Saturday December 28
Brighton And Hove Albion v Bournemouth
12.30pm GMT, AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Brighton lost 2-1 away to Spurs on Thursday and they’re only two points above the relegation zone. They have only won three of their nine home games and they have only taken one point from their last three games on their own patch. They have lost five of their last eight games, but their fixtures get a little easier after their next game.
Brighton players haven’t really set the world alight for fantasy managers recently.
Bournemouth drew 1-1 at home to Arsenal on Thursday and they’re only two points above the bottom three too. They have taken as many points away from home as they have at home. They have lost six of their last eight games, but they don’t play any of the big six in their next eight games.
I can’t see any Bournemouth players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
I think this will be a close game with Brighton probably taking the three points.
Prediction: 2-1
Newcastle United v Everton
3pm GMT, St. James’s Park, Newcastle
Newcastle lost 4-1 away to United on Thursday after going 1-0 up and they’re still in the top half of the table. They have only lost one of their nine home games, but no other team has conceded less goals at home and only two other teams have scored less. They have won five of their last 10 games, but they have to play two of the top four in their next four games.
If he’s back in the side Jonjo Shelvey has done well for fantasy managers and could be worth considering.
Everton won 1-0 at home to Burnley on Thursday to move four points clear of the relegation zone. Only five other teams have taken more points at home and they have kept clean sheets in their last two home games. They have taken eight points from their last four games and they have a fairly good run of fixtures in their next seven games.
Everton defenders could be back on the menu for fantasy managers with Lucas Digne probably the pick of them.
I think this will be another very close game with a draw the most likely outcome.
Prediction: 1-1
Southampton v Crystal Palace
3pm GMT, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton
Southampton won 2-0 away to Chelsea on Thursday to move three points above the bottom three. No other team has taken less points at home, but they have won two of their last three games on their own patch. They have won four of their last six games, but only Norwich have conceded more goals.
Danny Ings was rested for most of the game against Chelsea, but he has done really well for fantasy managers this season and James Ward-Prowse is worth considering too.
Palace won 2-1 at home to West Ham on Thursday to stay in the top half of the table. They have failed to score in three of their last four away games with only Norwich and Watford scoring less goals on the road. They have taken 11 points from their last six games and they have only conceded three goals in those games.
Palace’s defenders and keeper are always worth looking at for fantasy managers.
It’s not easy to predict how this game will go, but the chances are the spoils will be shared.
Prediction: 1-1
Watford v Aston Villa
3pm GMT, Vicarage Road, Watford
Watford drew 1-1 away to Sheffield United on Thursday to move off the foot of the table, but they’re still six points from safety. No other team has taken less points or scored less goals at home, but they have kept clean sheets in their last two home games. They have only lost one of their last four games, but no other team has won less games or scored less goals.
I can’t see any Watford players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
Villa won 1-0 at home to Norwich on Thursday, but it wasn’t enough to move them out of the relegation zone. No other team has lost more games or taken less points away from home and they have lost four of their last five on the road. They had lost four games in a row before beating Norwich and they really need to get something from this game.
Jack Grealish continues to impress for fantasy managers and he’s still available at a pretty good price.
I think this will be a close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Villa win.
Prediction: 1-2
Norwich City v Tottenham Hotspur
5.30pm GMT, Carrow Road, Norwich
Norwich lost 1-0 away to Villa on Thursday to drop to the foot of the table. No other team has taken less points at home and they have only taken one point from the last six home games. They haven’t won in six games and no other team has conceded more goals.
Todd Cantwell is probably the only Norwich player to interest fantasy managers at the moment.
Spurs came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Brighton on Thursday and they’re only three points off the top four. They have only won two of their nine away games, but those wins were both in their last three away games. They have won five of their last seven games and they scored 16 goals in those games.
Dele Alli, Lucas Moura, Harry Kane and Serge Aurier have all done well recently for fantasy managers.
I think Spurs should have enough to take the three points in this game, but only just.
Prediction: 1-2
West Ham United v Leicester City
5.30pm GMT, London Stadium, London
West Ham lost 2-1 away to Palace on Thursday and they’re now only one point above the relegation zone. No other team has taken less points at home and they have lost four of their last five home games. They have lost six of their last eight games and they have a tough run of games coming up.
