last five home games, but only Liverpool and City have taken more points at home. They have only won three of their last 10 games and they conceded 16 goals in those games after only conceding 10 in their first 16 games.

Jamie Vardy has gone off the boil recently for fantasy managers, but Harvey Barnes and Ayoze Perez have done quite well.

City won 2-0 at home to West Ham last week, but they’re still 22 points behind Liverpool at the top of the table with only 12 games left to play. Only Liverpool have taken more points away from home and no other team has scored more goals on the road. They have taken 16 points from their last seven games, but nothing they can do is enough to close the gap on Liverpool.

Both Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero are the City players most likely to play and they usually do very well when they do play.

Leicester won’t make it easy for City, but I think the points will just about go to the away team.

Prediction: 1-2

Sunday February 23

Manchester United v Watford

2pm GMT, Old Trafford, Manchester

United won 2-0 away to Chelsea last week and they’re now only three points adrift of the Champions League places. They have only taken one point and scored no goals in their last two home games, but only Liverpool have conceded less goals at home. They have lost three of their last six games, but they kept clean sheets in three of those six games too.

United’s defenders and keeper have done well in recent weeks and could be worth considering for fantasy managers while new boy Bruno Fernandes isn’t looking too bad either.

Watford drew 1-1 away to Brighton last week, but it wasn’t enough to lift them out of the bottom three. They have only won two of their 13 away games and their recent improvement has been mainly down to their home results. They haven’t won in four games with only Newcastle scoring less goals and they have a tough run of games coming up which could see them needing a very strong finish to the season to avoid the drop.

Abdoulaye Doucoure, Troy Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu have all done fairly well for fantasy managers in recent weeks.

I think Watford will make a game of it, but United will get the win.

Prediction: 2-1

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Norwich City

2pm GMT, Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton

Wolves drew 0-0 at home to Leicester last week to drop back to eighth place, but they’re only five points off the top four. They haven’t won in their last three games and no other team has drawn more games at home. They have only won once in their last seven games, but almost all of their next six games give them an opportunity to make up ground on the teams ahead of them.

Raul Jiminez and Adama Traore are still the best options for fantasy managers in the Wolves team, but their defenders and keeper are worth keeping an eye on too given their upcoming fixtures.

Norwich lost 1-0 at home to Liverpool last week and they’re now six points adrift at the foot of the table with only 12 games to play. They haven’t won in their last six away games and no other team has taken less points or scored less goals away from home. They have only won once in their last 13 games and only Palace have scored less goals.

I can’t see any Norwich players to recommend to fantasy managers when they play away from home in particular.

I think Wolves should win this game with at least a couple of goals to spare.

Prediction: 2-0

Arsenal v Everton

4.30pm Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal won 4-0 at home to Newcastle last week to stay in tenth place, but they closed the gap on fourth place to seven points. They have taken seven points from their last three home games after failing to win the previous six. They are unbeaten in six games, but they drew four of them and they kept clean sheets in three of those games.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still the Arsenal player to have for fantasy managers, but recent results and their upcoming fixtures might make some of their defenders attractive too.

Everton won 3-1 at home to Palace last week and like so many other teams they are within touching distance of the top four. They have taken eight points from their last five away games after only taking four points from the previous eight, but only Newcastle and Villa have scored more goals on the road. They have only lost one of their last 11 games, but no other team in the top half of the table has conceded more goals.

Dominic Calvert-Lewis and Richarlison are the Everton players making an impression for fantasy managers at the moment.

I think this will be a very close game with Arsenal just about getting the better of Everton.

Prediction: 2-1

Monday February 24

Liverpool v West Ham United

8pm GMT, Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool won 1-0 away to Norwich last week to go 22 points clear at the top of the table with only 12 games left to play. They have won all of their home games and they have scored more and conceded less goals at home than any other team. They have only conceded one goal in their last 11 games and it’s just a matter of time until they win the league.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are the outstanding Liverpool players for fantasy managers with all of their defenders and keeper excellent choices too while Jordan Henderson has impressed in recent weeks.

West Ham lost 2-0 away to City last week and they’re still in the relegation zone. They have lost their last four away games and they go to Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs in their next three away games. They haven’t won in six games and four of their next six games are against “big six” teams.

I can’t see any West Ham players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Liverpool victory in this game.

Prediction: 4-0

That’s it for this week.

See you next week.