I can’t see any West Ham players to recommend to fantasy managers at the moment.
Leicester lost 4-0 at home to Liverpool on Thursday and they’re now 13 points behind them, but they’re still in second place. Only three other teams have taken more points away from home with only City scoring more goals on the road. They have only taken one point from their last three games, but their fixtures get a lot for the next five games.
Jamie Vardy, James Maddison and all of Leicester’s defenders and keeper are back on the menu for fantasy managers now that they have their tough run of fixtures out of the way.
I think Leicester should be able to bounce back and take the three points in this game with a couple of goals to spare.
Prediction: 1-3
Burnley v Manchester United
7.45pm GMT, Turf Moor, Burnley
Burnley lost 1-0 away to Everton on Thursday and they’re just off the top half of the table. They have won five of their nine home games and they kept clean sheets in each of those victories too. They won two of their last three games and kept clean sheets in both of those wins, but they have a very tough run of games coming up.
Nick Pope has probably been the most consistent of the Burnley players for fantasy managers with Chris Wood worth a shout too.
United won 4-1 at home to Newcastle on Thursday and they’re only four points off the top four. They have only won two of their nine away games and they travel to both Arsenal and Liverpool in the next few weeks. They have only lost one of their last eight games, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 14 games.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are probably the best bets in the United team for fantasy managers while Mason Greenwood is a possibility too.
I think this will be a very close game and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end all square.
Prediction: 1-1
Sunday December 29
Arsenal v Chelsea
2pm GMT, Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal came from behind to draw 1-1 away to Bournemouth on Thursday, but they’re still in the bottom half of the table. They have only won three of their nine home games and haven’t won in five games on their own ground. They have only won once in their last 11 games and they have some very tough games on the horizon.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains the only Arsenal player for fantasy managers to even consider.
Chelsea lost 2-0 at home to Southampton on Thursday and they now only have two points to spare over fifth place. Only Liverpool and City have taken more points away from home with only City scoring more goals on the road. They have lost five of their last seven games and they will struggle to hold on to a top four place if that form continues.
Chelsea players have slipped a little recently for fantasy managers, but Willian could still be worth a shout.
This isn’t an easy game to predict, but I think Arsenal might just manage a narrow victory.
Prediction: 2-1
Liverpool v Wolverhampton Wanderers
4.30pm GMT, Anfield, Liverpool
Liverpool won 4-0 away to Leicester on Thursday to move to move 13 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand too. They have won all of their home games and no other team has scored more goals at home. They have won 17 and drawn one of their 18 games and a first league title in 30 years seems a foregone conclusion.
Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are both great choices for fantasy managers while all of Liverpool’s defenders are worth considering too.
Wolves came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at home to City on Friday night and they’re only two points behind fourth placed Chelsea. They have only lost one of their nine away games, but only Sheffield United have drawn more games on the road. They have only lost once in their last 14 games and they haven’t failed to score in their last 18 games.
Raul Jiminez, Matt Doherty and Armand Traore are all doing very well for fantasy managers and they should have at least one of them in their team.
I think Wolves will give Liverpool a run for their money, but Liverpool will win narrowly.
Prediction: 2-1
Manchester City v Sheffield United
6pm GMT, Etihad Stadium, Manchester
City lost 3-2 away to Wolves on Friday night after leading 2-0 and they’re now 14 points behind Liverpool having played a game more than them. They have only won six of their nine home games which is unusual for them and only Liverpool have scored more goals at home with only Newcastle conceding less.
Kevin de Bruyne is still a great choice for fantasy managers while Raheem Sterling looks like he might be back in form too.
United drew 1-1 at home to Watford on Thursday and they’re only three points off the top four. They are unbeaten away from home, but they have drawn six of their nine games and only Liverpool have conceded less goals on their travels. They have only lost once in their last 12 games and only Liverpool have conceded less goals.
All of United’s defenders and keeper have done really well for fantasy managers with John Lundstram the pick of them.
I think City should be too good at home and take the three points with a few goals to spare.
Prediction: 3-0
That’s it for this week.
See you next week.
